12 best cast iron fry pans
Cast iron fry pans, often referred to as cast iron skillets, are popular cookware items known for their durability and versatility in the kitchen. Here's what you need to know about them:
Material: Cast iron fry pans are made from a single piece of cast iron. This heavy-duty material is known for its excellent heat retention and even heating properties.
Seasoning: Cast iron cookware is typically seasoned before use. Seasoning involves applying a layer of oil and heating the pan to create a non-stick surface. Over time, the seasoning develops, making the pan more non-stick and resistant to rust.
Versatility: Cast iron skillets are incredibly versatile. They can be used for a wide range of cooking methods, including frying, searing, sautéing, baking, and even grilling. They can go from stovetop to oven with ease.
Heat Retention: Cast iron has excellent heat retention properties, meaning it stays hot even after removing it from the heat source. This makes it great for dishes that require consistent, high heat, such as searing steaks or making cornbread.
Non-Stick Surface: With proper seasoning and maintenance, cast iron skillets develop a natural non-stick surface. This allows for cooking with less oil and easier food release.
Longevity: Cast iron cookware is known for its longevity. With proper care, it can last for generations. Regularly seasoning and avoiding activities that can damage the seasoning, like cooking highly acidic foods for extended periods, helps preserve its lifespan.
Maintenance: Cleaning cast iron pans requires special care. It's generally recommended to avoid using soap, as it can strip away the seasoning. Instead, rinse with hot water and scrub with a brush or scraper if necessary. Afterward, dry it thoroughly and apply a thin layer of oil to maintain the seasoning.
Rust Prevention: Keeping cast iron dry is essential to prevent rust. Storing it in a dry place and ensuring it's completely dry after washing is crucial.
Weight: Cast iron skillets can be quite heavy, which can make them challenging to handle, especially when they are hot. However, the weight also contributes to their excellent heat retention and cooking properties.
Sizes: Cast iron skillets come in various sizes, from small ones for individual servings to large ones for cooking family-sized meals. Common sizes include 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch skillets.
In summary, cast iron fry pans, or skillets, are highly durable and versatile cookware items known for their even heating, heat retention, and natural non-stick properties when properly seasoned. They require special care and maintenance to prevent rust and maintain their non-stick surface. Cast iron skillets are beloved by many cooks for their ability to handle a wide range of cooking techniques and last for generations when cared for properly.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the skillet very sticky to cook? nothing like non-stick |
Answer: | Surprisingly, no. This skillet is not sticky to cook. Not even cheese really sticks like in some pans, and the skillet cleans easier than I expected. |
Question: | Is This Dishwasher Safe |
Answer: | Hand wash with water. Never submerge cast iron or use a dishwasher. |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | The cast iron skillets made in China that are made for use in the USA have to meet specific FDA regulations. So grab them up quickly as the current administration in Washington DC is getting rid of a LOT of regulations for clean air, clean water, specific regs for cooking utensils made elsewhere. Otherwise get Griswold, Wagner, or Lodge pans all made here in the USA. Or you can go to yard sales, farm sales etc and find one made 75 years ago. But come on! How many great chefs do we have here? As a doctor I love the people who get upset about cast iron pans, then drink sugar sodas (probably #1 for obesity and heart disease) and all processed foods. Folks who go for gluten-free when the only people who need it are those with celiac disease...and so on. These Chinese made pans are cheap---that’s why we buy so much stuff made in China. |
Question: | Does it protect against firearms |
Answer: | This is actually a complicated answer that depends primarily energy dissipation. Cast iron's higher carbon content translates to a very stiff molecular structure of iron, carbon, silica, and impurities; which is physically very hard and has more ceramic / brittle characteristics than ductile metals. Cast iron won't bend; structural failure is driven by unpredictable and catastrophic crack propagation. Cast iron will shatter like a clay pot in a direct strike, but has a very high surface hardness, resilient to compression and superior at deflecting less-hard materials. If you bought 20 or so skillets and embedded them in a matrix of rubber and kevlar at varying surface normal angles, it would protect against smaller firearms. Need thicker plate for bigger rounds. |
- PRECISION HEAT DISTRIBUTION – These cast iron skillets have a smooth finish to help provide even heat distribution for improved cooking and frying, even on grills, stoves or induction cooktops.
- TRUE COOKING VERSATILITY – The Cuisinel cast iron skillet pan can be used for frying, baking, grilling, broiling, braising, and sauteing meats, vegetables and more!
