Answer:	Yes. As long as the charger is plugged in the light is on. I've had the opener for 2 years and LOVE IT! Rarely needs charging. I leave opener in the cabinet with the wine glasses. It does not need to stay on the charger

Answer:	Guess you could, but I don't. You may not have a receptical near the opener or you might not like the looks of the cord being out all the time. The opener should open around 30 bottles between charges. This is an excellent wine opener!
