User questions & answers
Question: | What subwoofer do I add to this soundbar |
Answer: | My advise would be... save hard the money for the sonos subwoofer... 'cause it really is worth every buck! |
Question: | How does the sound quality of the beam compare to the play 1,3,5 when it comes to just playing music |
Answer: | Great for music, not just for TV. If I were blindfolded, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference. A pair of Play:1's probably has the best stereo sound. |
Question: | What is the voltage on the beams? 110v-240v |
Answer: | 100-240 volts 50-60 Hz AC power |
Question: | My tv only has a toslink output and not hdmi arc, would the beam work |
Answer: | Yes, for TVs that don't have an HDMI-ARC port, you can use the included optical audio adapter to connect Sonos Beam to the optical port on your TV. |
- Sonos One SL (2-Pack) Bundle : Get rich, room-filling sound in up to two rooms with a pair of powerful Sonos One SL speakers.
- Control is simple with the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2, and more.
- The compact design fits just about any space and is humidity resistant.
- Stream sound directly from your iPhone or iPad and ask Siri to play Apple Music.
- Enjoy immersive surround sound when you pair with Playbar, Playbase, or Beam.
User questions & answers
Question: | Does the Sonos app accept music from other apps, specifically Youtube Music |
Answer: | Yes. Just two of same. |
Question: | Can I stream music from a tablet to 2 room Sonos speakers |
Answer: | Unfortunately, a tech update from Sonos caused issues with streaming Audible, so they removed it as an option. Never fear, though! Sonos and Audible are already working on a solution to reintegrate Audible as a source! It will be available by a free firmware update in the near future. |
Question: | can I play music with a galaxy phone |
Answer: | Yes! And the packaging design is really cool. Two boxes will be shipped inside of a third box. Good thing they’re recyclable with all that packaging! |
Question: | is this gen |
Answer: | They are not chargeable, they need to be plugged in to an outlet. The term "wireless" refers to how they get their music, which is through WiFi and not wires connecting to a streaming player. Streaming is built in! |

User questions & answers
Question: | I already have a nice subwoofer. Is there any way (even via wireless adapter of some type) that I can use it with the Sonos Playbar |
Answer: | Paul, not directly, there are a couple options.. if the subwoofer is powered then you need to buy a Sonos connect and plug the subwoofer into that and then pair that in your settings to your playbar the other option if your subwoofer is not powered you would have to purchase a sonos connect amp and do the same thing, I have done both of these options in my home and they work very well. The sonos connect is half the price Of the sonos sub, you could look at it that way :-) |
Question: | Watching movies.. do you have the problem of having to constantly adjust the volume to turn down action and turn up dialog |
Answer: | 30 years I’ve never had a product which both sounds amazing and deals with this problem, and it is a big problem with a lot of content. Everyone has their own special setting but the only ones that truly work also degrade the great sound. I don’t think electronics can solve this as well as having a sound-dampening room, because that’s what they are mastered for (curtained theatre) and most of us have reflective drywall. |
Question: | Is there a way to connect all my inputs to a Denon 1612, connect that to the TV, and have the soundbar play sound from all sources |
Answer: | Yes and no. The PlayBar has only one input: fiberoptic. The Denon AVR-1612 does not include a fiberoptic output, so you cannot directly connect the receiver to the PlayBar. But your TV should have a fiberoptic output, so if you connect all the devices to the Denon via HDMI cables, then connect an HDMI cable from receiver to TV, then fiberoptic cable from TV to PlayBar, you should get sound from all sources connected to the receiver. If you do it this way, make sure that HDMI Audio Output is set to ON in the receiver set-up menu. However, connected this way, you will *NOT* get sound from the Receiver's built-in AM/FM tuner, nor will you get sound from any older devices that are connected to the receiver using analog audio/video cables (typically red/white/yellow RCA cables). There really is no advantage to using the Denon receiver in this set-up, unless your TV only has one or two HDMI inputs and you're trying to add more. But you could do that more simply (and inexpensively) with a simple HDMI switch. For simplicity, I'd recommend connecting all devices to the TV with HDMI cables, and connect the fiberoptic output of the TV to the PlayBar. This way the TV handles all source switching and whatever source is selected on the TV will play through the PlayBar. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Does anyone know how good the playbar sounds without the subwoofer |
