12 best vox distortion pedals

Vox distortion pedals are a popular type of effect used by electric guitarists to modify the sound of their instruments. Vox is a well-known brand in the musical instrument industry, particularly famous for its amplifiers and effects pedals.

Distortion pedals, including those made by Vox, alter the sound of an electric guitar by adding gain and overdrive, creating a gritty, distorted tone. This effect is achieved by amplifying the signal to a point where it exceeds the normal limits, resulting in clipping and a characteristic "crunchy" or "fuzzy" sound.

Vox distortion pedals are favored for their unique tonal qualities and are often sought after by guitarists looking to achieve classic rock or blues tones. These pedals typically offer controls for adjusting the amount of gain, tone shaping (bass, mid, treble), and sometimes additional features like a built-in EQ or different clipping options.

Users can experiment with the settings on a Vox distortion pedal to achieve a wide range of distorted sounds, from a mild overdrive to a heavy, saturated distortion, making it a versatile tool for guitarists seeking various tonal options.

It's important for guitarists to try out different distortion pedals, including those from Vox, to find the one that best suits their playing style and preferences.

Below you can find our editor's choice of the best vox distortion pedals on the market

User questions & answers

Question: Can the ac tone pedal bring some upper end sparkle to an otherwise flat lifeless katana amp
Answer: Probably not. They appear to be a porous foam.
Question: Can it use ac power or only battery
Answer: This is only 3/4 length so it does not cover the ball of the foot.
Question: I dont suppose this would be very useful with a vox ac15hwtv 50th anniversary handwired? i mean, it already has the vox sound, what might this add
Answer: Likely not. These are not very firm, they are very thin and foam like. Also, you can't ever really "develop" an arch from flat feet on inserts alone, if it is painful, surgery may be needed. Since he is so young, now might be the best time to go to a podiatrist and get their opinion. I had the same issue when I was younger.

User questions & answers

Question: I know it’s a matter of opinion but where would the best place for this pedal in the signal chain? Along with delay, distortion, tremolo, etc
Answer: I own a Katana amp and I also have this Joyo AC tone pedal. I do not use them together but I like them both for what they are. The AC Tone works fantastic as a DI or on my board with a pedal sized amp. Explore the configuration inside the Katana... brightening up the sound can be done with the available EQ and Boss Tone Studio software.
Question: What are the different "Voice" settings on this sim pedal
Answer: Any 9-volt DC power supply with a negative center will power it. This is the most common type of power and connector type in the pedal market. It's also possible to use batteries, though with frequent use it's likely the battery will not last very long.
Question: Is it a pedal or amplifier? Can it drive a cab
Answer: Hello customer, this is the pedal that simulate the Vox AMP, so if you already have VOX amp, there is no need to have this pedal, welcome to our store AITONE for other cool JOYO pedals, we are the official store of JOYO and have the latest products of JOYO, welcome to visit.
Question: How reliable are these things? Do they last
Answer: My guess would be Medium. I bought that size to fit a size 9.

User questions & answers

Question: Could I plug this into my computer and use audacity to record
Answer: If you have a recording interface, you should be able to just plug from the quarter inch out on the Joyo to the quarter inch in on the interface. If you are using the computers 3.5 millimeter input, just make sure you do trial run or two to set the Joyo's Level control so that it doesn't distort the pc input. You may also need adapters or cables to fit the actone and pc jacks in order use them together.
Question: Can you bypass the cabinet simulator? is there a switch for that? (in case i want to use it with a guitar amp instead of direct to pa
Answer: Oh yeah, for bypassing the simulator you press on the switch and it turns the pedal off/on. you can use this as a preamp or a drive to get the AC flavour. The pedal itself isn't a cab simulator but more so copies the AC variety like a Drive pedal. The voice knob is the control for shaping the sound of the amp styles (inside the pedal) (I personally enjoy having the voice at 10o'clock.) I think this will do fine going into your chain and out to an amplifier. Hope this helps!
Question: I was wondering how much signal gain/boost this pedal is capable of? Looking to get an instrument level close to line level to feed a headphone amp. TIA
Answer: I'm not sure on a technical level how much signal boost this pedal can provide, and I've seen nothing online either, but I've used it straight into a PA without a guitar amp (it's an amp simulator so that sounds pretty good) and it had more than enough signal to work with.
Question: hi...is this good for bass
Answer: Ran bass through it straight into the PA. Turned effects off and it sounded really good. Used for worship. Typically play guitar and have several pedals on my board with this the last pedal on board. Bypassed all pedals for bass. Ran bass into the input and out to the PA.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you run a bass through this board? Already have it, and I only will play bass for a gig
Answer: You're absolutely correct, it's a matter of opinion. For me, this is my amp (I use it for playing with headphones with other pedals) and it is the foundation of my tone, so I place it first, then add tremolo, delay, reverb after it. Sort of like an effects loop in a real amp. Sounds great to me, and I love the responsive EQ for adapting to different guitars and pickups! My logic is, you dial in a sweet tone with this pedal, and everything after it sounds good. But people place entire pedalboards before their amp inputs, so there will be other opinions.
Question: Will this work on a line 6 amplifier
Answer: It provides a huge pallet of sounds: from great cleans into breakup tones. It is very flexible and just by itself>mixer provides a sufficient and low-noise sound.
Question: Does this pedal have a built in guitar tuner
Answer: This a pedal. It will NOT drive a cab. It simulates the sound of a VOX AC30 amplifier.
Question: Is this a "Stereo" Pedal. w/ Ping Pong type delay
Answer: They seem very solid. Jacks are very firm, switch is sturdy, knobs have a nice feel with slight resistance. Nothing loose or flimsy feeling. I have the AC Tone and the American Sound, but I use them in a home studio, so they aren't on the road getting stomped on every night. I do think the sound and build quality are amazing for the price. If it breaks... you could buy 5 of these for the price of a pedal from a US company. These are my opinions, I'd still ask someone who's abused them if you plan to.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the usb port mean it has interface capabilities (can i record with it without an audio interface to pc
Answer: The PC recognizes the USB connection as a MIDI interface, which can be used to switch between patches.
Question: Can you delete only the previous loop that you recorded instead of the whole loop
Answer: No you can not delete part of a loop. In some other loopers you can undo one or more previous loops, but with the G1on you can not. When you delete a loop that was made on top of a a rhythm loop all the loops get deleted. It kind of sucks! This is about the only fault I can find w/ the G1on.
Question: I just bought a digitech-360 and found out i can't use the looper with the drum machine.. can you use the drums with the looper on this unit
Answer: Yes you can select a drum pattern and start playing it, then switch to looper mode and record while playing to the drum sounds. The drum sounds don't get recorded though, but you can play to the beat unlike the digitech 360.
Question: whats the difference between this and spending hundreds on different pedals
Answer: Lol! A lot, and not that much. This makes for an excellent practice pedal/tone lab. It's perfect for trying out different sounds and pedal combos and learning about basic signal path for FX. Some people even gig with this unit, though the G3X and G5X are considered more "Pro. Grade" though they have basically the same FX engine. Picking, buying, and building your own custom boutique pedal board is also rewarding and can provide some more unique and better quality FX... But you can literally spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Plus you'll need to try out the different pedals and build out a board. But individual pedals does give you flexibility DURING a performance. Note that the G1Xon has only two stomps and a wah. (Look at the manual, it's more complicated than that.) But basically (tl:dr) if you already know what sounds you want and you're a professional, spend hundreds on different pedals. If you want to experiment with different tone/FX and are primarily rehearsing and doing house of worship & coffee houses, buy the G1Xon.
