User questions & answers
Question: | Does it pick up paper clips |
Answer: | no, YOU pick up the paper clips..vacuums are not made for picking up paper clips.. |
Question: | How do you clean the filter |
Answer: | There is a HEPA filter in front of the vacuum, you lift the door from the bottom and you can take it out and wash it. and then you lift the canister out from the base ( like you're emptying the canister of dirt.) You will find 2 foam filters there. lift them both out and wash those too. Just dont throw in washing machine or dishwasher. I use dish detergent and wash them off in the sink. Just make sure they are completely dry before putting them back on the vacuum. After a dozen or so washings they will break down ( you will know this ) extra filters can be purchased on EBay or Amazon or other websites. I usually clean the foam filters when they are a very dark brown or gray color, then i also wash the HEPA filter also. Good luck! Here a PDF file that tells you all about the shark vacuum .Page 13 & 14 tell you how to clean the filters . http://prcind.com/user_manuals/NV351-FS.pdf |
Question: | What is the difference between Shark NV 352 and the NV |
Answer: | The 352 has a 25 foot cord, the 356 (professional) is 30', the hard floor tools are different. The 356 has a microfiber 'dust pad' that goes over the hardwood floor attachment. The 352's hard floor attachment has a 'V' shape to funnel debris no pad, but it does have a duster attachment both available to purchase separately. The dust cup on the 356 is larger and the overall machine is 2 lbs heavier then the 352. 356 also comes with a bag for the tools where my 352 did not. The other tools all appear to be the same on both models. They both run the same amps and can be converted into canister mode as well, but are aesthetically different. |
Question: | Why is the little rectangle on the side sucking in so much air and causing it not to work |
Answer: | I can answer that question specifically because it happened to me and caused me to give this vacuum an erroneously poor review. My shark lasted for just under four years and was amazing. THEN it started sucking air like crazy though that rectangle and suction dropped by 80%. I did everything to fix it ... cleaned all the filters, checked all the hoses ... nothing fixed it. I was about to put it to the curb for the garbage man when something told me to check it out one last time. Well to make a long story short ... if you open your dust canister, there is a conical thing in the middle with mesh screen sides. That mesh was clogged with dust/dirt. On a hunch I cleaned it with a toothbrush (extremely difficult and awkward job) and guess what? The suction is back 100% and my Shark is back like when it brand was new. NOTE WELL. NOWHERE in the manual does it suggest that this area should be cleaned. I hope this answer is not too late for you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this and the SteamVac also by Hoover |
Answer: | I have been comparing them to decide which one I want, this one (hoover Power Scrub) has automatic mixing of the detergent solution and the water, so you can choose a water only (rinse) or water with cleaning solution. The SteamVac, you must mix the solution in the water tank, so in order to rinse you would have to completely empty out the clean tank and then add just water. The power scrub only turns off the scrub brushes when the handle is in the upright and locked position. The scrub brushes on the SteamVac can be adjusted for gentle, normal, and off. They both use heated air on the dry (suction) strokes to help with drying. It looks like the SteamVac might be a little cheaper but then it doesn't come with all the attachments the power Scrub does. In fact it is a little vague on which attachments come with it. I checked the owners manual for both of these for this information. The Power Scrub is about 2 pounds lighter than the SteamVac. The assembly of the SteamVac seems a lot more involved. I think I am about sold on the Hoover Power Scrb Deluxe carpet cleaner. |
Question: | can the brushes be shut off |
Answer: | There is a rubber flap on the back of the dirty water tank. If you open that, it breaks the airflow that drives the brushes. It won't pick up liquid while the flap is open though, so I spray and scrub with it open, then seal the flap to extract liquid. I'm not sure if that is the purpose of the flap, but it works. |
Question: | Do i have to rinse after i shampoo? seems like an annoying extra step. never had a carpet cleaner that did that |
