Answer:	Mine measure just over 12". I was disappointed with them - I had expected more 'grip' area (for turning steak on the grill pan) because they had flat ends. Since they only meet at the ends, they just pinch in a small, linear area. Not the secure grip I was looking for so they've been replaced by 10" silicon tipped metal tongs (like SKILCRAFT MR395 - Silicone Tipped Tongs ). Easier to use and better grip.

Answer:	The metal alloy is Stainless Steel likely type 303 which is used on many culinary tools. There are many type of Stainless Steel alloys and all will rust if given a chance. The type 303 has extra Chromium that makes it quite difficult to rust though. The cost of this alloy is much higher that many others but OXO wants their customers to me happy with their products. Now as for the spring that opens and closes the tongs. Not sure what material it's made from. But washing it in the dishwasher will reduce any products lifespan due to the harsh caustic detergent and high heat water boost. If you want things to last you may want to hand wash these.

Answer:	The nylon heads are oval shaped, 1 3/8" wide x 3" long. The grasping surface is concave both side to side and end to end... more so side to side. If grabbing heavy pieces with the tips, they will flex a little.

The newer style with silicone heads has a steel frame, but the heads are fully covered with silicone - you cannot see steel on the back of the silicone - it is inside the silicone. Nylon is firmer and thinner and just has steel on the back of the heads rather than fully inside. It depends on what heat you need. If you only need 400 degrees, I would like the nylon better. The silicone heads will withstand up to 600 degrees. You can usually tell if it's the genuine article by the latching mechanism. Knockoffs generally have a round black latch with no "oxo" or "stainless" labels. The real thing has an odd-shaped (not round) latch and says, I think, "stainless" on the nylon ones, and "oxo" on the silicone ones, but the black latch ends both have that signature shape.

Question:	How tight is the gripping? Some tongs make my hands tired... Is this one reasonably easy to pinch
Answer:	Even with the largest tongs, the grip is very smooth and easy. I have had other tongs that I had to hold tightly and my hand got tired, but not with these. I haven't used them for long periods of time but I have used them for the grill and for tossing big salad bowls without struggling to hold them.
Question:	Do they really lock closed tight with no Gap like it shows in picture.? Others have 1-2" gap but show none like this
Answer:	They really lock close. I've only had them for 1 week or so. But so far so good
Question:	These say they are silcone tipped. I take that as rubbery feeling material that is a bit pliable instead of the hard plastic nylon feeling stuff
Answer:	Yes, it's the pliable material - not hard at all. It's not floppy, though - the metal extends far enough down to the ends to give you a firm grip on things. They're exactly what I'd hoped they'd be. I hope this helps.
