11 best water purifier pitchers
Water purifier pitchers, also known as pitcher water filters, are household devices designed to improve the quality of drinking water by removing impurities and contaminants. These pitchers are commonly used in kitchens and fall within the categories of kitchen dining and home kitchen appliances. Here is some information related to water purifier pitchers:
Filtration Process: Water purifier pitchers typically use a filtration process to remove impurities from tap water. This process often involves activated carbon filters, which can effectively capture and adsorb common contaminants like chlorine, sediment, and some heavy metals.
Contaminant Removal: Water purifier pitchers are effective at reducing or eliminating various contaminants, including chlorine, lead, mercury, copper, and certain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The specific contaminants removed depend on the pitcher's filter type and design.
Improved Taste and Odor: One of the primary benefits of using a water purifier pitcher is that it can significantly improve the taste and odor of tap water. By removing chlorine and other chemicals responsible for unpleasant tastes and smells, the filtered water tastes fresher and more appealing.
Ease of Use: Water purifier pitchers are user-friendly and require minimal setup. Users simply fill the pitcher with tap water, and the water passes through the filter as it's poured into a glass or container. This makes them a convenient choice for households.
Capacity: Pitcher sizes vary, but most have a capacity ranging from 6 to 10 cups (48 to 80 ounces) of water. The choice of capacity depends on individual needs and the number of people in the household.
Filter Replacement: The filters in water purifier pitchers have a limited lifespan and must be replaced periodically, usually every 1 to 2 months or after filtering a certain volume of water. Manufacturers provide guidelines on when to change the filters to maintain optimal filtration performance.
Cost-Effective: Compared to other home water purification systems like under-sink filters or whole-house systems, water purifier pitchers are typically more affordable upfront. However, ongoing costs related to filter replacements should be considered.
Portability: Water purifier pitchers are portable and can be easily moved around the kitchen or even taken on trips. They are an excellent choice for individuals or families who want filtered water while traveling.
Maintenance: Besides replacing filters, maintaining a water purifier pitcher is straightforward. Regular cleaning of the pitcher and lid helps prevent mold and bacteria growth.
Environmental Considerations: While water purifier pitchers are a sustainable choice compared to single-use bottled water, the disposable filters can generate waste. Some brands offer recycling programs for used filters to address this concern.
Water purifier pitchers offer a convenient and cost-effective way to enjoy cleaner and better-tasting tap water. They are an excellent option for households looking to enhance the quality of their drinking water without the need for complex installation or extensive maintenance.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Interesting question, back in the day antennas were how people got TV in their entire houses. Just like cable and satellite you have to connect the antenna to a splitter if you want to connect more than one TV. Or you can do like I did and get a Fire TV RECAST and connect that directly to the antenna and you have TV at every location on your Fire TV stick. You will need an AMPLIFIER to boost the signal to multiple TV’s also. |
Question: | Is the spout designed in such a way to prevent water from dripping or splashing all over the place? I would be using it around books & paperwork |
Answer: | No |
Question: | I cannot get the white part out. it is stuck and i'm afraid if i force it; it will break. is there any way to get it out |
Answer: | No. This receives free over-the-air local TV stations. I use mine when my AT&T cable service is down. I'm on the verge of dropping my cable TV service and just using streaming internet services plus this antenna and saving a lot of money. |
Question: | Has anyone tried filtering vodka with it |
Answer: | it has adhesive, i put it in a window, but didnt get any channels. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My Brita filter keeps smelling bad even after cleaning. Any tips |
Answer: | Pitcher made in China, Filter made in Canada |
Question: | How often does it need cleaning |
Answer: | I don't have any problem pouring water into glasses or bowls with the Brita. But there is one thing you need to beware of. The plastic top 'snaps down' in place. Sometimes it can come loose, and then a flood of water will pour out of the top, and over everything. To stop this from happening, I always put pressure on the top with one hand, when I am pouring water. |
Question: | Is this dispenser compatible with the blue longlast filters or just the standard white ones? Thanks |
Answer: | The easy way to get the white part dislodged is this: Remove the filter. Fill the pitcher all the way up with warm water and a dab of dishwashing liquid. Now turn it upside down. The force of the water and gravity will dislodge the white part. The soap adds some extra slip to dislodge things and cleans the pitcher. I might be a 90 pound weakling but I'm still an engineer's daughter. |
