Rigatoni pasta is a popular type of pasta that falls under the category of dried or non-perishable grocery items, often available in the frozen section of some grocery stores. Here's what you need to know about rigatoni pasta:

  1. Pasta Shape: Rigatoni pasta is characterized by its large, ridged, and cylindrical shape. The word "rigatoni" actually comes from the Italian word "rigato," which means "ridged" or "lined." These ridges and large diameter make rigatoni an ideal pasta choice for holding and capturing sauces.

  2. Ingredients: Like most pasta, rigatoni is typically made from durum wheat semolina and water. It is mixed into a dough, extruded through molds to create the ridged shape, and then dried. Some brands may offer variations that include whole wheat or gluten-free options.

  3. Versatility: Rigatoni is a versatile pasta that pairs well with a wide range of sauces. Its ridges help sauces adhere to the pasta, making it a great choice for hearty meat sauces, creamy Alfredo sauces, and chunky vegetable-based sauces.

  4. Cooking Instructions: To prepare rigatoni, you generally bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until it reaches your desired level of doneness.Cooking times may vary, but they typically range from 10 to 15 minutes. It's essential to follow the cooking instructions on the packaging for the best results.

  5. Frozen Rigatoni: While rigatoni is primarily available in the dried pasta section of grocery stores, some brands may offer pre-cooked and frozen rigatoni. These frozen options are convenient for quick and easy meals. They can be heated in the microwave or oven, and they often come with a variety of sauces.

  6. Recipes: Rigatoni is a key ingredient in numerous Italian and Mediterranean dishes. It's commonly used in baked pasta dishes like rigatoni al forno, where it's layered with sauce, cheese, and sometimes meat before being baked to perfection.

  7. Pairing Suggestions: Rigatoni pairs well with a variety of ingredients, such as tomato-based sauces with ground meat, creamy cheese sauces, and vegetables like eggplant and zucchini. It's also a favorite choice for pasta salads.

  8. Brand Varieties: Many different brands produce rigatoni pasta, and you can find both store brands and well-known pasta manufacturers offering this type of pasta. The quality and texture of rigatoni may vary slightly among brands.

Rigatoni pasta is a versatile and popular choice for pasta lovers due to its unique shape and ability to hold onto a variety of delicious sauces. Whether used in classic Italian recipes or as part of inventive culinary creations, rigatoni is a staple in the world of pasta and grocery gourmet food.

User questions & answers

Question: Does pasta rigatoni have soy
Answer: Hello, Our pasta products do not have any soy in the product or plant.
Question: What’s the expiry date on these
Answer: I really don't care. Pasta? hmm. Good for ages.
Question: It says pack of 12 for $23.88. Is that 12, 9 oz boxes or 12 noodles in a 9 oz box
Answer: It is 12 boxes
Question: How many noodles are in the box
Answer: Hi, Sharon! I had no idea how many were in the box, so I opened another and counted (all I knew at that point was that there was a LOT of pasta in there!) Turns out there are nineteen strips, ten inches long x two and one quarter inches wide (2 1/4")- perfect for my new 3" deep lasagna pan with a tiny bit of overlap on each strip! hint- try to use a pan when boiling where the strips can lay fully cross-wise with plenty of room; and hint #2, salt your water until you think it is a little bit too salty by tasre, then add a little MORE salt (this is the only time the pasta can be seasoned). I cook mine seven minutes at a rolling boil, then directly into cold water. Good luck, and ENJOY1 JBH

