14 best green tea matchas

Green tea matcha, often referred to simply as matcha, is a unique and highly concentrated form of green tea that has gained popularity worldwide. Here's what you need to know about green tea matcha:

  1. Origin: Matcha is a type of green tea that originated in Japan and has been an integral part of Japanese culture for centuries. It is made from shade-grown tea leaves.

  2. Production Process: Matcha is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant used to make other green teas. However, what sets matcha apart is its production process. The tea leaves are grown in the shade for several weeks before harvesting, which increases their chlorophyll content and gives them a vibrant green color. After harvest, the leaves are steamed, dried, and ground into a fine powder, resulting in matcha.

  3. Unique Flavor: Matcha has a distinct and robust flavor, often described as earthy, grassy, and slightly sweet. It can have a slightly bitter taste, which is part of its charm.

  4. Versatile Uses: Matcha can be used in various culinary applications. It is commonly used to make traditional Japanese tea (called "chanoyu" or "chado"), where the matcha powder is whisked with hot water to create a frothy beverage. Additionally, matcha is used in baking, smoothies, ice cream, and various other recipes to impart its unique flavor and green color.

  5. Health Benefits: Matcha is highly regarded for its potential health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which are believed to have various health-promoting properties.Matcha also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that may have calming effects and promote mental alertness.

  6. Energy Boost: Matcha contains caffeine, but unlike the caffeine in coffee, it is released slowly, providing a sustained energy boost without the jitteriness and crash associated with some other sources of caffeine.

  7. Detoxification: Matcha is often associated with detoxification due to its high chlorophyll content and potential antioxidant properties. Some people incorporate matcha into their detox or cleansing routines.

  8. Grade Levels: Matcha comes in different grades, which are determined by the quality of the tea leaves used and the production process. Ceremonial-grade matcha is the highest quality and is used for traditional tea ceremonies, while culinary-grade matcha is more suitable for cooking and blending.

  9. Color and Appearance: High-quality matcha is vibrant green and finely ground, while lower-quality matcha may have a duller color and coarser texture.

  10. Storage: Matcha is sensitive to light, heat, and air, so it should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to preserve its freshness and flavor.

Green tea matcha is not only appreciated for its unique taste but also for its potential health benefits and versatility in culinary creations. It has become a beloved ingredient in various dishes and beverages beyond traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have caffeine in it? Thanks
Answer: Yes it does! Each half-teaspoon (1 gram) serving of Matcha contains roughly 25-35mg of caffeine, which is approximately one-third the caffeine of a cup of brewed coffee. Matcha is easily tolerated by many people for whom coffee makes them jittery because all of the other components that make up Matcha in effect slow down the release of caffeine into the body. It typically takes a good three to six hours for this minimal amount of caffeine to be absorbed into the bloodstream, and yet the mindfulness effects are apparent almost immediately upon drinking it.In other words, Matcha doesn't make you feel jittery or wired like coffee can tend to -- it can actually help you relax.Great question Yani - thanks so much for writing in! Please let me know if we can answer anything else. -EmmaEmma LeeCustomer HappinessJade Leaf Organics
Question: Is it sweetened
Answer: No, there is absolutely nothing added...each bag contains 100% USDA Organic, all natural, stone ground matcha green tea powder :) You can certainly sweeten it up though with the sweetener of your choice! Many of our customers prefer it that way in their lattes and smoothies.Great question Larissa - thanks so much for writing in! Please let me know if we can answer anything else. -EmmaEmma LeeCustomer HappinessJade Leaf Organics
Question: What is the difference from cafe grade and ceremonial grade matcha
Answer: Cafe grade is the worst kind. It is poor in color, taste, and nutrients. It is not meant for drinking, cooking only. -Mei Leaf Expert You Tube Channel
Question: Has it been tested for radiation
Answer: Absolutely -- our partner farm conducts regular lab tests on the soil, water, and plants to ensure our Matcha is 100% safe to consume, in addition to lab tests performed on the final product that we import (ensuring that not only is there no radiation concern, but also that no heavy metals or other contaminants are present). Product safety is the most important issue for Jade Leaf Organics, and we take every precaution to ensure it. The Uji, Kyoto region where our Matcha is sourced is very far south of the site of the Fukushima incident in 2011, one of the furthest growing regions from the location of the incident, and detailed soil and plant analyses conducted even the year of the disaster showed no signs of radiation contamination. To be clear, our growing region was NEVER affected by the incident. Now, 4 years later, Japan has since lifted all restrictions on crops (even ones grown near Fukushima). Please let us know if there is any other information we can provide...we're here to help.Emma LeeJade Leaf Organics

By Hiroshi Family Farms

Our family farms have been growing the highest quality, premium Matcha Tea since the 13th Century. Most people don’t know this, but it’s true. Matcha Green Tea originated in the high mountains of China and not Japan. Japanese Matcha Tea is a relatively new phenomena.