Question: | How tall is the black one? It seems as though the black is shorter and wider than the gray one but getting mixed info. Thanks |
Answer: | Mythbusters tested this concept and busted it. Myth: You can turn low-end vodka into top-shelf vodka with six filtrations of a domestic charcoal water filter (i.e. Brita filters). They set up the experiment so that the vodka testers would each get 8 shots of vodka: 6 from the filtration stations (single filtered, twice filtered, etc...), 1 top-shelf vodka, and 1 unfiltered low-end shot. The tasters were asked to rank the shots. Anthony Dias Blue, vodka expert, executive director San Francisco World Spirits Competion: his ranking corresponded exactly to the number of filtrations, with the top-shelf vodka picked as the best. Anthony: "Passing a low-end vodka through a filter will make it better, but it won't make it a top-shelf vodka" They further analyzed the vodka samples and found that there was no difference in chemical composition between the filtered vodka and the unfiltered vodka. Conclusion: You're better off buying the top-shelf stuff than wasting a bunch of water filters. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pitcher come with a filter, or do I need to buy the filter seperately |
Answer: | I don't recommend using any chemicals but you could try soaking the unit (without the filter) in a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Then instead of dumping the water out try setting it on the counter and let the water freely flow from the opening until the smell goes away. May or may not require more than one go. Best of luck! |
Question: | Just arrived. i don't see anywhere on the packaging that it is bpa free. how do your know that it is? other than that it says so on amazon |
Answer: | I was not able to take mine apart for cleaning. I took the filter out and filled it with hot soapy water. Rinsed it out. Then filled it again with bleach water and rinsed it several times. Kinda disappointed with the design. |
Question: | How do I get the reservoir out of the 5 cup metro pitcher |
Answer: | Hello! Thank you for reaching out. Both Brita Standard and Brita Longlast filters are compatible with the Brita UltraMax. When inserting the filter, please remember to align the longest indentation in the side of the filter with the groove in the hole of the reservoir. Then press down firmly to ensure a snug fit, and that should do it. We hope this has been helpful! Mel from the Brita team |
Question: | Does the lid stay on when pouring |
Answer: | This information is false, at least in 2019. I just received my black dispenser and it is just as tall as the grey one, not shorter, unfortunately. Which means it's around 10.5 inches tall. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this make hose water drinkable |
Answer: | it comes with one filter. That should give you roughly 40 gals of filtered water. The filter is the same as in my larger Brita pitcher |
Question: | How to dismantle the handle to wash |
Answer: | Great question, Kathy! All of our products are BPA free. Our Brita pitchers have always been BPA free. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-24-BRITA Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST. We're always happy to help! - Brita Consumer Services |
Question: | Any trouble with the longlast filter not fitting correctly |
Answer: | Hello! We're sorry to hear that your reservoir is stuck, and we'd like to offer a few tips to help. We recommend using two hands to pull the reservoir up from the body evenly on all sides. If that does not work, try placing it on the counter and letting it come back to room temperature. This works because the tank expands slightly and the water displaces as it warms up, allowing the reservoir to be slightly looser. You can also place your finger between the reservoir and the pitcher in the spout area to aid removal. Please give us a call at 800-24BRITA for further assistance, and be sure to mention this reference number: 171228-000487. We look forward to hearing from you! Mel from the Brita team |
Question: | can you just use the standard britta filter that last for 2 months with this pitcher |
Answer: | Yes, the lid stays in place when pouring. I am very pleased with this product. |

Question: | Does the top (white part) remove for cleaning? Does the plastic part that holds the filter remove? Is there a cover for the water fill hole |
Answer: | The handle it self is not removable. The filter housing and reservoir, however does remove. I suggest using your 1st finger in the spout of the pitcher and your thumb to grab the reservoir, gently rock back and forth while pulling up. The entire reservoir will remove for easy cleaning. Make sure to take out your filter while washing and to dry your pitcher completely. I also recommend you Do Not Any scouring pads on the pitcher itself, as it will scuff and leave looking cloudy. |
Question: | Does tbis pitcher remove heavy metals and flouride |
