User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use a fire stick antenna with this unit |
Answer: | Jeff: Yes you can. You must use detach the flexible portable antenna, attach the provided vehicle 12 volt power source, and then attach the external antenna to the unit. |
Question: | are there handle bar mounts for the radio for motorcycle |
Answer: | The only one I've found was was from J@M model PACB-409-15. And they have a high opinion of it. I slightly modified an ARKON mount with the small pouch. I cut down the belt clip to fit in the bracket on dry days and use the pouch on wet days. |
Question: | There are many magnetic car mount antennas offered....can you suggest the cheapest yet most effective antenna to go with this unit |
Answer: | Remember your antenna is the most important part of your radio station.. Go with the Sirio Performer 5000, absolutely one of the best antennas you can get for the money.. You get what you pay for.. I've been a radio operator for over 50 years.. |
Question: | So with the adapter, you can plug the radio into something and it will use your car antenna or some other antenna and get further range? How far |
Answer: | Your antenna is the most important aspect in getting good range on your CB. For the beginner, your best bet is to buy the Midland 18-2442, Center Load Mag Mount Mobile CB Radio Antenna, available on Amazon for $19.99. It works perfectly with the Midland 75-822 unit. The magnetic base is strong enough to stay put until you remove it. It should be centered on the roof of your car, or truck cab, to radiate the best signal. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How large of a metal ground plane (diameter of a metal disc) do I need to provide for a non-metal mounting on my Corvette (composite panels |
Answer: | I would say at least 6 inches. Seems to work good for me |
Question: | Will the 15w version still be able to operate at 5w for the frs channels |
Answer: | If you operate a radio that has been approved for both FRS and GMRS, and if you limit your operations to the FRS channels with a maximum power of ½ watt effective radiated power and an integral antenna, you are not required to have a license. (Note that some dual-service radios transmit with higher power on FRS channels 1 through 7; these radios can be used without a license only on FRS channels 8 through 14.) |
Question: | Do you need a license to use this |
Answer: | Yes. A GMRS license is required to transmit on this radio. It is $70 for a 10 year license. You need to purchase from FCC. This is not a HAM radio so a HAM license will not work. |
Question: | Is this a CB |
Answer: | No, it’s a 2-way radio that utilizes a different frequency band than C.B.’s. These are GMRS radios which by law you are supposed to have a license from the FCC to operate. The license is not hard to get. It’s a 10 year license for you and your immediate family that cost $70. Which averages out to $7 dollars a year. There is no test, you just go on line and register then submit your fee. I did mine on a Saturday night and it was approved on Monday. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with a mounting bracket |
Answer: | The SoundLink Color II does have an auxiliary jack on it. Thank you for the question! |
Question: | Is the 3.5mm plug straight or 90 degrees |
Answer: | The longest Popcat meme recording I could find was only a ten hour loop. So obviously I’ve had to constantly hit repeat on it. Still looking for a 72 hour version. After constantly having to hit repeat after every ten hours for weeks, it seems fine. It handles the more blues-ey jazz alright, but after 3 seconds of rare basement bootleg acid jazz deep cuts, it threw itself into the toilet and flushes itself. Several weeks later, it was rumored that a sewer alligator was seen wearing a black turtleneck, beret, tiny square sunglasses, and a cardigan. |
Question: | What's the difference with the 70-2355T model |
Answer: | While you can leave it plugged in all the time, the question comes down more to the type of battery and whether you are shortening the life of the battery by doing so. I don’t personally know about this partidevice, but if you learn whether the battery is li-on, ni-mh, etc, then research that particular battery technology. |
Question: | Is this speaker waterproof? As in, if it gets left in a rain storm, will it still work |
Answer: | Hi Momo,Yes, there is an auxiliary jack on the system to connect a non Bluetooth device. You can operate the system off of AC as well as battery. Thanks for the question! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would i need to tune a Midland antenna with this |
Answer: | All antennas need tuning with a SWR meter when installing a new CB. You want the best reception, tune it. Local CB shop can do it or a local off road club has someone who CX a n help you. |
Question: | Can I monitor it from outside the cab with an external speaker |
Answer: | Yes it has an external speaker jack. |
Question: | what are the exact dimensions |
Answer: | 2" H X 6.25" W X 11" L. (The 11" length includes the wires connected at the front and back to their bending point.) |
Question: | how is the range on this unit |
