12 best european coffees
European coffee culture is rich and diverse, with each country having its own unique approach to brewing and enjoying coffee. Here are some aspects related to ground coffee, beverages, and the overall coffee experience in Europe:
Espresso Culture:
- Italy is often considered the birthplace of espresso. Italian coffee culture revolves around short, strong shots of espresso.
- The traditional Italian espresso is a small, concentrated coffee served in a tiny cup.
Coffee Types:
- In many European countries, you'll find a variety of coffee options beyond the standard espresso, such as macchiato (espresso with a small amount of milk), cappuccino (espresso with equal parts of steamed milk and milk foam), and latte (espresso with a lot of steamed milk and a small amount of foam).
Coffee Roasting:
- European countries often have a preference for darker roasted coffee beans, which give a rich and intense flavor. However, preferences may vary from country to country.
Coffee Houses and Cafés:
- European cities are known for their cozy and historic coffeehouses where people gather to socialize, work, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee.
- Café culture is particularly strong in cities like Vienna, Paris, and Budapest.
Specialty Coffee:
- In recent years, there has been a growing interest in specialty coffee across Europe. This includes a focus on single-origin beans, specific brewing methods, and a more artisanal approach to coffee preparation.
Turkish Coffee:
- While not exclusive to Europe, Turkish coffee is popular in countries like Greece and parts of the Balkans. It involves finely ground coffee beans brewed with water and sugar (optional) in a special pot called a cezve.
Coffee and Socializing:
- Coffee in Europe is often associated with socializing and taking a break from the day. Cafés are places for people to gather, converse, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Coffee in Scandinavia:
- In Nordic countries like Sweden and Norway, filter coffee is commonly consumed. Scandinavians have a reputation for enjoying coffee in large quantities and have a strong tradition of "fika," a social coffee break.
Coffee Brands:
- European countries have their own iconic coffee brands, such as Lavazza (Italy), Illy (Italy), and Douwe Egberts (Netherlands).
Ground Coffee Selection:
- Ground coffee is widely available in supermarkets and specialty stores across Europe. There's a range of options, including blends and single-origin varieties.
Remember, the coffee culture can vary significantly from country to country within Europe, and these are just general observations. Each region has its unique twist on how coffee is enjoyed and appreciated.

User questions & answers
Question: | How can there be 3 pack if 17.6x2=35.2? when a three pack would 52.8 oz |
Answer: | Each pack is 17.6 so if two packs that’s 35.2 and if 3 pack is 52.8 |
Question: | How much coffee are you selling? Title says 3 x 17.6oz, description says total of 35oz, and shipping weight says 1 pound |
Answer: | It is 3-17.6oz vacuum packs |
Question: | How does Dallmayr coffee compare to the Gala coffee? Would you say they are equal quality, both being from Germany |
Answer: | I lived in Germany many years and found Eduscho Gala to be the best. Nothing was better than stopping at one of the Eduscho Kaffee Shops for a fresh cup on a rainy, cold German day. I know Dallmayr has a great reputation, but it was bland for my taste. I have learned to love Jacobs Kroenung , as well. However, both Gala and Jacobs have been disappointing recently. Either the coffee has changed or I need a new coffee maker. |
Question: | How does this brand compare to Jacob's Krönung coffee |
Answer: | Dallmayr is a bit higher quality brand than Jacobs. |

Question: | When is the expired date |
Answer: | The expiration date was labeled as March of 2017 for the package I'd purchased in June 2016. This vacuum sealed coffee has always been very fresh and has a terrific aroma. I've been buying this brand for many years, was never disappointed with the original roast shipped directly from Germany. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I recieved my 3 pack subscription today however one of the packages had lost its seal. What do I need to do to have it replaced |
Answer: | I have had the same problem with all shippers EXCEPT Jacobs as the shipper. It takes a lot of mishandling to break the seal and understand that it could happen but it seems that Jacobs knows how to handle their product and take care of their customers in doing so. I fell in love with this rich strong coffee, never bitter like American coffee, and you can tell by how much cream it takes to get the color and flavor you want! |
Question: | When is the exp. date of coffee |
Answer: | 09-2017 just received coffee 6-20 - 2016 |
Question: | Is this an import from germany? is it a german made or german style coffee |
Answer: | German import. It is the best coffee we have every tasted since going to Germany in 1980 while in the military. Thanks to Amazon and military commissaries, it's the only coffee we've drank for 38 years now! |
Question: | Is ground coffee the kind you just put in hot water, no filter or anything else? Or am I referring to instant coffee |
Answer: | You are thinking of instant coffee. This coffee requires a filter, but is best, I think, in a French Press. Delicious stuff! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does european blend compare with the italian espresso blend? i use the italian one now but thought to change it up |
Answer: | We enjoy this blend for breakfast. It's not bitterish like I find Italian espresso. It's dark and bold, but not bitter. This is all we buy now! Cheers! |
Question: | Roast date |
Answer: | Gives you a best used expiration date. I grind my own beans and have been pleased with this product. A good cup of coffee. |
Question: | Is this an oily bean |
Answer: | Yes, medium oily. I think all the Don Pablo coffees on Amazon are oily, whole bean...and amazing |
Question: | Is there a roast date on bag |
Answer: | Thanks for your question. The code on the bag is a "best by" date, and it is a year from when the coffee was roasted. We roast to order for Amazon, send them coffee every week, and maintain an inventory of less than 30 days, so if the coffee is being rotated properly, it should be within a few weeks (if not several days) of roasting. If you ever get one that is much older, contact us directly through Amazon and we will replace it. Thanks for your interest! |

