Answer:	The clock frame (brown) doesn't rest against the wall, it's about 3/4" away. However, there is a plastic black housing that is slightly smaller than the brown frame that rests against the wall (which is were the mechanics are). You're not able to see this back surface unless you stand right next to it looking for it. This has been a great clock and doesn't make a sound.

Answer:	The body is stiff, durable plastic. Looks metallic at distance. The movement says “Seiko Clock INC.” made in Thailand. The movement cover is a see through smoke color and you can watch the gears turn. Makes no noise. I love it on my wall. Worth the price.