Answer: | It sounds pretty good without the subwoofer. We have a small room and have the playbar....two Play 3's and one play 5 and it sounds great. For our small house the subwoofer would be too much and that's saying something as my husband really likes to have some bass going. If you had a huge area to cover you might want the subwoofer. We used to have a bose system with a subwoofer and this sounds as good at that if not better. If you are really into your sound you probably will want something in addition to the playbar like the play 3's and/or play 5's. We went that route because we could move them into other rooms of the house easily. FYI - the playbar is not a petite piece so make sure you have room for it. I hope this helps! |

Question: | Is it Apple AirPlay compatible |
Answer: | The Sub is intended to enhance the audio of other Sonos speakers. It can be bonded with AirPlay compatible speakers, such as the Play:5, Sonos One, or Arc. |
Question: | What kind of upgrade is this over the last generation Sub |
Answer: | Sub (Gen 3) brings the same iconic design and bold bass as Sub (Gen 2) with an increase in memory, processing power, and a more powerful wireless radio. Sub (Gen 1) was first released in 2012, with a minor refresh with Sub (Gen 2) in 2016. If you purchased the Sub before 2016, it is likely to be a Gen 1 version. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Este producto es inalámbrico? se puede conectar con el sonos multirrom beam |
Answer: | No, estas cornetas necesitan estar cableadas al sonos amp |
Question: | What is the impedance of these speakers |
Answer: | I do not know about the impedance of the Sonos In-Ceiling Speakers. But, I am very pleased with the quality of sound generated from the Speakers. Excellent quality! |
Question: | Will these speakers work as the rear speakers in a sound-surround system, or are these just for "ambient" sound, i.e., background listening music |
Answer: | They can work as rear speakers in a surround sound system. I use the playbar for my front 3 channels, the subwoofer for the .1 and have these connected to the Sonos amp for my rear. For Dolby Digital content they work as surrounds. For stereo sound(music) I have them set to play the same as the playbar to fill the room more. |
Question: | I'm installing these in new construction. is there a rough-in that i can install prior to insulation and drywall? how else can i find the wires |
Answer: | There is no rough-in that I am aware of. |

- Easily connect Sonos speakers in different rooms over Wi-Fi to create a home sound system that brings every room and everyone together.
User questions & answers
Question: | Would a pair of Play1s used for rear speakers in a 5.1 set up be much different from Play3s |
Answer: | I use 3's as rear speakers in my very large living room with high vaulted ceiling. But I have two pairs of 1's that I use as stereo speakers in my bedroom and workshop. In most rooms, 1's would work just fine as surround speakers in a 5.1 system. 3's have a little more oomph than 1's, but you probably won't be unhappy with either. |
Question: | Has anyone compared a stereo pair of Play:1s with a single Play:5? Which option provides better sound for a large room |
Answer: | The Play5 has more fidelity than S1, sound is fuller. However with the pair of S1's you will get better stereo separation since you can place them further apart. The S1 sounds better than the Play3. I own them all, so speaking from first hand experience. |
Question: | How does this speaker compares to the Bose Sounlink Mini |
Answer: | One point to any first-time Sonos buyers: a very big difference from the Bose Soundlink Mini is that the Sonos does NOT connect to an Echo Dot like the Bose (or any bluetooth speaker) - you only control music. If you are expecting to hear your Flash Briefing or anything else besides music out of the Sonos, you will be very disappointed. Also, for what it's worth, in my opinion, at a reasonable room-filling volume I thought the sound quality was similar. |
Question: | I want a bookshelf system for a large living/kitchen/dining room with enough volume for a party of 40-50 guests. Should I get 2 Play:1s or 2 Play:3s |
Answer: | If you can swing 2 Play:3s, that would be what to get. The sound is much better. Play:1 sounds great for what it is. But size and quantity matters. And whoever says that 2 Play:3s cannot be paired in stereo is completely wrong. And it depends on what kind of party this is. Is this for quiet ambience? Or is this a fun thumping party? That should help with which speakers to get. Even the Play:3 is kind of dicey for a loud thumping party. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this returnable if there is a problem |
Answer: | You can connect all the left speakers together and wire them into the left speaker connection. Same w right. You can also pig tail each if you like. The system was built for 1 pair 1 zone, but people in the real world who want the benefits of sonos and don't have the dollars to do 1 zone per speaker pair do this all the time.Just note: 1 Sonos = 1 Zone. That is the price for the shortcut. |
Question: | Can you connect 6 speakers to this |
Answer: | Yes, it can stream just like your music would, assuming that you want it too. Like all Sonos components, you can play something different in each room or have them all on the same. So when the kids are watching a movie, the Sonos only plays that in their space and we listen to music in the kitchen. If we all are watching the same thing, then both the TV room and the kitchen have the movie sound. |