Answer: | If you think of shampooing your carpet like shampooing your hair, it makes sense to rinse. Adding shampoo to you hair and then stepping out of the shower might make your hair clean, but it's not going to be soft. Long ago (LONG ago) when I shampoo'd carpets as part of my job, we were taught to think of it as hair: (a) Lay down a bit of water first; (b) apply shampoo; (c) rinse it out. If the carpeted area was heavy traffic, do just like the shampoo bottle says -- apply a second bit of shampoo, work it in, and then rinse it out. Over the years I've ALWAYS done that when cleaning my own 2500 sq feet of WHITE carpet in my house, and it always comes out fluffy, soft, and white. Even with several black dogs. |
Question: | Would you recommend for pet owners? I have 4 pets and wonder if the pieces are easy enough to take apart to remove hair that will surely accumulate |
Answer: | This was my first scrubber for carpets. I broke my ankle soon after I got it, so I only got to use it 3 times. I thought it did a good job on open areas. I did not like how it did close to the edges of the carpet where it meets the wall. I used it on steps and it did fine. One thing I remember is hold the dirty water container tightly when you go to empty it or the dirty water can spill out all over your work that you've done. Once you have figured out how to assemble and take apart, it is fairly easy then. I liked the fact that it gets the water up fairly well. For the money, I am happy with it, I have two cats. Must mention it takes some strength to work on steps and edges, as I used a large toothbrush. But the latter doesn't have anything to do with the animals, I was just giving you my opin of the machine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the pet multi-tool and the deep-cleaning motorized pet tool |
Answer: | Hello Kathleen, We're happy to help with your inquiry. The Pet Multi-Tool is two cleaning tools in one. The stiff bristle brush removes stuck-on debris from a multitude of surfaces. You can detach the bristles to reveal an upholstery tool for cleaning stubborn pet hair. The Deep-Cleaning Motorized Pet Tool is powered by a motor. The motorized brush removes pet hair and embedded dirt from stairs, upholstery, tabletops, bookshelves, car interiors, and more. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | How does this (az1002) differ from model az1000w? thanks |
Answer: | Hello JJ, We are happy to assist you with your inquiry. The Shark® APEX® Upright Vacuum AZ1002 and the AZ1000W are the same vacuum. The difference is the attachments and where they are available for purchase. The AZ1000W includes the 12" Crevice Tool and Pet Multi-Tool. The AZ1002 includes the 12" Crevice Tool, Pet Multi-Tool, and Deep-Cleaning Motorized Pet Tool. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | what accessories are included |
Answer: | a review posted on July 20, 2019 states "the Motorized Pet Cleaning accessory was not included as advertised, although it was listed in the documentation that came with the vacuum. I called Shark Customer Support and was told it is no longer shipped with the vacuum, but can bought for an additional charge. In its place a hard floor accessory was provided that DOES NOT EVEN attach to vacuum." So the response by the manufacturer should be updated to reflect the Deep-Cleaning Motorized Pet Tool no longer comes with the Shark vacuum. |
Question: | How effective is this at picking up long human hair? Thanks |
Answer: | Quite effective. Golden retriever and a girlfriend who both leave hair EVERYWHERE. We have hardwood and area rugs, and a carpeted bonus/makeup room. Our other shark w/o zero-m technology would have hair wrapped in about 2 seconds of using it. Just got a zero-m shark (duoclean uv700) and I vacuumed the entire place after a week of no vacuuming and 0 hair was wrapped around either rollers. I would recommend letting the rollers spin for a few seconds after finishing vacuuming to help release any hair that may have gotten wrapped (this is what I did). 12/10 recommend the duoclean/zero-m shark vacuums. I suspect that everyone who claims they have hair wrap do not let the rollers spin for a few seconds after they’re done. Hope this helps as I was wary of reviews claiming it didn’t work as advertised. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Because of the great suction has anyone noticed that their medium to high pile carpets are getting worn or fuzzy |
Answer: | This vacuum works on all types of flooring: laminate, tile, wood, marble, travertine, etc. I have never had a problem with it scratching. |
Question: | Can the brush roll be turned off |
Answer: | I ordered the $24.99 blue version. I honestly can not say why there's a price difference between the 3 models offered as they, to me, appear to be the same in all respects but color when I study their photos (noticing that the listed attributes do not change at all between models). I can say that I am so very pleased with my $24.99 / blue vacuum because it does exactly what I bought it for (tiled floors &low pile throw rugs) and taking advantage of the hand-held changeability is huge (***** great at sussing "stuff" out of cracks between stove & cabinetry, and snatching creepy-crawlies off the ceiling) |
