14 best 10 or 12 inch cast iron skillet
A 10 or 12-inch cast iron skillet is a popular and versatile piece of cookware commonly used in home kitchens. Here's some information about it:
Material: Cast iron skillets are made from heavy-duty cast iron, known for its excellent heat retention and distribution properties. This means that once heated, the skillet will maintain a consistent temperature, ensuring even cooking.
Size: The skillet typically comes in various sizes, with the 10 and 12-inch options being among the most common. The size you choose depends on your cooking needs and the number of people you typically cook for.
Versatility: Cast iron skillets are incredibly versatile and can be used for various cooking methods. You can use them for frying, searing, baking, roasting, and even as a serving dish. They are suitable for both stovetop and oven use, making them a handy kitchen tool.
Seasoning: Cast iron skillets require seasoning to create a natural, non-stick surface. Seasoning involves applying a layer of oil and heating the skillet to create a protective coating. Over time, with proper care, this seasoning layer improves and enhances the skillet's non-stick properties.
Durability: Cast iron skillets are known for their durability and can last for generations with proper care. They are virtually indestructible and can withstand high temperatures.
Maintenance: To maintain a cast iron skillet, it's important to avoid using harsh soaps or scrubbers that can strip away the seasoning. Instead, clean it with hot water and a brush or sponge, and dry it thoroughly to prevent rust.
Health Benefits: Cooking in cast iron can also have health benefits, as it can add small amounts of iron to your food, which is especially beneficial for individuals with iron deficiencies.
Heat Source: Cast iron skillets can be used on various heat sources, including gas, electric, induction, and open flame. This versatility makes them suitable for different kitchen setups.
Cost: While cast iron skillets may initially seem more expensive compared to some other cookware options, their durability and longevity make them a cost-effective investment in the long run.
Recipes: There are countless recipes designed specifically for cast iron skillets, from classic dishes like cornbread and fried chicken to more modern creations like skillet pizzas and desserts.
In summary, a 10 or 12-inch cast iron skillet is a versatile, durable, and long-lasting piece of cookware that can be used for a wide range of cooking methods. Proper care and maintenance can ensure that it remains a valuable tool in your kitchen for many years to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where are they made |
Answer: | No lead great pan |
Question: | Can these can go from the stove top to the oven with no issues |
Answer: | Because seasonings start to burn off at 550 degrees or so. So they say "450" to keep overly ambitious people from returning this item when they burn it down to bare steel...which then rusts within minutes of coming into contact with air...prompting an angry review with ugly photos attached. |
Question: | Can these be used on a gas grill |
Answer: | @ J. Finnigan thanks so much for your reply! I've just ordered some cast iron Xmas gifts for friends and family from lodgecastiron . Buying GREAT USA made products helps everyone that lives here. |
Question: | are these seasoned |
Answer: | The developers have posted again and again that the next generation skillet will have USB C, I see a lot of comments saying the current version has USB C but it does NOT! |

User questions & answers
Question: | OK for induction stove top |
Answer: | Hi, Thank you for your interest in Cuisinel cast iron! Yes, you can use our cast iron on an induction stove top. Best, Rose |
Question: | How tall is the pan |
Answer: | This is a great pan (got 2) ,love it ! One ☝️ for my son and for me. Biscuit pan for me ,keep it oiled. |
Question: | How does the manufacturer pre-season this pan....i.e., with what materials....resin, oil or |
Answer: | Think of seasoning like this: if a pan says it is "seasoned" by the manufacturer, that simply means it is "food grade anti-rust protection". You can use the cleaning mode on your oven to remove this layer and apply your own although it will heat up your house and stink it up as well with burnt oil. Your best bet is to take some sand paper to it and smooth it out so it's not so rough to remove some of the "seasoning" applied by the manufacturer and then reseason it with whatever you'd like. You can use pretty much anything you have on hand although I'd recommend something cheap but with a high smoke point like peanut oil or canola oil. I personally prefer peanut because when it burns it tends to smell sweet and canola tends to smell fishy. Aside from that if the above paragraph sounds like too much work, just start using it out of the box after washing it well and you'll never have to worry about it. The more you use it the better the seasoning will get. You can use wood, plastic or metal spoons or spatulas but I'd avoid plastic because it'll melt on ya. It will be strong like glass once it's seasoned properly. I personally use a sander on any new cast iron that isn't pre-polished. I know it will wear down over time but I just hate the rough finish it has and prefer to get it broken in quicker. |
Question: | what country was it made in |
Answer: | After much research the best I could find was, it was made in China |

Cleaning Your Cast Iron Skillet
- Get right to it: Clean the skillet immediately after use, while it is still hot or warm. Don’t soak the pan or leave it in the sink because it may rust.