Don Pablo's special blend of Colombia, Honduras, & Brazil is dark roasted to perfection to have a deep, rich and complex flavor profile with notes of citrus and dark chocolate. The cocoa-toned finish is very smooth with low acidity.
A full caramelization of the natural sugars in the bean give this dark coffee an intense roastiness, while it still retains it’s full body character with a smooth, pleasant aftertaste. 100% Arabica Coffee, GMO free.

Traditional Drip Machine: Add one level to slightly rounded measuring tablespoon (10g) of finely ground coffee (fine granular sand, not yet a powder) to each six ounce cup of water (177 ml)

French Press: Add 1-2 measuring tablespoons (10-20g) of coarse ground coffee per cup (177ml) of water and adjust to taste. Never add boiling water.
Cold Brew: Steep equal amounts of coarse ground coffee and filtered water in a covered container for 12-24 hours, strain coffee out and use cheesecloth or a paper coffee filter to remove leftover grounds. Add water to taste.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this produce an actual crema on the top of a brew from a stovetop espresso maker |
Answer: | No it does not produce any crema with a Breville Bambino espresso, although this is the first time I bought any coffee in ground version instead of whole beans |
Question: | How many cups of coffee (say 9 oz. cup) does one brick make |
Answer: | For a single shot espresso you need to use ~ 7 g of coffee, 9 oz = 250 gr hence you should be able to get approximately 35 espresso shots. |
Question: | Is this coffee made with 100% Arabica beans? If not, what is the blend |
Answer: | 70/30 robusta/arabica blend. |
Question: | I have been using Starbucks espresso roast for about 12 years for my daily coffee, does this compare |
Answer: | Oh yes! By far superior!! I’ve tilried this one and Espresso Cafe and both blew me away!! If someone thinks this is gross coffee I’d say maybe they didn’t use the proper amount of beans or they didn’t grind it right. This coffee makes Other coffees in the espresso shops taste like dirty water. It sounds like we are coffee snobs, maybe we are? But if I’m going to drink coffee I’d like to drink the best. If you want a great steak you buy the best cut your budget can afford, right? This offer is far less expensive also. |

Question: | Is the container recyclable |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. The container is recyclable. You may be able to recycle them as part of your town, or city recycling program. If you have any other questions, please call our Customer Care representatives at 877 455-9347 and they will be more than happy to assist you. |
Question: | How long does this coffee stay fresh in the can? I am the only coffee drinker, probably 1-2 espresso cups in a day |
Answer: | The can is airtight, so I would guess quite some time, we go through it pretty quickly but freshness has never been a problem. |
Question: | How many teaspoons (or grams) of this coffee do you use in the moka pot per 2 oz espresso cup? i have the bialetti 3 cup moka pot |
Answer: | I have the 6 cup moka pot and use about 6 slightly heaping teaspoons of the illy coffee. I would imagine that yours would require about 1/2 that - about 3 heaping teaspoons. I will say that I have been recently using LaVazza espresso in my moka and I find it to have a slightly stronger flavor, but is equally as smooth as the illy moka roast - and it is about $5 USD per can. |
Question: | What's the difference between this product and the regular Illy? Is it just relatively coarse? Same bean otherwise |
Answer: | Don't know about "regular" illy but this Moka ground coffee is finely ground and specifically for top-of-stove Moka pot where the boiling water pushes up through the finely-ground coffee and into the upper chamber. The can even has a picture of the Moka stove top pot on front of can. I think illy also makes an even finer grind specifically for expresso machines. I can really just speak to my experience with the Moka product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the expiration date on this coffee |
Answer: | the last batch of 6, that I bought, expire Dec.2017 |
Question: | What's the difference between regular Kronung coffee and this one, with Aroma label |
Answer: | Aroma is beans. Other is ground |
Question: | what is the current expiration date of inventory? thanks |
Answer: | The packages I currently have have a expiration date of 8/2021 |
Question: | It is now November 2018. What is the expiration date on the coffee |
Answer: | I guess you've seen several answers already; however, I've been ordering Jacob's coffee from different websites for years (mostly Amazon) and the length of the expiration date depends on the vendor. I typically buy 12 pkgs at a time. And, the dates are usually at least 5 or more months in the future. Occasionally, a vendor will offer a special on a lot that's expiring fairly soon; but these are well vacuum sealed and will probably be fine longer than it might take for you to use them all. Great Coffee!! Popi |