Question: | How a about pet hair |
Answer: | It looks like it should stand up to a number of gentle light cleaning/brush-offs and several washes, but it would be convenient to have at least one spare, so I can use that while the other one is drying. Be careful, there are a number of Bissell featherweight vacuums, and they take different filters. Bissell part number 1611508 is hard to find, but with the part number in hand, I found my local vacuum repair shop was able to order it ($4.99, no s&h), and I was able to order it from Bissell.com ($3.75 +$5.95 s&h) and partswarehouse.com ($4.99 & $5.98 S&h) |
Question: | What is the difference between the "standard brush roll" and the "gentle brush roll" on this model? I have tile, carpet, & wood floors |
Answer: | No, there is no roller brush. It just has an opening for suction. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What tools come with this vacuum |
Answer: | Hello Muzzy, We would like to inform you that the Shark® Navigator® Upright Vacuum with Lift-Away, Zero-M™ Anti-Hair Wrap Technology includes the Duster Crevice Tool, Hair Removal Multi-Tool, and the Wide Upholstery Tool. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | Do you need to push a button to go from carpet to hardwood |
Answer: | There is a switch, but this is misleading because the only difference btwn the hardwood and carpet setting is how fast the beater bar spins. SHark does not fully, accurately describe this in their product description but the beater bar cannot be turned off or raised to keep it from scratching hardwoods. Very frustrating, actually. |
Question: | What filters does the zu561 take |
Answer: | Hello ANDREW S., We would like to inform you that the Shark® Navigator® Upright Vacuum with Lift-Away and Zero-M™ Technology has a set of pre-motor filters and a HEPA filter. The pre-motor filters include a foam filter and a felt filter. The filters for this vacuum are washable by rinsing them under warm tap water until the water runs clear. We suggest to let the air dry for at least 24 hours before putting them back in the vacuum. If you would like to order an additional set, we ask that you reach out to Shark® Customer Care at 877-581-7375. Representatives are available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 9pm ET | Sat. 9am - 6pm ET. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | This model gets good reviews for keeping pet hair out of the beater brush. How about long human hair |
Answer: | Yes, Yes, Yes. Long haired wife, long haired dog, long haired cat. Vacuumed a rug that had more hair than fiber. Brush was clean as a whistle. I was hoping new hair-clipping rotor would work half-way, it worked the whole way. My old Shark roller would have been a solid hairball after the two rugs i vacuumed the other day. The new guy was clean... and so were the rugs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the Shark Steam pocket mop clean grout from wear and tear on my ceramic tile floors |
Answer: | I don't see that Bissell has a model #1906 but there is a 1806 so I will assume you are referring to it. I had the original blue 1940 model for 3.5 years before it stopped working due to a bad thermal fuse. Since it was no longer covered by the 2 year manufacturer's warranty through Bissell, my husband was able to fix it by replacing the fuse but in the meantime, while he was ordering the correct fuse, I replaced it with the Bissell purple pet #19404, only because it was $10 cheaper than the blue #1940 at the time. The purple #19404 is the EXACT same mop as the blue #1940 but the blue #1940 comes with one scent of fragrance discs (Spring Breeze) and the purple #19404 comes with "Odor Eliminating" discs for people with pets. Here are some of the differences I see between the 1806 and the 1940 (and the purple pet #19404): Power cord length: 1940 (and purple pet 19404) = 23 feet. The cord on the1806 =25 feet Water tank: 1940 (and purple pet 19404) = holds 15 oz. and is removable to fill (and empty) at the sink. 1806 holds 19 oz. and is built into the mop. Must be filled using the provided water cup and I guess you have to turn the mop upside down over the sink if you need to empty the water tank. The 1940 (and purple pet 19404) has 3 steam levels (High, Medium and Low) whereas the 1806 only has 2. Fragrance discs: 1940 (and purple pet 19404) = discs fit into a mesh pocket on the inside of the mop pad. 1806 = discs can either go into the mesh pocket on the inside of the mop pad or into a tray located on the top of the mop foot. Probably the biggest