Answer:	Wood should not be placed into a dishwasher ever. Spoons even. The hot water swells the wood and opens pores allowing nasties to get in.

Answer:	Remove wires often to keep them clean and dry, letting the holes dry out thoroughly before replacing wires. If you're handing, replace steel wires with a nonferrous wire.
