Answer:	Amy, You may have been given misinformation. For ketones to show it typically takes 2-3 days of NO CARBS or no more than 15-25 grams of carb total per day. Intermittent fasting does not work on a truly ketogenic diet. Also, it’s best to measure first thing in the morning when you use the bathroom. Your body is using ketones (fat) as the primary fuel source of fuel and energy during the day so testing is quite inaccurate. So if your doing intermittent diet, you will never see the correct color. On a side note, I don’t care for this brand anyhow as very difficult to see the darker strips. Hope this helps.

Keto Diet & Testing: The Science Behind Ketosis

The body converts carbohydrates to sugar (glucose) which is used for fuel, left-over fuel is stored as fat. If carbs are restricted by a low-carb diet, fasting, or even prolonged exercise, blood sugar will fall and the body will begin to burn stored fat as a means of fuel. This physiological state is called Ketosis.

During ketosis, fatty acids are released from fat deposits and circulated through the bloodstream. When they enter the liver they are converted into ketones. The ketones are then delivered to tissues and organs by the bloodstream where they are metabolized for energy.

Certain types of ketones are captured by the kidneys and discharged from the body through urine. Ketone urine test strips can be used to detect ketone levels. If the levels are above 1.0 mmol/l, the body is in ketosis and burning fat.

Keto-adaptation is the process the body goes through as it changes from using primarily glucose for energy to using fat.Once sugar becomes depleted, organs begin the process of adapting to using ketones as its main fuel. This transition may cause a period of fatigue, weakness, lightheadedness, "brain fog," headaches, irritability, muscle cramps, and nausea. After 4-5 weeks the body will adapt to the new fuel source and become keto-adapted.

Ketone Urine Test Strips only measure the acetoacetate type of ketones and are primarily used by diabetics and low-carb dieters. This type of ketone is not readily usable by the body so it is dumped out through urine. Those just starting on the keto diet will see a higher level of urine ketones compared to once the body keto-adapts. This is because fewer ketones are discarded as they will be used for fuel.

Don’t be discouraged when this happens, you are still in ketosis. However, you will see faint lower values and more faint shades of pink/purple on the urine test strips. If you drop out of ketosis and re-enter you will see an increase in ketone levels for a period, just like when the diet was first started.

3 Things That You May Not Know About the Keto Diet

1. The Keto Diet Wasn’t Originally Developed for Weight Loss. In the 1920s, the Keto Diet was developed to treat epilepsy. Since then, it’s been used for medical treatments on and off, including for diabetes.

2. This Diet is Extra Low Carb Compared to Other Options. For the keto diet to work, your body has to be deprived of carbs so that it will burn fat for fuel. Ketone levels in urine do not necessarily match with ketone levels in blood. Ketone urine concentration changes depending on hydration levels. You should test yourself 3 times a day when starting out on the keto diet (morning, afternoon & night) with the most important test being in the morning when you wake up.

Answer:	I test once a day and have this concern too. I put all but about 25 strips at a time into a small ziplock bag with as little air in as possible, and keep that in one of my old empty test strip bottles. That helps limit the bagged strips’ exposure to air and light as I only open that ziplock bag a few times instead of 100 times, and I use up the loose ones quickly. I believe it did extend their life because I am now down to the last few and they are working about as well as when I first opened the bottle, which I bought in January and it is now May.

Answer:	Ketone strips measure ketone levels from urine, not blood glucose levels. My understanding is that, when a dog's blood sugar is high, there is a risk of elevated ketones that may harm the dog. The BG meter we use for our dog warns us to check the ketone level once the blood sugar level exceeds a certain number. However, in 4.5 years of treating ours for diabetes, her BG has been over 600 rarely but she has never had more than mildly elevated ketones a couple of times and moderately only once. Check all this with your vet of course.

Answer:	No they are not individually wrapped. There is a plastic container inside the box and the sticks are loose inside. They work well.

Answer:	The box I have does not list them. The product is not for internal consumption. The sticks detect the presence of acetoacetic acid (ketone) in liquids, and were designed specifically for urinalysis.

Question:	when do you know when your in ketois what color should the strip be in
Answer:	Wet the strip in your urine stream, count to 15, and compare the color with the spectrum of colors on the bottle. It's easy, it works. If the strip does not change color, you are not in ketosis, that is a conclusive answer.Also, I think people assume the darker the color the better the "low-carb" result, but that isn't the case. The dark color means you're stressing your kidneys and need to drink more water, not that you're burning more fat. Trying to get a dark color, or assuming the color should be darker if you eat few carbs is wrong. The color will be darker if you haven't had enough water.
Question:	After the caffeine wears off what happens
Answer:	When I take it (once a day) it gives me energy, but if I stop or miss a day I feel heavy and slow. Hope this helps.

Question:	When do we test and what exactly are we looking for? Been doing Wildfit for 90 days and my test early this afternoon was the light pink. Thank you
Answer:	Not to bash anyone who has previously answered this question, however Darker is only a part of the answer. Real Answer: Darker, then lighter. The reason I say this is that test strips only show the amount of ketones your body ISN'T using, so how it really works is. 1. when you fist start trying to get into ketosis the strips should be light because your body isn't really producing many ketones. 2. the strips will get darker as your body starts producing more Ketones but cant effectively use them, so you excrete most of them. 3. the strips will get lighter after your body learns to use ketones and now you excrete less of them. Hopefully that Explains how Keto urinalysis strips works. Long story short, they only pick up what your body isn't using, so when you are using ketones the strips wont be dark anymore.

Answer:	I think “consistent time” is more important than “best time.” That being said I usually test first thing in the morning.

Answer:	I believe it’s 90 days opened and 2 years unopened.

Answer:	The only purpose of the desiccant is to keep the strips dry or as moisture free as possible. If the desiccant strip bothers you, put the bottle in the refrigerator. The refrigerator removes all moisture over time, hence your lettuce shriveling, green peppers shriveling, exposed food drying out. Haven't you ever noticed that your ice cubes shrink over time in the freezer? The appliance is pulling moisture out of the interior. I have used test strips left in the refrigerator years later without any problem. If you leave the strips out in the atmosphere without the desiccant strip, they will absorb moisture and become ruined and unreliable.
Question:	what color is optimal ketosis
Answer:	Despite what many may argue - any ketones in your urine is a sign that you are in ketosis. The magnitude doesn't matter that much because it's a binary situation. Either you are burning glucose or you're burning fat... I'm a Biochemist and am looking for Some indication of ketones. That's all I need to know.