difference is the "spot boost brush" on the 1806. The 1940 (and purple pet 19404) = have a flip down brush on the back of the mop. 1806 = has a removable "wand" with the brush on the end. (You can search the Bissell 1806 on YouTube and see it demonstrated in one of Bissell's videos. Bissell may also have a demo video on their official website if you look on the product page for the 1806.) I rarely ever use the flip-down scrub brush on my 1940 (or 19404) models since I don't usually have anything on my floors that needs scrubbing (no kids or grandkids in the house leaving sticky messes) so I don't find the removable wand with the spot boost brush appealing or necessary for my needs. I'd rather have the removable water tank the 1940 (and purple pet 19404) offers for the benefit of easy filling and emptying. I've had my 1940 for almost 7 years (and the 19404 probably 3.5 years) and I LOVE them. I would not hesitate to buy another one whenever these finally die. |
Question: | are the cleaning pads reuasable/washable |
Answer: | I like to have the bonus of a cleaner as well. The easy work-around is to lightly spray the area to be cleaned with a diluted spray cleaner formula of your choice. Then the steam action helps the cleaner to work. Only use a touch of cleaner as the heat will mean more fumes in the area and that would be dangerous in excess. Understand too that cleaners are far too concentrated to begin with. I always cut mine with water and get 2 bottles for the price of one. |
Question: | i have arthritis in my fingers....is the "trigger" hard to pull? Do you have to hold the trigger? Is this hard for someone 80 years old to use |
Answer: | A "weak spot" for many laminates that involve click-lock or tongue-and-groove wooden boards is the seams where these boards meet. Unless you have something like a Pergo floor in which you glued the seams after laying each row, the steam may penetrate and cause swelling of the wood below the "fake wood" surface. Flooring installers call this type of swelling/warpage "cupping" and a user introducing this kind of moisture would void the warranties I've read. (Disclaimer: DIY person who has installed several brands of flooring.) |
Question: | Can the steam mop clean ground in dirt out of the tile grout |
Answer: | If you mean after multiple cycles in the washing machine, the pads don't look brand new anymore. I do bleach them in the wash, but to the mops credit, it picks up so much filth they can look a little grey. But they ARE clean. If you're asking how long they last during a cleaning... I mop a large area like the kitchen, then I pick it up and peek under the mop to see how much I've picked up. If it's COVERED in dirt I change it, if I can still see the white of the pad I keep going. Hope that helped! |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am wanting a powerful handheld for the garage & shop. Will this work for sawdust and other debris |
Answer: | I wouldn't recommend it for a garage/shop vac. Only because you probably want something that can deal with misc. wood, steel, etc. This is better suited for household use..ie dust, sand, hair, etc. |
Question: | Could this be used to suction out debris in clothes drier |
Answer: | I don't see why it couldn't be used to remove lint from a dryer. We use ours every few months to clean ours without any issues. |
Question: | How loud is it?, It also looks cumbersome. My old Shark was wonderful but it gave up the ghost so am looking for something comparable with a cord |
Answer: | I love it!!! I bought one for our RV and then got one for our home. I never paid much attention to the sound. I don't feel it is excessively loud. I don't think it's cumbersome. I would highly recommend it. |
Question: | How well does this clean carpeted stairs? This will by my main use |
Answer: | Mine does an excellent job. The brush attachment is powered, and picks up the dog's hair very well. I then use the crevice attachment to finish the edges where the carpet folds at the stair face. I have been very impressed with the vacuum. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this and the AZ1000W |
Answer: | Hello Amazon Customer, We are happy to assist you with your inquiry. There are a couple of main differences between the Shark Navigator® Zero-M® Self-Cleaning Brushroll Pet Pro (ZU62) Upright Vacuum and the Shark® APEX® Upright Vacuum with DuoClean® Zero-M® Powered Lift-Away®, AZ1000W. The first is that the AZ1000W has the DuoClean® Technology. This features a bristle brush to deep clean carpets and an additional soft brushroll to pull in larger particles and directly engage floors for a polished look. The other difference is that the AZ1000W is a Powered Lift-Away®. This allows you to remove the canister and still have power to the floor nozzle. Both vacuum have the Zero-M™ Anti-Hair Wrap Technology. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |
Question: | Does the fact that this has anti hair wrap still mean it sweeps just as well as regular kinds? The brush looks very different |
Answer: | Perhaps you will need to hear from someone who has had their vacuum longer, but I was amazed at the amount of dust and cat hair this vacuum picks up, both on hard floors and on carpets, which are different settings. On hard floors you can see the suction as the hair and dust move away from the wall into the vacuum. My old vacuum didn't do that. Vacuuming carpets stands the fibers up, and the carpet looks not only cleaner but newer. As advertised, the anti-hair wrap works, with a clean brush when I finish. Great performance so far. |
Question: | Does this have a brush roll on and off switch |
Answer: | There is a switch to go from hard floors to carpet, but the brush roll still spins- at two different speeds. Slower for hard floors. I do not see a way to turn off the brush roll. |
Question: | Whats the difference between nv752, nv251 and the zu |
Answer: | Hello JN, We are happy to assist you with your inquiry. The NV752 is from our Rotator® series. The NV251 and ZU62 are from our Navigator® series. the NV751 is a Powered Lift-Away®. This allows you to remove the main body of the unit from the vacuum and still have power to the brushroll. The Zu62 is equipped with the Zero-M® Technology. Zero-M® removes long hair, short hair, and pet hair from the brushroll. The unique bristle guard and comb work together to separate hair from the brushroll and send it straight to the dust cup. We also want to inform you that each of these vacuums include different accessories. The NV752 includes the Upholstery Tool, 11" Crevice Tool, and the TruePet® Mini Motorized Brush. The NV251 includes the Pet Multi-Tool and 5.5" Crevice Tool. The ZU62 includes the Duster Crevice Tool, Upholstery Tool, and the Dusting Brush. We hope this information helps. Helpful Shark |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the vacuum come with any attachments? It doesn't look like if from the picture here |
Answer: | Currently I have not used any accessories. I just use it as a floor vacuum, so I had to go looking for the accessories that came with it. I may not have found every single one that came with it, but I think I did, so the short answer: it comes with at least 5 attachments and a floor caddy. They are as follows: Dusting Brush (1185FC500), 12 inch Crevice Tool (X11FC500), Large Power Brush (X13FC500), Multi-Angle Dusting Brush (X15FC500), Straight Suction Floor Nozzle (XSN500), and finally the Canister Caddy (X16FC500). For more information (like what these parts actually look like as if you are like me you have no idea what the name of each part technically is) on these parts go to http://www.sharkclean.com/rotator/professional-lift-away-nv500/parts-and-accessories/. |
Question: | is it light weight |
Answer: | That's difficult to answer as it's all relative. It seems light to me, but it might not to you. It weighs in at about 1 lb more than the comparable Dyson, so some might say its heavy. I don't pick mine up a whole lot, so 1 lb isn't a deal breaker for me. It weighs about 15 lbs. Your call on if that's light or heavy. |
Question: | What about the filters? The infomercial never mentions them as far as need for cleaning, replacement, or ease of removing and cleaning |
Answer: | We don't have this model, but do have a similar (cheaper) Navigator Lift-away model that recommends cleaning the filter every 3 months. We use it to vacuum a small professional office and an 1800-square foot home once a week. I clean the filter in warm water every 1-2 weeks as the foam one, especially, gets very dirty/dusty. It doesn't take long, but they do have to dry before next use so I usually do it the night before I vacuum, absorb excess water on a towel-rag, then leave to dry overnight. I'd rather wash it than tap it out as another user suggested because the I don't want the dust to fly everywhere after I went to the trouble of vacuuming. The HEPA filter to be cleaned every 12 months takes a lot longer to dry (few days) but that's ok since we clean it so rarely. |
Question: | What is the difference between the navigator and the rotator |
Answer: | I own the Rotator but have no experience with the Navigator. Googling comparisons though the main difference seems to be that the Rotator can be turned into a canister vacuum where the Navigator can only be an upright vacuum. For a more extensive comparison here are a couple links to webpages I found useful in answering your question:http://socialcompare.com/en/comparison/shark-nav-vs-rotator-models-1fw7ntxohttp://www.sharkvacuums.net/compare-shark-nv350-vs-rotator-nv500/ |