De Cecco Pasta, Rigatoni, 16 oz

De Cecco

Based on 4 reviews Check latest price

Product description

De Cecco gently grinds the heart of each grain, mixes it with cold spring water, then kneads the dough slowly. This results in pasta with the exceptional de Cecco aroma, flavor, and consistency. Pasta easily cooks to perfection, has a great firm texture, and a delicious “fresh” pasta taste. It has a rougher surface, which helps the sauce stick to it. Since 1886 we have liked our pasta to be bronze drawn and slowly dried because we like it to fall into the plate full of taste, rough and always "al dente". Even though our taste has not changed, as we feel the same love for tradition, we have continued to improve our production technologies. Make de Cecco pasta the secret ingredient for your most amazing dishes.Buon Appetito! Historically, official mention of the term "spaghetto" can be traced back to the first dictionary of the Italian language by Nicolò Tommaseo and Bernardo Bellini (1819). The word "spaghetto" was included as the "masculine singular diminutive of spago (thread)" and mention is made of "Minestra di Spaghetti" (spaghetti soup) which is pasta the size of a long, thin thread such as sopracapellini". An interesting fact: in 1957, the BBC aired the first documentary on the production of spaghetti and the day after, the television studios were inundated by phone calls from viewers asking for the name of the producers and distributors of spaghetti so they could buy some. Spaghetti is so versatile that it can be served with any condiment, from fish to meat, from vegetables to cheese, but is also excellent served just with extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkling of parmesan. Available in 16.0 oz and 5 lb pack.

  • Contains 1-16 oz box
  • Good source of protein, thiamin, folic acid, iron, riboflavin, and niacin
  • No GMO, no trans fat, no saturated fat, no sugar added. Kosher.
  • Cooking time: 12 min - Al dente: 10 min
  • Made in Italy

User questions & answers

Question: Is this for 1 box, or 20 boxes
Answer: I have been trying to determine that for years. Some say it’s to pair up certain pastas with certain sauces. Others say it has to do with manufacturing the pastas, as in earlier times laborers didn’t always speak Italian and it was easy to assimilate numbers with certain pastas that they were going to make for the day! Wish I could be more helpful.
Question: What are the #' listed with each, i.e. 9, 8, 4, etc
Answer: Rather doubt it. It's not gluten free. Delicious pappardelle noodle which is wider and thicker than fettuccine. This is my preferred brand of pasta. The flavor and texture is always good but I suspect if you have a problem digesting wheat this noodle will be a problem for you. Have you tried Pad Thai Rice noodles?
Question: Is this pasta easier to digest than pasta produced in the U.S
Answer: If that is the case, it would be good to go to your local market if you can. Otherwise report price gouging or figure the cost of bringing it to you.
Question: Why is this 400% higher than my local supermarket
Answer: They are little balls of noodles about 3" across. They can be used as a whole or broken off by the ball and soaked in very warm water before being used in a recipe.

De Cecco Pasta, Rigatoni

Rigatoni, which is a typical type of traditional pasta from Rome, have the characteristic ridged external surface and a large diameter and thickness. The shape is particularly versatile and is perfect with a variety of tomato or vegetable sauces, but the best condiments are sauces made from meat: slow-cooked sauces with meat and mushrooms, made from beef and pork, sausage or giblets. The recipe with pajata (calf intestines) is a classic dish. Any type of sauce that is sufficiently liquid to get inside the pasta and be trapped by the ridges is recommended.

Question: Why has the price of this gone up $22 in three months? I bought in December for $44/20 pack

User questions & answers

Question: I see questions from a year ago on this item. Are these boxes always fresh
Answer: It's a case. So there are 12 boxes but they don't seem to weigh 12lbs when all together in the case. Maybe the weight refers to after cooked? It's just a standard size box that you would buy at the supermarket and if you like this kind of pasta are you will definitely have enough to last you for a good long while.
Question: pack means 12x1lb? So 12lbs of pasta
Answer: no
Question: Is this gluten free
Answer: Our grocery store is about the same price
Question: Why are you charging $3 for a 16oz box of Mostaccioli
Answer: I would like to know this as well. The type of extrusion makes a difference in the texture of the pasta. A bronze die extrusion will give a tougher texture that the sauce doesn’t just slide off of. I have no idea why people answer questions if they have nothing of value to add. No one cares if you have no clue.

Question: what does alla chitara mean
Answer: I guess it depends on your definition of fresh . . . they are dried pasta not fresh pasta. If you are asking if they are past the best by date when you receive them, I'd say no. User questions & answers

Question: How many carbs & fiber per serving
Answer: Sheets of fresh pasta dough are pressed thru a set of closely spaced wires (sort of like a guitar) producing strands of spaghetti that are “ squarish ” in cross section. After they are dried they cook like regular round spaghetti and hold whatever sauce you are using somewhat better than the round variety. They are hard to find in my market area, but I really prefer them and will “stock-up” whenever I find them.