- SUPERIOR CRAFTSMANSHIP – Each all-purpose fajita skillet is crafted with seasoned cast iron that can outlast years of regular cooking and washing for long-term reliability.
- EASY TO CLEAN & MAINTAIN – Cast iron cookware should be hand washed with warm water and restored with natural oils; that means no soap or dishwasher use.
- LIFETIME WARRANTY: Go on, fire up your Cuisinel cookware. If anything happens, it's on us. In additional to Amazon's seamless 30-day money back guarantee, Cuisinel Cast Iron guarantees the quality and durability of all its products for a lifetime, so you can be assured that you are making the right choice and there is no risk to you.
User questions & answers
Question: | Can I leave the silicone covers on while I season them again |
Answer: | No you can't. In the book that comes with it says to use the silicone handles or heavy duty oven mitts when using them so I didn't use them while seasoning. |
Question: | Do they have lids |
Answer: | The company has a lid that you can purchase on Amazon, as I did for the 12inch pan I bought. It works wonderfully with the pan. |
Question: | how to keep food from sticking |
Answer: | Hot pan, cold oil. Keep your pans seasoned. Don't put your food in until your oil is well heated, cold oil will cause your food to stick. Let your food cook a while before you flip or move it. |
Question: | Where were these pans made? Thank you |
Answer: | The skillets are manufactured in China. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use broiler for this pan |
Answer: | It is heavy. |
Question: | How heavy is it |
Answer: | It’s made in France the cookware is by no means cheep but it’s the best cookware I’ve ever purchased. If your purchase the skillet get the rubber handle cover it does get hot. The skillet is heavier than traditional cookware but will last forever. |
Question: | In what country is this pan made |
Answer: | Both are made of cast iron and well suited for frying, baking, etc. Lodge pans need to be “seasoned” before first usage, and cleaned without soap. Le Creuset pans are pre-treated to be somewhat non-stick and can be washed with soap (but not in a dishwasher.) So, Le Creuset pans are a little easier to use. They are also very beautiful with their colorful enamel exteriors. That said, I have both Le Creuset and old fashioned iron skillets and love them for their individual strengths. If the price of Le Creuset is too high to suit you, the traditional iron skillets are just as useful! |
Question: | Can I use this exactly like a Lodge cast iron pan |
Answer: | We use this for popping. Add this and flavacol while heating before the popcorn seeds go in and you have movie style popcorn with no additional topping. Yum! |

Ready to Use: Factory Seasoning
To provide you with ready to use cast-iron skillets, all our cast-iron cookware pass through factory pre-seasoning stage in which soy-based oil is used on these high head allowing the polymers to create an initial layer of seasoning. This one factory seasoned layer is equivalent to 10-15 rounds of normal home seasoning. The normal cast iron seasoning we create at home is attained when the fats and oils used in cooking are collected on the cast iron.
This makes our cast iron cookware completely ready to be used straight out of the box. No initial seasoning is required. However; in order to maintain the factory-seasoned cast iron layer, you need to season it from time to time. Factory seasoning is just a kick-start to your cookware’s seasoning life. Not to forget that seasoning is an on-going course. If you want your cast iron to maintain a perfect black, non-stick patina, then get started with the cooking. Regular use and proper maintenance is the key to a coveted black non-stick surface.
Seasoning Tips
- Before cooking, rub some olive oil over your cookwares' surface
- After washing, rub some oil over your cookwares' surface and place it in an oven at low temperature for the oil to seep in
Enjoy a Healthy Lifestyle
Our cast iron skillets have an added advantage over the regular non-sticky pans. You can avoid the harmful effects that are found in regular non-stick pans.
Care Instructions
Cool the skillets completely before washing in hot soapy water with a sponge using a regular dish washing liquid soap; season with a thick coating of vegetable fat or oil.

