13 best saline nasal sprays
Saline nasal sprays are over-the-counter (OTC) medications commonly used to relieve nasal congestion and dryness associated with sinus issues, allergies, colds, or dry air. They are a type of non-medicated nasal spray made from a solution of salt (sodium chloride) and water. Here's what you need to know about saline nasal sprays:
Ingredients and Composition: Saline nasal sprays typically contain a solution of purified water and a specific concentration of salt (sodium chloride), usually similar to the body's natural saline concentration.
Purpose: The main purpose of saline nasal sprays is to moisten and irrigate the nasal passages, providing relief from dryness and congestion. They can also help flush out mucus and irritants from the nose, which can be especially beneficial during sinus congestion.
Relieving Nasal Irritation: Saline nasal sprays can help reduce nasal irritation caused by various factors, including allergens, pollutants, dry air, or the common cold. They can help soothe and moisturize the nasal lining.
Safe and Non-Addictive: Saline nasal sprays are considered safe for regular use and are non-addictive. They do not contain medications like decongestants or antihistamines, making them suitable for frequent use without the risk of dependence or rebound congestion.
Usage: To use a saline nasal spray, you typically insert the nozzle into one nostril while keeping the other nostril closed and gently spray the solution. Then repeat the process for the other nostril. Follow the specific instructions on the product for the correct usage.
Suitability: Saline nasal sprays are suitable for people of all ages, including children and adults. They are particularly useful for individuals experiencing sinus congestion, allergies, or dry nasal passages.
Storage and Shelf Life: Saline nasal sprays should be stored according to the instructions on the product packaging. Most have a recommended shelf life after opening, and it's important to discard the spray after this period.
It's important to note that while saline nasal sprays can provide relief from nasal symptoms, if you have specific medical conditions or severe symptoms, consulting a healthcare professional is advisable.

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the expiration date |
Answer: | I ordered mine in December 2018, expiration date on mine is January 2020. |
Question: | Are these meant to be used again and again, or is there a shelf life or a maximum number of times you should use |
Answer: | I have been using a saline spray like this for many years. Durning the late fall and winter months my nose gets very dry and congested. A spray like this helps a lot. They have an expiration date of about two years. I have continued to use for longer than that with no issues. As long as there is only one user I don't see a problem of using until the product is used up. If you have had a very serious infection, you might want to replace sooner or if it is contaminated is some way. |
Question: | Where is this product made |
Answer: | We received the following information in an email from Perrigo, the manufacturer and distributor of "Basic Care Saline Nasal Spray": "The Nasal spray is made in the United States by our company. Our main site is in Allegan, Michigan. If a product is made outside of United States it has to be listed on labeling per government regulations. The saline nasal spray contains the following ingredients which should be listed on the labeling: Purified Water, Sodium Chloride 0.65%, Disodium Phosphate, Phenylcarbinol, Monosodium Phosphate, Benzalkonium Chloride." |
Question: | does expire after open |
Answer: | Yes, the one I recently received expires in little over a year. 2/20. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be refilled |
Answer: | No it can’t be refilled. |
Question: | Where do you find glass one? This looks like metal or plastic |
Answer: | I would have no idea where to find a glass one. This one is tin, I think, or light metal. The container is not plastic, but the top applicator piece is. |
Question: | What is the sodium concentration level of this saline wash |
Answer: | The container does not specify the ratio of purified water to sodium chloride. |
Question: | How does it compare to simply saline, better or worse |
Answer: | Very effective. Will continue purchasing. Helps with smoke in the air. |
Question: | Can this raise blood pressure |
Answer: | As always check with your doctor but this should not raise your blood pressure. All this is is Saline. There is no medicine at all. It is used to rinse and provide moisture to your nasal passages. I used this with my grandkids. |
Question: | What are the ingredients? There is no picture of that part of the can |
Answer: | Isotonic, sterile saline solution INGREDIENTS: Water, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate. |
Question: | Is the water in this “purified”? It’s not safe to use unless it’s been purified. Please advise |
Answer: | It is the ultimate of safe, not only pure, but sterile and being in a pressurized aerosol can, it remains sterile to the last drop. Any other kind of saline bottle can easily have sterility compromised soon after opening because ambient air can get in and microbes with it. Pressurized cans are the only type of saline I trust. By the way, I'm a chemist with 40 years experience and who has owned an analytical laboratory for 21 years. |
Question: | Why was i charged a high shipping fee when i spent the required $25 or more?? Thank you |
Answer: | Amazon is a platform which the free shipping is for the qualifying item. LOOK at who the seller is. Any one given product could have more than 3 stores selling the same item. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Mine runs out my nose. Is this supposed to mist |