- Add hot water: Wash the skillet by hand using hot water and a sponge or stiff brush. (Use tongs or wear gloves if the water is extra hot!) Avoid using the dishwasher, soap, or steel wool, as these may strip the pan’s seasoning.
- Scrub off stuck-on bits: To remove stuck-on food, scrub the pan with a paste of coarse kosher salt and water. Then rinse or wipe with a paper towel. Stubborn food residue may also be loosened by boiling water in the pan.
- Dry the skillet: Thoroughly towel dry the skillet or dry it on the stove over low heat.
- Oil it: Using a cloth or paper towel, apply a light coat of vegetable oil or melted shortening to the inside of the skillet. Some people also like to oil the outside of the skillet. Buff to remove any excess.
- Put it away: Store the skillet in a dry place.
- PRECISION HEAT DISTRIBUTION – This cast iron skillet has a smooth finish to help provide even heat distribution for improved cooking and frying, even on grills, stoves or induction cooktops.

User questions & answers
Question: | can rubber handle be on while cooking |
Answer: | Hi, Thank you for your interest in Cuisinel cast iron! Yes, you can leave the silicone handle on while cooking. Best, Rose |
Question: | Can you use it on a glass top stove |
Answer: | Yes you can use it on a glasstop and any other heating element including induction. For glass tops, try not to move, or slide the Skillet around while cooking. It may scratch the surface, though it won't affect the heating element. And a note to Chris... Don't use a metal pad. Use a pinch or two of course Kosher Salt in the pan and scrub. The salt will release the sticky foods and clean the pan. Seasoning the pan regularly will build the anti-stick properties of the skillet. Over time it will become completely non-stick if properly cared for and seasoned. I use a number of Cast Iron pots and pans, and am a Home and Personal Chef. They are awesome cooking devices! |
Question: | Made in the USA |
Answer: | Lodge is made in the USA. So is Finex, Field, Butter Pat, Stargazer, and others. Lifetime warranties, better pans |
Question: | Why is the surface bumpy not smooth at all, I have never seen a CI pan like this |
Answer: | All pre seasoned Skillets come that way, I researched on Google before I purchased and learned what to do so I wouldn't have to go thru the process taking months to get the pan seasoned properly. Use sandpaper on both sides until smooth, then oil and leave the oil in the pan until you use it, wipe and reoil for cooking. Please do some research, it's easy to find on google.. C. Diaz..... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I leave the silicone covers on while I season them again |
Answer: | No you can't. In the book that comes with it says to use the silicone handles or heavy duty oven mitts when using them so I didn't use them while seasoning. |
Question: | Do they have lids |
Answer: | The company has a lid that you can purchase on Amazon, as I did for the 12inch pan I bought. It works wonderfully with the pan. |
Question: | how to keep food from sticking |
Answer: | Hot pan, cold oil. Keep your pans seasoned. Don't put your food in until your oil is well heated, cold oil will cause your food to stick. Let your food cook a while before you flip or move it. |
Question: | Where were these pans made? Thank you |
Answer: | The skillets are manufactured in China. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the skillet very sticky to cook? nothing like non-stick |
Answer: | Surprisingly, no. This skillet is not sticky to cook. Not even cheese really sticks like in some pans, and the skillet cleans easier than I expected. |
Question: | Is This Dishwasher Safe |
Answer: | Hand wash with water. Never submerge cast iron or use a dishwasher. |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | The cast iron skillets made in China that are made for use in the USA have to meet specific FDA regulations. So grab them up quickly as the current administration in Washington DC is getting rid of a LOT of regulations for clean air, clean water, specific regs for cooking utensils made elsewhere. Otherwise get Griswold, Wagner, or Lodge pans all made here in the USA. Or you can go to yard sales, farm sales etc and find one made 75 years ago. But come on! How many great chefs do we have here? As a doctor I love the people who get upset about cast iron pans, then drink sugar sodas (probably #1 for obesity and heart disease) and all processed foods. Folks who go for gluten-free when the only people who need it are those with celiac disease...and so on. These Chinese made pans are cheap---that’s why we buy so much stuff made in China. |
Question: | Does it protect against firearms |
Answer: | This is actually a complicated answer that depends primarily energy dissipation. Cast iron's higher carbon content translates to a very stiff molecular structure of iron, carbon, silica, and impurities; which is physically very hard and has more ceramic / brittle characteristics than ductile metals. Cast iron won't bend; structural failure is driven by unpredictable and catastrophic crack propagation. Cast iron will shatter like a clay pot in a direct strike, but has a very high surface hardness, resilient to compression and superior at deflecting less-hard materials. If you bought 20 or so skillets and embedded them in a matrix of rubber and kevlar at varying surface normal angles, it would protect against smaller firearms. Need thicker plate for bigger rounds. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it made in china or usa |
