What Elements Play A Roll in Falls?

Center of Gravity & Balance:

• ​One key to maintaining balance is to control the location of the body’s center of gravity relative to its base of support.
• ​​Once we lean forward or backward and allow our center of gravity to move beyond our base of support, we will quickly lose our balance and fall unless we move our center of gravity back over our base.

Gravity:

• ​Gravity accelerates objects towards the ground at a rate of 32 feet per second squared. With the force of gravity always pulling us downwards, it’s no wonder that even a small fall can cause big injuries.

Momentum:

• Momentum is a function of an object’s mass and speed. An object’s momentum determines how much force is required in order to bring the object to a stop.
• Remember that “a body in motion tends to stay in motion.” When our base of support, our feet, are stopped suddenly, our center of gravity will tend to stay in motion and may extend too far past our base of support, causing a loss of balance and a fall.

Answer:	It looks like the economy is just the strap and not the wide belt, the standard the one we have has the wide belt with handles to hang on to and the loops belt also has loops that go around the legs. Just click on each and you’ll clearly see how each is different.
Question:	How do you keep belt from sliding up without the leg straps
Answer:	A gait belt should be cinched snugly around the hips, not the waist. Placed at the waist, it will climb up under the ribs, resulting in the wearer being like a marionnette. This is not safe belt positioning as you do not have good control. You have far greater control when walking with, moving or transferring someone with the gait belt at the hips. If the wearer should lose their balance, you can easily place your leg between theirs, safely sliding them down your leg into a seated position rather than them taking you down with them.
Question:	Will this belt fit a large man? I bought one that was too small

Answer:	Anything that is not single phase cannot have twice the voltage across two hot lines. If each line has 120V and there are 240V between the two lines, then it must be single phase system. I use mine in the US with 2x120V lines (single phase) and ground, no neutral. Works just fine... :)

Question:	what is the weightlimit for the person being lifted
Answer:	This belt is adjustable to at least a 26 inch waist, because it was used for myself and I was a 26" waist at the time. I believe it can adjust smaller than that.
Question:	how easy is the buckle release for a person with weak hands
Answer:	The belt fits up to a 55" waist. Not sure what that equates to in body weight. I wouldn't try to support someone by myself if the weighed significantly more than I did.
