| Answer: | I'd like to hear from Sony on this. My (previous model) BDPS580 had the child lock issue and a buffering problem. After constant buffering problems with Netflix etc, we bought a roku which NEVER buffers. We use the Sony only for BluRay playback. Re the child lock issue, after many days and hours of we give up. It's horrible. We downloaded a firmware update. It hung up on install and now it will not reload because it thinks it's complete. So the machine constantly displays the flashing goodbye message "see you" and does not consistently open, close, turn on or off. We do the various reset procedures "home-return-top menu" or unplug and replug, or hold the power button for 10 seconds, and then it sometimes responds. Once, twice. Then dies again. We turned off the quick start feature, tried to update the firmware again, many times, and it won't update because it thinks it doesn't need it. To be clear, it NEEDS something. Horrible machine. |

| Answer: | This player comes with an enclosed sheet labelled "LG Hardware Modified", which gives you detailed instructions for changing Blu-Ray zones. IGNORE THIS SHEET!!! The instructions tell you to "Make sure that the QUICK START mode of the unit is set to OFF from the setup menu!" Then it tells you to: "Press Standby/On to turn OFF the unit." There is no such "mode" to be found anywhere in the setup menu. Nor is there any button on the remote control labelled "Standby/On". Most importantly, DO NOT mess with the Setup Menu to try to select Player Regions! I tried that and got nowhere. As previously explained by another user, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS THIS: MAKE SURE THE PLAYER IS CONNECTED TO POWER. OPEN THE DISC TRAY ("OPEN/CLOSE" BUTTON) AND INSERT YOUR BR DISC. TURN OFF THE POWER (TOP RED BUTTON ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE REMOTE). ON THE REMOTE CONTROL, PRESS (1) FOR REGION A. PRESS (2) FOR REGION B. PRESS (3) FOR REGION C. KEEP THE BUTTON PRESSED UNTIL THE PLAYER TURNS ON! THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO DO. I noted that the player is preset for Region A. I inserted a Region B disc and pressed the button on the remote numbered "2" until the player powered up by itself and recognized my Region B disc. When i removed the Region B disc and inserted a Region A disc, the player automatically recognized the proper zone and played it. I did not have to repeat the numeric button process. I then reinserted the B disc to see if the player would automatically recognize its zone, and it did so. I don't have any Region C discs, but the same procedure should work for them. There may be a way to select zones within the setup menu, but i could not get it to work using the remote control. |

| Answer: | You need a High Speed 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 Cable to connect a 4K bluray device to other 4K bluray device. Anything less then HDMI 2.0 Cable will not pass the 4K signal. I have a surround sound system that has 4K passthrough but it didn't passthrough the HDR signal, With a HDMI 2.0 cable directly to my TV it worked and TV played 4k HDR signal. My solution to use the surround sound plus get a 4K HDR picture on the TV was to use a HDMI 4k HDR splitter to feed both the surround sound and the TV. |
