Question:	Heavy enough to smash garlic so that skin easily removed
Answer:	I would say so. It's a pretty sturdy wooden mallet and has smashed many things for me already. The mustard may go everywhere however. I smashed some pecans with it and the shells flew in all directions.
Question:	Does this mallet have enough heft to it to be able to split open a mustard packet
Answer:	The handle is 6.5 inches long. The head is 2.25 X 1.5 inches.