Answer: | Yes! I have a Brita Ultra Dispenser and the long lasting filters are actually manufactured shorter than the 3 month white filters. This leads to the long lasting filters not being able to create a firm seal and they fill up my dispenser in a matter of seconds - even after making sure the filter is aligned correctly several times. |
Question: | Can it remove bacteria contaminant in water? So we don't have to boil it in developing countries |
Answer: | The filter for this is larger than the standard one. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pitcher come with a filter, or do I need to buy the filter seperately |
Answer: | As the others said: this water is for use with already treated water (thats basically what potable means). It cannot be used in a camping setting to make water safe (so no, it wont remove bacteria), but is best used with already filtered water to filter it further. Personally, I like using the filtered water from my fridge, which rates a 150mp, instead of the tapwater, rates 220 mp, to further filter it to 0mp. Also, the smaller mp water youre entering into the filter, the longer the filter should last. |
Question: | Just arrived. i don't see anywhere on the packaging that it is bpa free. how do your know that it is? other than that it says so on amazon |
Answer: | I "strangled" the filter like the ZeroWater helpline person advised to remove air from the filter - but it still stops half way full. I think it is cause the filter is down in the water too far. I don't think it is the snug airtight fit. I doubt there is anyway to fill the 23 cup reservoir. I am trying a thin piece of plastic to make sure it isn't the airtight issue. Will report back |
Question: | How do I get the reservoir out of the 5 cup metro pitcher |
Answer: | I am on my 2nd filter. I got the little universal ones to try in my current pitcher. The first one lasted about two weeks before the awful smell came. The 2nd one started smelling on day TWO. I can even taste it in the water. I have spring water and it reads at 174. The filter takes it down to 00 but it's not worth it for me to have my whole fridge smelling like this. Going back to my standard. Sorry zero water. |
Question: | Does the lid stay on when pouring |
Answer: | TEST SHOWS THAT ZERO WATER FILTER DOES FILTER OUT FLUORIDE: I have used the Zero Water filter for years (simply because I like zero taste in my water) and have been wondering recently if it filtered out fluoride. Since there is not a definitive answer in this thread I decided to test it myself. I confirmed a level of 0.75 ppm at my home before filtering (0.25 ppm is naturally occurring). Testing showed that the Zero Water filter did filter out fluoride. The test showed that fluoride levels dropped to |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit Cabinet depth refrigerator |
Answer: | it comes with one filter. That should give you roughly 40 gals of filtered water. The filter is the same as in my larger Brita pitcher |
Question: | Can I filter my wine in this |
Answer: | Great question, Kathy! All of our products are BPA free. Our Brita pitchers have always been BPA free. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-24-BRITA Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM EST. We're always happy to help! - Brita Consumer Services |
Question: | can you use the standard brita filter with this one |
Question: | Why do the black and grey look so different in shape and design? Are they not the same except for the color |
Answer: | Yes, the lid stays in place when pouring. I am very pleased with this product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this nsf certified to remove pfnas? is it a carbon-based system |
Answer: | Yes it comes with meter. After three years I had to change the 2 batteries. No problem as I found replacements wherever batteries are found like CVS, Hime Depot or Lowe’s. Love zero water. It is the best. Taste great. |
Question: | Does this come with a filter |
Answer: | This container comes with one filter. I do not know the number to the filter, however I tried to reorder from their website and had the same question. So I called customer support and they told me that one size fits all. I then went to bed baths and beyond website and purchased 4 filters for about $53. Shipping and handling included. |
Question: | Is this fit the standard filter |
Answer: | Q. Does the ZeroWater filter remove Fluoride? A. ZeroWater filters are not certified for the reduction of fluoride however fluoride is an inorganic compound. The TDS meter is designed to detect inorganic compounds. Fluoride levels in water are usually around 2 to 4 ppm, which will show up on the meter as 002 to 004. So when filtered water reads 000 it is not likely that fluoride is present in water. For more FAQs about filters go to www.zerowater.com. |
Question: | Does Brita Pitcher remove all chlorine |
Answer: | I tested mt tap with the meter and got 400ppm. Cleaned and set up my new zero water dispenser/filter and ran tap water thru it- water now testing at zero! And it tastes great. I will say that I tried the PUR pitcher prior to getting zero water and after soaking filter as directed my water tasted like metal or charcoal - possibly due to hard water? However will be returning the pur now that the zero water has been successful in filtering my tap water - very pleased. |
