11 best nasal spray for runny nose
Nasal sprays for runny noses are commonly used over-the-counter medications designed to alleviate symptoms associated with allergies, colds, and sinus congestion. These sprays are categorized under Allergy Medicine, Allergy Sinus Asthma, OTC Medications Treatments, and are often found in the Health Care and Health Household sections of pharmacies and stores. Here are some general points about nasal sprays for runny noses:
Decongestant Properties: Nasal sprays for runny noses often contain decongestant agents like oxymetazoline or phenylephrine. These substances work by narrowing blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing swelling and congestion.
Antihistamine Formulations: Some nasal sprays include antihistamine medications like azelastine. Antihistamines block the effects of histamine, a chemical released by the body during allergic reactions, helping to relieve symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, and itching.
Corticosteroid Nasal Sprays: These nasal sprays contain corticosteroid medications such as fluticasone or mometasone. Corticosteroids help reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, providing relief from symptoms like runny nose, congestion, and sneezing. They are particularly effective for allergic rhinitis.
Saline Nasal Sprays: Saline nasal sprays consist of sterile salt water and can help moisturize nasal passages. While they do not contain active medications, they can be effective in thinning mucus and reducing nasal congestion, providing relief from runny noses.
Proper Application: It's essential to follow the recommended dosage and application instructions provided on the nasal spray packaging. Overuse of nasal decongestant sprays can lead to a rebound effect, causing increased congestion when the medication wears off.
Temporary Relief: Nasal sprays for runny noses provide temporary relief from symptoms. They do not cure the underlying cause of the runny nose but can make it easier to breathe and alleviate discomfort.
Consultation with a Healthcare Professional: If the runny nose persists or worsens, it's important to consult a healthcare professional, especially if it is accompanied by other symptoms like fever, persistent cough, or sinus pain. They can help determine the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatments.
It's crucial to note that while nasal sprays can provide relief, they may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with certain medical conditions or those taking specific medications should consult a healthcare provider before using nasal sprays. Additionally, proper hygiene, such as regular handwashing, can help prevent the spread of infections that can cause runny noses.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone used this for nasal congestion due to a cold |
Answer: | Since this product is used to treat nasal congestion, sneezing & runny nose, regardless of why you have them, such as a cold, it will remedy them. Thank you for asking. Enjoy your weekend. Gregory |
Question: | is this the nasal spray that smells like orange blossoms and doesn't burn |
Answer: | This is my first time using Flonase and first impression is that it smells like a mixture of floral I cannot distinguish and compare to room freshener. I don't like air freshener at all frankly, so this scent annoys me every time I use this spray, but fortunately the scent doesn't last very long and I try to breathe through my mouth until it fades. Personally, I'm going back to taking allergy pills after this is gone as I have difficulty keeping it in my nose. I don't have this same issue as much with Himalayan Chandra which burns a little but reduces my swollen nasal tissues and works fast. Both I must blow my nose after, so this is an expensive experiment with Flonase since I cannot keep it in my sinuses without using a tissue to blow my nose afterward. I try to keep it, but get tired of breathing through my mouth and give in every time. |
Question: | Is this the same as the prescription version? Just as strong, same chemical makeup, etc |
Answer: | Same exact dosage as my prescription Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray USP. 50mcg per Spray. My prescribed bottle was for 120 metered sprays. |
Question: | how does this compare to afrin |
Answer: | Afrin is designed to shrink membranes to open passages and works in 15-45 min or less. Flonase is a benign steroid that starts working after 4 days of use to desensitize mucous membranes and helps with symptomatic itchy eyes. You might try Flonase and use Afrin as back up. Flonase does not create dependency. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any scent/smell to it? I had to quit Flonase because the flowery smell was too much |
Answer: | Great question! Our Door Shields were developed to hang from round door knobs and lever door handles. The current design will not work for closed loop handles. With that said, we are working on new designs every day so keep in touch! Thanks again for the question. Kevin |
Question: | Has anyone used Nasonex or Flonase before and then switched to Nasacort spray? How long or effective was Nasacort compared to the other other sprays |
Answer: | There are many different definitions of "preservative free" so this is a difficult questions to answer. Aquegel does NOT contain any additives used to protect against decay, discoloration, or spoilage. However, Aquegel does contain benzyl alcohol (less than 1%) which inhibits the growth of bacteria that may be inadvertently introduced into the container by the consumer. |
Question: | Does this help maxalliary sinuses? Could it be used after a sinus rinse; after that rinse has fully drained |
Answer: | On the box and on the container it states: Manufacturer for Aquegel Cosmetics, Erie, CO 80516. Hope this helps. |
Question: | I currently use flonese... is there a noticeable difference between the two? I think I use to use the prescription of this a couple years back |
Answer: | With a q-tip, never more than a half inch into your nostril. I put a healthy dab of Aquegel on theq-tip and rub it gently into my nostril.. |

Dulled Sense of Smell?
Nasal congestion and inflamed nasal passages make it harder for odors to reach olfactory receptor neurons (the part of your brain that allows you to smell).
Nasacort Spray relieves nasal allergy congestion to help you regain your sense of smell and enjoy the world of smells around you.
Food Tasting Blah?
When your nasal passages are congested or inflamed due to allergies, food doesn’t taste as flavorful. That’s because the brain understands flavor through taste and smell.
Relieve your nasal allergy congestion to help you savor every bite with Nasacort Allergy Spray.
Muffled Sounds?
It’s not your imagination … stuffering can dull how things sound. That’s because nasal allergycongestion can cause your eustachian tubes (the tubes that connect the middle ear and the back of the throat) to swell, which could affect that connection and how clearly you hear.
Stop the stuffering to help you hear more clearly during allergy season with Nasacort Nasal Spray.