Question: | Is the sonos amp weatherproof and can be installed outdoors? i mean the amp that supports the sonos outdoor speakers |
Answer: | The answer is...it depends....I would suggest that you make a drawing of your desired zones/speaker setup (include the length of hard wired connections as this may impact power/wire gauge to each set of speakers) and take the drawing to a local audio store that carries Sonos and ask them for a recommended setup. Based upon your question I'm assuming you want to drive 6 sets of traditional hard wired speakers and you want the ability to play different music on each set at the same time (6 zones) and presumably each set is separated by some distance, or in different rooms? If this is the desired setup then you will need 6 Connect:Amp ($499) one for each zone, which is a very pricey approach. Another alternative you may want to consider include using a Play:1 ($199), Play:3 ($299), or Play:5 ($399) Sonos speaker for each of the 6 zones and eliminate the need for hard audio wiring (these do require 120Vac wall plug), again this can be pricey, but you are in control of your budget. Lower cost alternatives include using a single Connect:Amp to drive more than one set of speakers, but as you add sets of speakers to a single Connect Amp the power delivered is split amongst the sets of speakers and also it is considered only a single zone, as it has only one input. The Connect:Amp is designed for a single set of speakers but can drive 2 sets of speakers (4 individual speakers) if each of the speakers are rated at 8 ohms. So lets say you wanted to drive no more than 2 sets of speakers on a Connect:Amp then you would need 3 Connect:Amp and each would be a single zone for a total of 3 zones. An even more cost effective solution might be available if you currently own and use a separate receivers/amplifiers with the ability to drive more than one set of speakers (speakers 1 and speakers 2) and currently connected to your existing speakers, you could then use a Sonos Connect ($349) as an input into your receiver/amplifier similar to a CD Player, or other Audio In device (this is the setup I use for a pair of backyard Bose outdoor speakers and a pair of PSB indoor living room speakers and I can switch either set on, or both on at my receiver). All of the setups mentioned will require a Sonos Bridge ($45) for connecting to your computer/wireless network. Again, without knowing exactly what you want for a setup this is the best response I can provide. There is some good detail FAQ's on the Sonos website that you will find useful... http://www.sonos.com/system. For what it's worth, the Sonos system is not for everyone, but I find the Sonos products to be of high quality with solid connection performance, easy to setup and provides ready access to my personal music library as well as a vast internet library (Sonos, Songza, 8 Tracks, RadiO, Pandora, Slacker, etc.) and also has very easy to use application for any computer, Android, or iPhone. I currently have the Sonos Bridge, Connect, Connect Amp and have recently added the Playbar for the TV. The downside of Sonos is that the system is very expensive and once you start down the Sonos path you will need to stay on it for it to be cost effective in the long run. |
Question: | how many ceiling speakers can you Connect to sonos amp gen |
Answer: | It will match up nicely with (2) Bose 251's. Don't be like the other guy who has (4) of them hooked up to one Connect Amp. That is an improper load on the amp and will eventually damage the amp. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many of this speakers can I pair up together? For example can I put 4 of them on my backyard and run them together |
Answer: | I believe so |
Question: | How to mount these to siding without knowing where a stud is |
Answer: | You can run 8 if you wire them in series parallel if you want. The only thing that matters is the ohms. Downfall is less power and no control on individual speakers. Depending on your budget you probably would wanna buy 3 amps or wireless speakers. A cheap solution is buy a speaker selector switch. You would need to select the speakers you want to hear so it wouldn’t be as seamless but it would solve your dilemma for under $100. Cheaper than almost $2k. |
Question: | Do you need to use sonos speakers with the new sonos amp? what do the sonos speakers add |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a Receiver, and a surround speaker set up, will this replace them |
Answer: | I plugged mine directly into my TV, it doesn't need a receiver. |
Question: | How is the sound quality in comparison to the sound bar |
Answer: | I have no idea about the sound bar,… because it’s height would interfere with TV remote operation. But it’s a HUGE improvement over the factory equipped sound system on the Vizio TV. |
Question: | Can I use my wired speakers and stereo with Sonia |
Answer: | Who is Sonia? Does she like music or movies? And if she's a wired kind of girl, I'd guess you can use your wired speakers with her. |
Question: | Does this come with the cords to connect to TV |
Answer: | Comes with fiber connector to connect to the TV SPDIF. |