Certified Organic Matcha.

Hunan district is the birthplace of tea in China. Jishin Shounin, high priest of Kaijuusen Temple, introduced tea tree seeds from China to Wazuka, Uji District in the 13th century. The tea cultivated here was the first official tea of the Imperial Palace.

It was here that MatchaDNA personally selected Hiroshi, a local family tea farmer to provide exclusive organic Matcha green tea from his Estate to MatchaDNA.This tea is carefully harvested for MatchaDNA exclusively by Hiroshi, his brother and wife. Our family farm is at a high altitude, away from chemical usage on lower grown tea gardens.

MatchaDNA Matcha tea is Culinary Grade – the very highest quality of culinary grade Matcha green tea in China or Japan.

Hiroshi has a reputation of being a maverick tea cultivator using secret family organic compost comprised of local herring and tea tree trimmings to produce the finest tasting green tea without any chemicals. Fewer than 10% of China’s tea gardens are certified organic. All of this exclusive organic Matcha is harvested for MatchaDNA.

Highest Potency, Over 10x Antioxidants Of Brewed Green Tea

This tea is grown under the shade of blanket canopies forcing the tender leaves to produce a deep, dark color fortified with flavor and nutrients.

Only the new leaves are picked from the top of the bush, and must be harvested within 45 minutes before the sun can lighten the color of the leaves.

MatchaDNA Matcha is a prized, naturally dark green color. Drinking fresh Matcha is like taking a multivitamin super-food filled with antioxidants, B-complex, Vitamins C, B1, B2 E, beta carotene, iron, calcium and amino acids to support a healthy body.

User questions & answers

Question: Does ANYBODY know the antioxidant content when brewing one single bag? The Bigelows don't respond on their website, twitter, facebook, etc
Answer: Green tea contains compounds called catechins (a subset of a group of compounds called polyphenols) that in test tube studies show antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, antitumorigenic, and antimicrobial properties. The main catechin found in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Consumer Lab did a study on many popular green teas and found Bigelows to have 25.0 mg EGCG and 60.9 mg total catechins. Bigalow organic and decaf green teas were higher. This compares to Lipton Green Tea that had the highest of all tested at 71.1 mg EGCG and 188.1 mg total catechins. Hope this helps.
Question: Is this organic
Answer: I am not sure. I know Bigelow has a good reputation in the market.
Question: What is the country of origin for this tea? Where's it grown
Answer: I only drink the Earl Grey Green Tea. The Bergamot oil comes from Calabria Italy but nothing is mentioned where the green tea is grown. Sorry
Question: pack means 6 boxes with 40 tea bags in each
Answer: 6 packs means 6 boxes with each box containing 20 individually wrapped bags. I have ordered this MANY times.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you make macarons with this
Answer: This bag contains roughly 10oz of powdered matcha (it takes up almost all of the bag's interior space, using the last bag I received as a point of reference). I've spoken with people who do make tea out of it and enjoy it at least as much as other varieties of matcha, including "ceremonial grade" matcha, but I use it exclusively for smoothies, as my interest is less about the pomp and circumstance of tea ceremonies and more about the prospective health benefits.
Question: Where can I get the probiotics matcha
Answer: there is about 34 mg of caffeine in each teaspoon of Matcha tea powder.
Question: What is the caffeine content
Answer: Organic Ceremonial Matcha is made especially for the traditional Japanese and Chinese tea ceremonies. It is supposed to be the best grade so that it is suitable for the cultural ceremonies.
Question: does it taste like the starbucks latte green tea ??? or something different
Answer: Each batch of MatchaDNA matcha green tea powder is tested for Lead and other heavy metals by an independent 3rd party laboratory called Eurofins to ensure the high standards we require on our teas. Our teas are also USDA Certified Organic and packaged in Certified BPA-Free foil bags.

Cafe Style Sweetened Matcha Latte Mix

Up to now, latte mixes we were finding at the grocery store were all full of weird emulsifiers and artificial ingredients. We believe all a latte truly needs is good quality matcha and a little sweetness, to which you add your own fresh milk (whichever kind you like!). So we kept our mix that simple, just two ingredients: organic matcha and organic, unrefined cane sugar. Nothing else added.

  • USDA Organic
  • Dairy Free, Gluten-Free, GMO-Free
  • Mixes easily
  • Lightly sweet and delicious!

Hot Matcha Lattes

Whisk or shake 2 tsp of mix with 2oz of cool water, then pour into 6-10oz of hot frothed milk (plant based or dairy).

Iced Matcha Lattes

Whisk or shake 2 tsp of mix with 2oz of cool water, then pour over 6-10oz of iced milk (plant based or dairy).