Answer: | It is made in China but that does not take away from the quality of this lid. I use it very often and have not been disappointed in my choice to purchase this lid. Some of the other reviews on Amazon are unfavorable but I have not experienced any "flaws". I do wash the lid by hand not in the dishwasher. |
Question: | Curious what size pans the Large actually accommodates? I wrote to their customer service and was told it handles 9.5" to 12". Can someone confirm |
Answer: | If your pan measures 12" OUTER diameter and 11 1/2 INNER diameter (which is most 12" pans) (although most pans are made overseas, so they might use the metric system {mm} it should fit perfectly. Mine does. |
Question: | is handle silicone or plastic? heat resistant |
Answer: | Silicone and heat resistant. Same as the rim. |
Question: | Will this work on a gas stove? Some of these do not work because they get too hot |
Answer: | A gas burner and an electric burner heat to the same temperature. As long as the flames aren't leaping up outside of the perimeter of the pan, I see no reason why this lid wouldn't work on a pan sitting on a gas burner. (Small pan should not go on large burner, whether gas or electric, right?) |

Product description
BackCountry Iron's Cast Iron 10" Pre-Seasoned Skillet is hand-made using a proprietary metallurgical alloy, and is seasoned using our company's blend of the finest food grade oils available to ensure you've got the best quality skillet on the market. We take pride in our products and focus on quality and craftsmanship before all else. You'll find that your foods sear evenly and your foods cook with more consistency than with other cast iron products.
If you look closely at the surface of the pan, you'll find that the surface is comprised of iron micro-globuals, a technological improvement invented in-house to ensure that the seasoning on your pan adheres easily and quickly. We've used the same design care in selecting and manufacturing a protective mitt for the pan, ensuring that our nylon based cloth handles are comfortable to hold, easy to slide-on and slide-off, and are extremely protective for your skin.
This pan is great for high heat and dual oven/stove techniques, and is also great for cooking:
- Meats
- Vegetables
- Fish
- Deserts
- Cornbread
- Casseroles
- Cast iron has superior heat retention for even cooking, restaurant quality searing and comes pre-seasoned for teflon like non-stick cooking surface when used with a thin layer of oil. Ready to use out of the box! Our 10” pan has a few measurements you should know: The pan itself is 2 in. deep and measures 10.75 in. from one lip to the other, with a usable cooking surface of 8.75 in. It’s handle measures 4.5 inches.
- Use with confidence on all cooking surfaces: gas, electric, induction, oven, broiler, grill and even the fire pit.
- Your skillet can rust so keep it out of the dishwasher, do not soak and dry immediately after cleaning. Use warm water, scrape any stuck bits with a spoon, a little elbow grease with a rag and finish with a paper towel. Lightly polish with a stainless steel chainmail scrubber for a smooth patina.
- Proudly designed in the USA, pre-seasoned with our proprietary oil blend, cast from the finest virgin ore and built to last for generations to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | what weight is the pan |
Answer: | Hello, the weight of the pan is approx 11 lbs |
Question: | How do you season cast iron ? What temp an for how long |
Answer: | I was told this to season or reseason a cast iron cooking pans coat with oil all over put in oven at 350 for an hour works every time and works well. After washing and drying what I also do is wipe with oil heat the pan up wipe with oil. if you are careful you won't get burned if you are clumsy get a pair of silicone gloves for oven use. |
Question: | Rusted inmediately. what am i suppose to do? the deep pan is heavily rusted even though the frying pan is perfectly fine. i followed all instructions |
Answer: | Hi, thank you for your interest in our Cuisinel products! Cast Iron rusts easily for numerous reasons; the main being that it is left with water on it and not fully dried before it was put away. A few simple steps can return the skillet back to its original appearance. Use some mild dish soap and try to take off as much rust as possible. Next, season the pan by rubbing a light layer of vegetable oil covering the entire pan (inside and outside). Next put into the oven on 400 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for one hour. Let pan cool off. Remove from oven. Wipe down the skillet and it should be as good as new! Hope this was helpful! Don't hesitate to reach out with any other concerns or questions. Sincerely, Cuisinel |
Question: | can you tell me where this is made? thanks |
Answer: | This is not manufactured in Tennessee. Lodge is manufactured in Tennessee. I know of two other cast iron cookware manufacturers in the United States. They both extremely nice, they are pricey. American Skillet Company is in the process of making state shaped pans (7 so far). The other American company is Finex (the skillets are gorgeous and high quality. This brand is made in China. |