User questions & answers
Question: | induction usage possible |
Answer: | Yes the rule if a magnet will stick to the bottom it is induction ready I have only used mine on my induction cooktop. |
Question: | Anyone with experience cooking salmon? Suggestions? Recipies? (I don't like highly-seasoned foods |
Answer: | 1. season your salmon with some oil seasoning paste (oil + seasoning+ salt+ other spices of your choice). Let rest for 10-15 mins for the oil seasoning paste to be absorbed into the fish. If you don't like highly-seasoned foods, then make sure you buy good quality salmon, and you can just season it with some salt and a thin layer of oil, then adding some fresh lemon juice before serving. If you want to skip the oil too, then you need the part of the salmon that has more fat)2. Heat the pan until very very very hot, you don't need to put oil into the pan.3. Use medium high heat. Put the fish with the side you want to present on the plate DOWN. Seal for 2-4 mins depending on the thickness of your salmon.4. Flip the fish when you see the meat is almost half way cooked (you will notice the cooked part has a slightly different color)5. Turn OFF the heat or turn the heat down to low, because the heat from the pan will cook the meat for you and this process will prevent from over-cooking your fish.6. Cook for about 2 to 3 mins or until you see the color of the fish meat is slightly pinkish and when you press the fish with your finger the meat will not bounce back.7. Serve with some freshly cut lemon wedges, the squeeze the lemon juice on the fish before eating. |
Question: | The best way to clean a cast iron grill pan |
Answer: | Cast iron cookware is my favorite! I usually just rinse with hot water and use a mild scrubber on mine. After some time, however, my cast iron gets buildup on the sides - I put the pans in the self-cleaning oven and they come out like new. They do have to be re-seasoned but that doesn't take much effort. I'm sure it would work fine on this ridged pan that is sure to be more difficult to clean. |
Question: | how does this compare with the much more expensive enamel coated version? and why |
Answer: | Much better. I have this Lodge and the LC enamel version. Trust me on this - never buy this style pan with enamel coating. Grill type pans are more difficult to clean because of the ridges, nooks & crannies. Because cast iron seasons better and becomes more non-stick than enamel, it is MUCH easier to clean with use. My LC is in the garage awaiting disposal. I love LC, but their grill pans should be avoided. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the finish on the griddle cast iron or is it a non stick coating |
Answer: | Thank you for your inquiry. This griddle does not have a nonstick coating applied to the surface. However, it features a pre-seasoned cooking surface to help prevent sticking. |
Question: | What is the chemical used in the "pre-seasoning |
Answer: | The chemical used is a plant oil. Flaxseed has been proven to be the best. The following link will give you the science as to why flaxseed is best as well as instructions. https://www.cooksillustrated.com/how_tos/5820-the-ultimate-way-to-season-cast-iron Remember that acidic foods such as tomatoes, lemons and limes can unseasonably your pans. |
Question: | Just purchased this pan. i oiled the pan after washing with hot water and brush. now i'm wondering about the outside of it. will it rust if not oiled |
Answer: | Yes, you can and probably should season the outside so you never have to deal with rust. Flaxseed oil holds up the best & creates the thinnest, shiniest coating. If you don't have that, anything like bacon fat, shortening, or a neutral cooking oil with a high smoke point will also work. Just preheat your oven to 350 degrees, rub a thin layer of oil on the inside & outside of your pan, and leave it in the oven for 45 minutes to an hour. You don't have to do it every time you use the pan, but once in a while does help. |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | I'll be truthful here. I have bought Chinese cast iron skillet's like this one before and returned them. Go with a Lodge instead, you won't regret it. I'll tell you why. With the China cast iron skillet's the iron is not pure enough and does NOT give the great taste to the food like a Lodge. Lodge cast iron is way better and more pure iron content. With China the taste is not there when you cook your food. Trust me on this. |

Question: | where is this griddle made |
Answer: | Hi, Thank you for your interest in Cuisinel cast iron! Cuisinel products are designed in the USA and manufactured in China. Regards, Rose |
Question: | How does this compare to lodge which is made in usa |
Answer: | Hi, thanks for your inquiry and interest in our Cuisinel products! The compounds and alloys that make up our cast iron is exactly the same as most other popular brands of cast iron. Hope this was helpful! Sincerely, Cuisinel |
Question: | Why do they stick when you make scrambled eggs |
Answer: | As a general rule, I always re-season my cast iron before 1st use. I know most come saying that they are preseasoned but you don't know how long ago or what oil was used. You'll find a lot of recommendations out there for oil for seasoning but here's what I do and why: I use a parchment or wax paper ball to thinly coat the cast iron in coconut oil. Coconut oil has natural antimicrobial properties, doesn't go rancid quickly like vegetable oil or sunflower oil and isn't gone after one or two uses like bacon grease. I heat the pan in the oven for about an hour and then I have a nonstick surface. if you don't get the seasoning right or you don't preheat the pan, it can cause really bad sticking |