User questions & answers
Question: | ingredientwhat are the other ingredients other than fluticasone propionate |
Answer: | Nope, I read the ingredients and no alcohol. I have had more relief in 4 days with this product than with anything else in a year. Just told my wife I'll buy the larger size soon. |
Question: | Is it a 2 pack |
Answer: | Yes, you can use this after toner. The purpose of toner is to bring the PH of your skin back up so it can better accept a moisturizer after cleansing. So it's perfect to use after toner. And on the jar it says the PH of this cream is 5.5, which is what your skin is naturally - just one of the reasons this cream is better than most. |
Question: | How does this compare to Flonase? It looks the same |
Answer: | No it is not medicated. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | It contains many natural ingredients that I've heard/read which have those specific properties. However, there's no conclusive data. I know in the medical field , there is medical grade honey that is used for wound healing. This does have honey in its ingredient list. However, it does not make those claims. It contains aloe, coconut oil, cocoa seed butter, shea butter, blue algae, olive oil, hemp seed oil , vitamin a,e,b5,b2, and c. It is really soothing, and I really do love it. It was really pain relieving on the problem eczema area on my hand. It hasn't healed it, but I also don't use it as frequently as I should. It definitely healed the new spots on my neck however. Hope this helps! |

Mucinex Sinus-Max Provides Triple Action Relief
When you’re fighting sinus pressure and a stuffy nose, Mucinex Sinus-Max Full Force Nasal Spray features a Concentrated Vapor Technology which delivers fast relief and lasts for 12 hours.
Nasal Congestion
The underlying cause of your stuffy nose is typically irritated or inflamed nasal mucus membranes and surrounding tissue as well as enlarged blood vessels. That stuffed up feeling that comes with congestion is mostly caused by this swelling combined with the thick mucus that may be stuck in your narrowed nasal passages, making it difficult to breathe through the nose.
Sinus Congestion
Your sinuses, the pairs of cavities in your skull that connect to your nasal passageways, are thinly lined with mucus membranes to keep the inside of your nose moist. Irritants like viruses can cause the mucus membranes to become inflamed, resulting in space restriction and accumulation of mucus in the sinus. This causes that uncomfortable feeling of sinus congestion.
Sinus Pressure
Irritants can cause inflammation of the mucus membranes lining your airways and swelling of the sinus tissues, leading to space restriction and decreased drainage of the sinus. This causes excess mucus buildup, putting pressure on the underlying tissues in your face and leading to that uncomfortable feeling of sinus pressure.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long does the 0.88 bottle last if you use it as directed |
Answer: | Our scratch protectors are packed in the PE bag, so the product package is flat 35 x 15 x 0.15". However, we do not know the carton size Amazon ships our products in. We received messages from our customers claiming shipping boxes are oversized, so we reported that to Amazon a couple of times. Unfortunately as far as we know nothing has changed in this matter. |
Question: | Does the active ingredient (cromolyn) come in any generic brands? This is immensely expensive and I'm wondering if generics exist |
Answer: | Hi Joel, Good question. CLAWGUARD Door Shields were designed to fit inside OR outside the door. Actually, we created the Original Door Shield for outside use, when our dog Foster wanted to come in from being outside in the backyard. For outside use, simply pop the Door Shield on the knob, bend slightly then close the door. Once the door is closed, the Door Shield will nestle firmly into place, protecting the most commonly targeted area on the door and door frame! Hope this helps! ~Kevin |
Question: | How does this product compare to Flonase in effectiveness |
Answer: | Yes! CLAWGUARD Door Shields were designed to be easily customized with household scissors. Cut to fit! Hope this helps!! |
Question: | whats the difference in this and steroid from doctors |
Answer: | If you had a good way to attach it, I think so. I used Command Velcro strips to attach it to a window and it works great. |

The NasalCrom Difference
Unlike most allergy medications, NasalCrom actually prevents nasal allergy symptoms from occurring in the first place. Nasal allergy symptoms like: runny/itchy nose, sneezing, and allergic stuffy nose.
Let’s start with the basics: nasal allergies happen when your body reacts to rid itself of some foreign substance in this case, airborne allergens such as pollen or pet dander.
When Allergies Attack
Here’s something you likely didn’t know: it’s not allergens themselves that cause your allergy symptoms (at least not directly). When allergens enter your nose, they attack cells called mast cells. If you’re allergic to those substances, your mast cells erupt, releasing histamines and other irritants. It’s those pesky substances that represent your body’s immune response which you get to experience as a runny nose or sneezing.
Many allergy medicines use an 'antihistamine' in an attempt to control the symptoms histamines and other irritants cause. But, by then, the horse of suffering has already left the metaphorical barn. NasalCrom is different.
All Hail Mast Cell Stabilization
Instead of waiting until after you’re already suffering symptoms, NasalCrom works to stabilize your nasal mast cells. This allows the mast cells to better maintain their integrity, minimizing the release of histamines and other irritants preventing your nasal allergy symptoms before they even start.
NasalCrom Today For A Better Nose Next Week
To enjoy the full preventative power of NasalCrom, it’s important to note that you should start using NasalCrom a week or two before you expect to encounter problematic allergens.
Fortunately, NasalCrom will still provide relief while it builds up full protection against further symptoms.
