Answer:	The description says "natural wood surface". The sheen is likely from being oiled at the factory. Hand wash (never soak!) with a VERY minimal amount of soap in cool/warm water; dry immediately. Re-oil occasionally with mineral oil and wipe off excess after letting it soak in. Do NOT use food-type oils (vegetable/olive etc.) as they also soak into the wood and will get rancid!