Matcha Frappes

Add 1 to 2 tbsp of mix to a blender with ice and half and half for a creamy treat! Get creative and add over a fruity base, like this popular strawberry "pink drink".

Product description

Where Bigelow Tea Tea Tea Tea was born sometime in 1942 or '43, my Mom and Dad decided they wanted to start a tea business. At the time, We lived in a small apartment in Manhattan. They felt strongly that, for the company to be a success, they needed a home where they could begin. Searching the local streets, they found a brownstone, just off of second Avenue, which was in terrible disrepair. Optimistic, they bought it with the last of their life savings, and replanted and repainted it themselves. It was in this home in 1945, where my Mom and Dad opened The doors to the new Bigelow Tea Tea Tea Tea company. Little could they have imagined that their dream would one day grow to be America's #1 specialty tea company!

User questions & answers

Question: What are your tea bags made out of? Do they leach chemicals into the tea
Answer: Hey. Thanks for the question. PureChimp Matcha is not organic. But organic methods are used when it comes to pesticides.
Question: Do the tea bags come individually packaged or are all the tea bags loose
Answer: Based on some digging online from people who have emailed H&S, it seems that at least one of the flavorings is cinnamaldehyde, a pure version of an oil found in cinnamon and used to give cinnamon candies and cinnamon flavored gum a spicy, sweet flavor. It is possible that is what is the source of the sweetness. Because it is classified as a flavoring and not a sweetener, they can label it as a flavoring.
Question: Does this help, burn fat ? and help boost metobolism
Answer: The individual packaged tea bags came in a Red and olive green cardboard box, count of 50 bags. This tea along with the Earl Grey tea we purchased, were packed in another container, well packed and labeled. Harney and Sons always provide superior products. I hope this info is what you were looking for.
Question: where is tea grown and made in? what does the box say? thanks a lot
Answer: Peppermint leaves only. 100% peppermint leaves.

User questions & answers

Question: On a scale from 1 - 10 how earthy tasting is this
Answer: Well, to be honest, I haven't used a 20-count tea sachet in so long that I don't remember what they taste like. I've been buying the 50-count box because it was such a better deal. I can tell you this, I have never been disappointed in the tea bags in the 50-count box.
Question: Is there and sugar or sweetener in it
Answer: The box says that the tea is a blend of 1st and 2nd flushes. I find it to be a bit too light for my taste. The box also reads that the strength is 2 out of 4.
Question: What’s the origin of this brand I get it says from Japan but where
Answer: this was a gift for a stressed out friend, but I believe they are in little bags-
Question: Is it organic
Answer: It is a milder black tea. More suitable for a light afternoon tea. Very good!

User questions & answers

Question: Does Organic Green Matcha have cafeen in it
Answer: Absolutely. Each crop is tested for contaminants by the farms, and then we test the imported matcha using two independent laboratories here in the U.S. -- Anresco Laboratories and Certified Laboratories. The most recent reported levels were no lead detected below the detection limit of 1ppm (part per million). We additionally test for the full spectrum of common heavy metals (Arsenic, Cadmium, and Mercury) as well as Fluoride, and similarly these were not detected below the detection limit of 1ppm.We additionally have the labs perform radiation tests and use a gross Alpha/Beta/Gamma test that comprehensively detects radiation contamination (as opposed to testing for just the most common radioactive isotopes, which is all most brands do). All crops have passed these tests with no traces of contamination.Great question -- safety of our products is a top priority of ours. Happy to answer any other questions! -EmmaEmma LeeCustomer HappinessJade Leaf Organics
Question: Are the plain matcha tea bags compostable (or at least biodegradable)? Reviews are mixed...or it just might be different for the flavored ones
Answer: i asked the same question to the Bigelow and they mailed the below answer.est assured, our tea bag paper, is made from abaca fibers and wood pulp and is 100% biodegradable. It is an oxygenated process which leaves the paper dioxin and chlorine free.As a family company, your safety and confidence in our company means everything to us.We hope this information is helpful in responding to your inquiry. The Bigelow Family thanks you for choosing Bigelow Teas.
Question: What's the best temperature for brewing? Package says 212, matcha is usually 175, this is mostly green tea
Answer: I have only purchased the "Mango" tea, which is my favorite, in which all the tea bags are individually packaged. I would imagine they are packaged the same in this, but since I never bought it that I can remember that's the best help I can give you. Have a nice day.
Question: How much caffeine is in the LIpton Matcha green tea
Answer: Here are a couple of links to help you out: http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/benefit_of_drinking_green_teahttp://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02914/How-to-Boost-Green-Tea-Benefits.htmlhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/20/green-tea-benefits-health_n_1988290.htmlI know that I do not feel as hungry or get as many cravings for junk food when I drink it consistently. User questions & answers