Question: | Is this made in the USA or elsewhere |
Answer: | China |

Answer: | good idea to use parchment paper between the cast iron and glass INDUCTION cooktop. Not sure if this will work on electric cook tops - check parchment paper temperature rating, but most is siliconized so it should work...test however. |
Question: | When you grease the cookware how do you store it to keep the grease from becoming rancid |
Answer: | Don't "grease" your pan just use a very light coat of lard, bacon grease or crisco to season your pan after washing and drying well. Then place the pan in the oven at 450 for about an hour. Wipe about at 15 and 30 minutes into the baking process. |
Question: | Mine got rusty from sitting around, what can I do about it , if anything |
Answer: | Most important thing with CI cookware is keeping them 'seasoned'. An old one, I cleaned itwell, used a steel wool scratchier a few drops of dawn, totally dry, and covered the pot completely with a coat of Crisco. Turn Oven to 350° place rack on the lowest slot, put a heavy piece of foil there Lay the pot/skillet in the oven upside down and 'bake ' for 1 hour. Shut the oven off and leave in there until cool. Now if it really rusty and you cannot remove the rust, Lodge says to take it to a Machine shop and have it sandblasted. Quickly home, wash it with hot water, a scrub brush and 1 drop of Dan, rinse and coast with Crisco and proceed as above. Any questions contact Lodge www.lodgemfg.com or call CS at 423-837-7181. Most important is when done using ..clean it out with hot water dry and coat with Crisco when it is still warm. I stack in the cabinet, using parchment paper liners between each pan/pot. Never use metal tools. Wood plastic or silicone. Did this help?? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Whith what OIL was it seasoned |
Answer: | Our cast iron had been seasoned with Kosher Certified Palm Olein for years. We changed the seasoning to organic Flaxseed oil on the second half of 2017, which has had better results in testing, and skillets with that seasoning started hitting store shelves in August 2017. So both oils are vegetable oils baked at super high temperatures, but we just changed from Certified Kosher Palm Olein to Flaxseed, which is not certified Kosher. If you buy one today from Amazon, it'll be a flaxseed oil pan. |
Question: | Where made country |
Answer: | Colombia |
Question: | Is this skillet dishwasher safe |
Answer: | No! Cast iron pan without porcelain enamel should never be placed in dishwasher. |
Question: | How deep is this skillet |
Answer: | Well it recites Shakespeare, so I say pretty deep. |
Question: | Can this 11 inch enameled cast iron skillet be used in the oven |
Answer: | Doubt it since it has a non-stick surface. Enamel is better, see Lodge's Dutch oven http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-EC6D43-Enameled-Island-6-Quart/dp/B000N501BK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1389456778&sr=8-3&keywords=lodge+cast+iron+dutch+oven |
Question: | Will it work on a glass topped electric stove |
Answer: | I have an induction stove with a glass top and it works fine. I bought it specifically for my glass top since a regular cast iron pan is a bit rough on the bottom this is smooth and will not scratch my stove top. However, it is heavy I always use care setting it down on the stove I think it is heavy enough that if dropped it has a possibility to break the glass. |
Question: | any one know of a cast iron or glass or even steel lid that fits on this skillet |
Answer: | I have the Lodge Dutch Oven and I use the lid from this which fits the skillet. I would assume that you might be able to pick up a lid from Bed, Bath and Beyond because they sell individual lids. |
Question: | What size dutch oven lid will fit the 11 inch cast iron enameled skillet and be safe to use |
Answer: | I have a 11" enameled skillet and the lid from my 6qt enameled Dutch Oven fits it nicely |

Our History
Victoria was founded in 1939. We are a three-generation family business located in Medellín, Colombia. The founder Raúl Mejía was 16 years old when he decided to start a small business in the foundry industry. He crafted his first products: metallic toy soldiers and decorative crosses. After perfecting the art of casting, Raúl’s passion for cooking and fresh foods lead him to create Victoria Cast Iron Cookware.
Look at Those Curves
Longer & curvy handles don't just translate to better maneuverability, but also to cooler handle temperatures on the stove (protective gear is still always recommended for iron products).
Harmonious Design
Our skillets and grills are part of one good-looking family, and they are all designed in harmony to look that way.
Keepin' it Natural
Victoria Cast Iron skillets have been praised by chefs and professional testers for their excellent pre-seasoning right out of the box! Extensive tips on maintaining and building seasoning are found on the packaging and on our website
Multi-Functional, Multi-Faceted
Bake in it, Fry in it, BBQ in it. The Victoria Skillet is suitable for cooking in: induction, ceramic, campfire, grill, oven, & more. And to top it off, our skillets are deeper and have a wider cooking surface, allowing you to sear, bake and fry better.
