My husband had severe allergies and was sneezing at least 25 times a day....I haven't heard him in over a week. I know when it's time to clean the filter because his eyes water and he sneezes a lot. This has 3 speeds. quick clean, reguar, and whisper clean. I use quick clean after I change the filter and let it run for 30-45 minutes, then I change it to regular for 2-3 days, and then I run it on whisper clean the rest of the time. If it gets really dusty, like when we do yard work , or we cook fish or something that really stinks - I change it to quick clean. You'll be able to figure out a routine that works best for you.