Answer: | I assume you mean transmitting range. So, actually, the "range" on any given CB radio is the same as on any other. To explain: All CB radios by FCC rules can transmit no more than 4 watts. One can rig the 'pots' in the radio to get one or two more watts out of it, but that's it. Therefore, by far the most important factor with your CB radio is the antenna. Get a GOOD antenna and get it as high up as you can - 12'-24' feet for a base, and whatever is feasible for your vehicle, making sure that your SWR is good. Hence, this Midland 5001Z is a solid radio that will have excellent range within the limits of 4-5 watts of power. Again, a good antenna is essential!! All that said, to get more transmitting wattage, one can attach an amplifier to the CB radio and pump out a LOT of watts, but that is illegal per the FCC. Now, the FCC may never bother you, and you'll find folks out there who do it, but then again they could fine you because it is illegal. And that's the way it is. - Knightshadow. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with a antena |
Answer: | The antena that comes with unit is not very good . It doesn't work in a automobile . |
Question: | Can you plug into cig lighter while talking on the road |
Answer: | Yes - it comes with a cigarette lighter plug. |
Question: | do you have to have a license for this radoi |
Answer: | CB stands for "Citizens Band", meaning for citizens, which requires no license to operate. |
Question: | What is the range of this radio if I would get two of them |
Answer: | Depends on the antenna you use. I used this radio several times in a caravan with another person who used a Cobra CB with roof-mount antenna, as well as some semi trucks. Here's what I found:Included "rubber duck" antenna -- probably 1/2 mile to 1 mile on straightaway, a few car-lengths on curves. (use "low" power to reduce echos)With 29.5 inch mag-mount CB Antenna from RadioShack (fine-tuned with SWR meter after install), about 1-2 miles (use high power)With 102 inch chassis-mounted CB antenna from RadioShack (fine-tuned with SWR meter after install), I reliably and comfortably chatted with trucks at 5-7 miles or my driving buddy at 2 miles (use high power)For comparison, we tried using FRS "family" walkie talkies and they would only work when we were immediately following each other without any curve or vehicles between us. |

User questions & answers
Question: | With this radio can i get channel |
Answer: | Yes. This radio features all 40 channels. |
Question: | What is the adapter for |
Answer: | The adapter slides on the bottom of the radio and provides a power plug for your cigarette lighter and the antenna connector for your vehicle. |
Question: | What type of antenna mount is on the car adapter |
Answer: | Magnetic is best so you don't have to drill any holes. An Antenex CB-27 is one of the best. Not cheap, about $75. Just don't pinch the cable in your door frame or get the cable in a tight knot. There is a small copper wire down the middle of the cable to be careful with. The connectors on the radio adapter and the antenna cable are standard. |
Question: | what is the range of these radios, thanks |
Answer: | This is a hard one to answer. With the rubber duck antenna and a battery pack I was able to contact another mobile radio right at 1 mile in a urban setting. With the car adapter running a tuned k-30 on top of a truck I was talking clear at 11 miles. With different atmospheric conditions and different antenna mounting and.... you name it distance will be different. Put a linear amp on and you may be heard at 20 plus miles... it all depends. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this radio for a home base |
Answer: | Yes you can, but you'll need a 110v AC to 12v DC power converter and you'll also need a base station type antenna. I'm not sure why you would use this particular unit though because Midland makes a 40watt unit that would be much better suited to base station use. |
Question: | Are the privacy codes compatible with Motorola talkabout radios |
Answer: | Yes, however, I also have the T600 talkabouts and I was disappointed in the range between the MXT275 and the T600. I live in the city (Boston) in a neighborhood with lots of houses, so I knew that I had obstructions to deal with. But I thought I would have gotten better performance. The MXT to T600 only got about 50-75 feet further than the two handheld T600s got with each other. I am awaiting the upgraded 3db antenna to see if that helps any. Also, just a note, I did some research and the Talkabouts are limited to max power of 1.5 watts. Probably more realistically 1 watt consistently. I decided to pick up a set of the new Midland T295 handhelds.. as they are rated at nearly 3 watts.. probably 2.5 watts more realistically. But thats still a 150% power increase over the T600s so in theory.. I'm hoping the more powerful handheld.. paired with the MXT and the upgraded 3db antenna will have far better performance. I'm sure I'll have far more success with this set up when we use them on camping trips away from the city tho. Cheers. |
Question: | Is the internal speaker in the microphone or in the base unit |
Answer: | There are speakers in both the head unit and the base unit |
Question: | Does this radio have an internal ID that will show up on another radio or be able to be identified if used with a repeater |
Answer: | Don’t be fooled, most users don’t and shouldn’t be required to have a license to use this radio. The other answer that says you are required to have and use a call sign is false. You can get a GMRS license which might be a good thing to have. Now if your setting up a repeater I believe you do need to be licensed. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What happens if you don't have a lisence |
