Answer:	They are women’s sizes. I think the M is for medium width. I love them. Very comfortable. I bought my normal size 8.

Answer:	They aren’t 100% waterproof but pretty water resistant. I used them all through a trip to Oregon on the coast near lots of water and rain and only felt water when my foot slipped into a massive puddle. Did well with lots of rain and walking on shallow water.