Answer: | It's a mist going in. You can verify that by squirting some into the air. You are not expected to "put your head down" as another person says, to do this. It's far from a waste of money, PeninTx. If you do it 1-2-3 times per day, like upon getting up and before going to bed or when you get into the house from outdoor chores. If you are prone to sinus infections, congestion, and flares, you will surely reduce your incidence of them if you are regular and persistent in your use of saline nasal irrigation. NEVER us with tap water, mind you. Better to use the premixed packets to the correct strength per measure of clean water than to guess and mess around with salt, which is no longer recommended, whatever people of a certain age did as children "sniffing up salt water" for congestion. Today, it's distilled or boiled water only. Use the saline mix packets. They're inexpensive and convenient. I prefer the bottle to the "pot" if I use anything other than this mist version. Read the literature on the hazards of tap water and incorrect saline solution, available in scary detail all over. Please check our this answer to another questioner: Some is going to run out. Gravity does that. The path into your sinuses is not straight up. Insert the nozzle into your nostril so that you angle the business end where the mist comes out toward the outside corner of the eye on that side of your face (same side as the nostril you are shooting the solution into). If you use a saline bottle with purified water, it's the same: you angle the nozzle toward the outside corner of the eye to get the solution up into the sinuses. After doing this you can hang down as if you were going to touch your toes (if you can do that safely) to get more solution up higher. Some will come out when you straighten up. I've been at this for over 20 years with one appliance or another and it will curb your sinus problems enough to make the trouble worth it is my experience. |
Question: | I can't seem to get it just to mist and moisturize my nostril area,it just runs straight out.Do you hold can tilted or straight and head straight just |
Answer: | I hold my head straight up. I use enough that it runs out and I use a tissue then to wipe my nose. I feel the more I get up in the nostril the better. Remember, it's safe it's just a saline solution, salt water won't hurt you, well on a cut it will, but not up your nose. It really helps clear you nose. I used sleep apnea machine and my nose gets clogged and sore, the solution really helps. good luck |
Question: | Does this have baking soda in it and does it have the long nozzle like in your picture |
Answer: | I got the giant size and it appears to have baking soda (listed as sodium bicarbonate). I have the Nasal Mist and use it everyday. I love it. I no longer have to use prescription nasal sprays and I am very clear now, even all night!! Yes, it does have a long nozzle on it and it is quite comfortable to use. This is great. |
Question: | What is the difference between this product and Simply Saline Adult Nasal Mist, Allergy and Sinus |
Answer: | Allergy sinus has a stronger saline content 3.0... regular Simply Saline is 1.5.... The Allergy Sinus is more for runny nose ... It helps to dry out your sinuses... Simply Saline regular is for stuffy, dry congestion...I get Sinus Infections quite easily, so I use the Simply Saline to irrigate and loosen congestion which in turn cuts down on my yearly Sinus infections by easily 80%.. worth every penny and has improved my overall health by not taking so many antibiotics... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the cap be removed? Yes or no |
Answer: | On the ingredients list it lists the aloe as(=barbadensis ). I don’t know what that is but I do know that this works better for me than any other nose drops I tried. |
Question: | I bought the "hypertonic spray" by accident, and it's too strong. Is this the same thing |
Answer: | So the plastic you push down on to have it spray is connected until use. Meaning there is small extra piece that is suppose to break. You see and hear it snap if looking, and will notice it takes slightly more pressure first use. |
Question: | Can the cap be removed so that I can add something to the contents? Or empty the contents |
Answer: | USA |
Question: | What is the country of manufacture? Where is this made |
Answer: | Mine did not come sealed and I didn’t think anything of it and used it but as soon as I was done I realized it wasn’t sealed and now I’m worried. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello, my spray nozzle all of sudden stopped working. Can I get a replacement |
Answer: | Yes, it really helps with sinus congestion, so less headaches! |
Question: | How do you open the nozzle |
Answer: | From the Web:Use pickling, Kosher, or canning salt-containing no iodide, anti-caking agents or preservatives. Potential allergens (such as iodine) or contaminants (algae, etc.) are to be avoided in the salt. Table salt frequently is iodized, while sea salt may contain algae or other contaminants. |
Question: | What are the ingredients? Does it have preservatives |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. The packaging for our Simply Saline nasal mist products is BPA free. |
Question: | Does Pharmapacks have a product illustration in English |
Answer: | Oh! a little baking soda is good and nice to add to your saline rinse! I've been using salt and baking soda for years for saline rinsing with my neti pot. My understanding and experience is that the sodium bicarbonate buffers the solution to make it closer to your sinus pH, and more gentle on your sinuses. I swear by it! Occasionally I'll mix it myself. But I primarily use pre-mixed packets from Neilmed or other suppliers who all use the same ingredients. It's the way to go! Here are a few examples: 1. NeilMed Sinus Rinse - Premixed packets 2. Saline Packets - Sinus Wash from Target 3. Walgreens Saline Packet Refills |
