Answer: great question and only luck , wins here, no matter what store you buy from, box is sealed and only the bottom sticker of said router (any) shows HW versions, a2 is newest HW version.( or higher, some have 5 or more versions) might be only ESD upgrades , ask maker that. the more important fact in this topic is firmware upgrades we do day 1, new, out of box. do not use wrong upgrades A1 or A2 or what you have, or you will brick the thing. read the sticker and match the rom.bin file to correct version. just like on PCs or well , gee anything on earth with firmware inside..

You generate a key in set up first then you can change it or generate a different one any time.....by going back to the set up which sorry now I cant remember how to go back but I don't need to thank goodness as my key works and I have no real need to change it..its a great routet too by the way I bought it cause the people who share my large property with , we have three residences and all of us can share it and we are not really that close so I love it. Saves us a fortune as our isp would prefer we let them put three separate dishes for each of us but we don't have t owith this router so instead of paying almost $500 a month for service we pay $130 not a bad savings...
