Question:	Does the plastic splash guard have to stay on while using, is it detachable
Answer:	Made in Japan. This looks like a new model. The QuikTemp feature is new. It now does not boil the water (212 degrees) every time you add water or unplug it by accident. If you have it set to 195, like I do, it only heats the water to that temperature. Thus not wasting power and time.. I had two of the CV-DSC40 VE models, both of which developed rusting issues up top under the lid. An very expensive disposable appliance. They too were made in Japan so... I am hoping this model does not rust out like the other two did. I have read almost every review of these things and it seems that Zojirushi CS is essentially useless. I just threw the others out after reading many people here say that calling them was almost pointless...But they really are great when they work or are rust free, if you drink a lot of tea or make those Japanese big boy Udon cup (bowl) of noodles. Just a bit pricy...

For example: We have the 4L version and we fill it once a day and set it at 175 degrees and allow it to go to a full boil. Answer:	Not at all. There is a plastic shield that comes with the mixer (goes over the bowl to prevent splattering), and I suppose some amount of ingredients could come in contact with it, but I don't use the shield.