Answer: | Large fines are possible, I have seen sources that say up to $10,000 and jail time. There is a pending repeal of the license requirement but is currently still required and I think the fee right now is $70 for 5 years and extends to your family for use as well. The site is a bit of a pain to figure out but you will only take a day to have your license. |
Question: | How long is the antenna cable |
Answer: | The packaged antenna cable for the MXT105 is approximately 20 ft. in length. |
Question: | What kind of max range does this thing have |
Answer: | 3 miles without repeater |
Question: | Will this work with midland lxt600vp3 radios |
Answer: | Yes it sure will, the only channels you will not be able to use are 8 - 14 which are set to .5W of power per the FCC. The GMRS MicroMobiles are not programmed with those channels. However, use channels 1 - 7 and 15 - 22 for easy communication between these units! |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you also use AA batteries to power these radios |
Answer: | Yes you can, however the output power will drop drastically (form 5 to I think about 2W) with no indication on the display - it would still show “H” for High power. With the included battery pack though (which is essentially 5 1.2 NiMH AAA batteries in series) it achieves 5W transmit power. Which means if you buy it because of 5W output you must use battery pack. However battery pack does not last long. It is only 700mAh. Radio consumes 42mA on standby. So about 16 hours standby time if you don’t transmit. Charding time on the other hand is 12 hours. Make your own conclusions. |
Question: | what is the best REAL range I can expect |
Answer: | There are certainly many different choices available to folks regarding radio choices. Many consumers, however, fall into the trap of believing the misleading advertising that various manufacturer’s use to help sell their products, especially when they are in panic mode due to a natural disaster (like an earthquake) or (currently) various lock-down scenarios due to the latest overseas virus. One frequently used example of this buying trap are the claims of 35 to 50 mile range from 1/2 watt UHF FRS/GMRS handheld radios with non-removable antennas (frequently seen on various Cobra, Midland, Motorola, and Uniden radios sold at various big box stores or on the internet). At UHF frequencies (and with a decent antenna), you’ll normally get around 1 mile of range for every 1 watt of power on transmit, so a 1/2 watt big box store FRS/GMRS radio is likely to get only 1/2 mile of range, nowhere near the 35 to 50 mile claims shown on the box in large type (with the phrase “under optimum conditions” shown in very small type). What that means is that if one individual is standing near the cliff face on a tall 9,000 ft. high mountain and his friend is doing the same thing 35 miles away (with nothing between the two mountains but air), then they “may” get the 35 mile range as advertised. When both individuals are at ground level, normal range is reduced to a 1/2 mile (or less) depending upon obstructions that may be in their way. |
Question: | How much range can I expect from these radios in rugged, mountainous and forested terrain |
Answer: | Expect |
Question: | do I need a gmrs license |
Answer: | I called the FCC. If the radio goes beyond 2 watts, even if you are only using the lower-power channels, you still need to spend the $70 for the 10 year license. immediate family can use radios with your license (and you on the channel). GMRS will make for a better experience. I would just get it to be safe. |

We have a few blogs on the topic on Midlandusa.com - https://midlandusa.com/why-do-i-need-a-gmrs-license-how-do-i-get-it/ |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the radio have a 12v plug or does it need to be wired up |
Answer: | And no there is no 12v plug or anything. Just has a positive and negative for wiring to your power supply of your choosing. And yes to needing to be wired up which is easier than you think. |
Question: | If I wanted to hook this CB up to the cigarette lighter socket, what kind of cord do I need to purchase |
Answer: | The CB has two wires built in so all you would need is a cigarette lighter socket adapter and wire it up. The wires are about 4' long so you should have no problems where you mount it. The wiring is very easy - that's the set up I have so I can unplug and remove the CB when I'm just driving around locally. |
Question: | Do i need to buy and antenna for this? Or does it come with one |
Answer: | It needs an antenna regardless? There is no internal one? Is it ok to leave the small antenna inside the vehicle? Like in the trunk or glove box? |
Question: | What is frequency output range?what is the wattage |
Answer: | The 520XL can also be taken to any CB shop and be "peaked and tuned" to over double the factory power. This is a very common practice that any trucker will do with his/her CB. This radio, peaked and tuned will deliver 8.5-9.0 watts with 17-18 watt peaks. This is more than twice the factory (legal) power, and adds significant range and clarity to your radio. As far as I am aware, there are no other compact radios on the market with the ability to be peaked and having the RF gain control in a compact unit is AWESOME. This radio is a gem. Buy it, peak it, love it. |
