It has not been over-used ,nor has it been washed yet, but all the High, Medium, and Low lights on the control are blinking and the blanket is not functioning. We tried the manual's troubleshooting of unplugging, etc., but it appears to be broken. I now read the other comments and find this is a common problem. What can we do about this? You are correct. It should have been more clearly disclaimed in the description that it requires an independent power source. You will need a "portable USB power bank" like the ones people use to charge their cell phones on the go. Amazon has lots of options, many under $20. My two recommendations would be: 1.) Get one with at least 10,000 mAh for longer heating time between charges, but that said 2.) If you will wear it as a shawl (recommended!), look for the lightest weight power bank you can find since it will go in the handy USB pocket on the inside of the blanket.

Is this throw battery operated or do you have to plug it in

The tag on the pad says it's made in China and gives laundering instructions.Which are basically wash in warm water with like colors, non chlorine bleach when needed and tumble dry on medium heat. I've had mine for a couple of months and they seem to wash up beautifully, however because of the heavy (PVC I think) lining you have to pull it out mid cycle and make sure that the outside fabric is facing outward so that it dries evenly. Hopefully this helps!