Question: How many servings in the 17.5 oz bag
Answer: Hi there, Not to fear, there is no other ingredient in it other than ground tea leaves in all our matcha. The reason why matcha is called a blend is because each tea plant has its own unique flavors and aromas. Different leaves from different tea plants (or different cultivars) are blended together to produce a unique taste. The tea master decides on a desired taste and "blends" the proportion of tea leaves from various plants/harvests to achieve the desired flavors and consistency. Regards, Naoki Matcha
Question: What grade/color is the matcha powder
Answer: Hey there! We provide 40% more matcha powder than the standard size provided by other brands, so you can expect about 35-40 servings per Naoki Matcha can. However, it also depends on how you consume it, if you use twice the recommended grams per serving (it's 1 gram per serving usually), then a can will last you 20 servings instead.HiroNaoki Matcha
Question: Are there nutrition facts
Answer: Hi Lee, it is made out of pure matcha (high-grade green tea powder), grown under special conditions for 30 days before being harvested and ground. This ceremonial grade is specifically made for consumption. Try it out!
Question: Is there an ingredient list for this
Answer: Hi there! Our matcha is tested regularly (To ensure safety) by a 3rd-Party New Zealand Laboratory for pesticides and have no suspicious results was observed. Similarly, the matcha is also tested for heavy metals such as Cadmium, Arsenic, Lead and Mecury with no observed suspicious result.

ABOUT MATCHA

WHAT IS MATCHA

Matcha is an ancient form of green tea unique to Japan and China. Instead of throwing out the leaves once the tea is brewed, Matcha is made from the whole green tea leaf, which is specially grown and ground into a finely-powdered form.

MATCHA ORIGIN

Matcha tea has a long history that dates back as far as the 11th century in Japan. It is thought that a Zen Monk by the name of Eisai brought green tea seeds from China and began planting the tea in monasteries. Believing the tea leaves had the ability to promote longevity and to cure certain ailments, Eisai would crush the leaves into a rough powder and drink them blended in water. This first form of matcha tea was considered a precious medicine and was only consumed by a select few. This matcha comes from China.

CAFFEINE CONTENT

Unlike other teas, which use tea bags or tea leaves that are removed from the hot water after steeping, matcha preparation involves consuming the ground tea leaves themselves. Because you are ingesting the entire green tea leaf, the caffeine content is much greater than green tea that is steeped.

On average, Matcha contains less than half the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee.

NATURAL BITTER TASTE

Not all people fell in love with matcha taste from the first sight. It’s the same experience as with coffee and tea- you begin to love it after few cups! Most people after drinking it for a few days start to crave the nutritious flavor of matcha. There are many variations of matcha. Each person needs to find his matcha match that meets his expectations.

Making latte, frappe, adding it to your favorite smoothie or baking goods is an excellent way to become accustomed to a new taste.

Answer: Hey. Thanks for the question. No added sugar or sweetener. Just pure 100% matcha tea :)

Answer: Hey. Thanks for the question. PureChimp Matcha is from the Kagoshima region in Japan :)

Farm Direct Organic Matcha from Japan

Matcha is produced across Japan, but we've found the very best organic matcha to be ground from tea leaves grown in the Uji and Kagoshima regions. Family-owned partner farms fuse traditional and modern techniques to cultivate leaves brimming with flavor and nutrients.

100% USDA Organic

True, authentic Japanese matcha that is certified organic is still in extremely scarce supply (less than 1% of Japanese tea farms are certified!) — and we have been carefully forming partnerships with the preeminent farms to be able to supply the best quality organic matcha for fair value.

Lab Tested for Integrity

We test our products both at the farms where they are grown, as well as by third party laboratories here in the U.S. Our quality standards were developed through a combination of state and federal guidelines as well as consultation with scientific research and analysis.

Premium Organic Ceremonial Matcha

Premium first harvest tea leaves are picked and carefully crafted into our Teahouse Edition Ceremonial Matcha, giving it a delightful, smooth flavor profile best appreciated when sipping as traditionally prepared tea.

Traditional Hot Matcha Tea

Sift 1/2 to 1 tsp of matcha into your bowl then add 2oz of cool water. Whisk until smooth froth forms. Add hot water (not over 170˚F) to taste (2-6oz).

Coldbrew Iced Matcha Tea

Add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of matcha, 2oz of cold water, and ice to a shaker. Shake vigorously until well mixed and frothy. Pour over 6-14oz of ice water (or juice for a sweet treat!)

Premium Matcha Lattes

Add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of matcha to 2oz of water and whisk or shake to mix. Pour over 6-12oz of your favorite milk (hot or iced) and sweeten if desired.

Our Promise to You

1) To provide premium quality, authentic Japanese organic matcha at a fair value.

2) To continue to improve our quality with each year's harvest, and innovate on new delicious, healthy blends and formats to enjoy matcha.

3) To stand by our products and honor our customers. If you don't have a good experience, just let us know and we'll make it right.
