Netgear is a well-known manufacturer of networking products, including cable modems and modem router combos. Cable modems are essential devices for connecting to the internet via cable broadband services. Here's what you need to know about Netgear cable modems:

  1. Cable Modem Function: A cable modem is a device that translates digital data from your internet service provider (ISP) into a format that your home network can use. It connects to the cable line from your ISP and provides an Ethernet port for you to connect your router or computer.

  2. Compatibility: Netgear offers a range of cable modems that are compatible with various cable ISPs. It's important to choose a cable modem that is approved by your ISP to ensure it will work with their service.

  3. DOCSIS Compatibility: The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) version is a crucial factor to consider when selecting a cable modem. Different versions offer varying speeds and capabilities. Make sure to choose a DOCSIS version that aligns with your internet plan's speed requirements.

  4. Modem Router Combos: Netgear also manufactures modem router combo units. These devices combine the functions of a cable modem and a wireless router in a single unit, simplifying your home network setup. They are suitable for users who want an all-in-one solution for internet connectivity and Wi-Fi.

  5. Performance: Netgear cable modems are known for their reliable performance and fast data transfer speeds. They are designed to handle high-speed internet plans and support features like multiple channels for faster downloads and uploads.

  6. Installation: Installing a Netgear cable modem typically involves connecting it to your cable line, activating it with your ISP, and then connecting your router or computer. Netgear provides user-friendly setup instructions and often offers customer support to assist with installation and troubleshooting.

  7. Security: Netgear cable modems typically come with built-in security features to protect your network from threats and intrusions. These may include firewall capabilities and the ability to set up secure Wi-Fi networks.

  8. Firmware Updates: Like other networking devices, it's important to keep the firmware of your Netgear cable modem up to date to ensure security and performance improvements. Netgear often releases firmware updates that you can apply through the device's settings.

  9. Customer Support: Netgear offers customer support, online resources, and a community forum to assist users with any questions, issues, or setup concerns they may have.

In summary, Netgear cable modems are reliable and high-performance devices that enable users to connect to cable broadband internet services. They offer a range of models to accommodate various internet plans and come with features like compatibility with different ISPs, DOCSIS support, and security features.Netgear also provides modem router combo units for those seeking an integrated networking solution.

User questions & answers

Question: Why does it say 4x ethernet ports in your description where there is only one
Answer: Because Amazon hasn't corrected their product subscription. I submitted one two weeks ago and has yet to be done. If you need more than 1 ethernet port, then this one is not for you. This has only (1) 2.5 Multi-Gig port.
Question: Does netgear cm500-1aznas work with tds provider
Answer: Yes. But you need to call the TDS customer service and provide your CMAC or SN to register your device. These numbers are on the box and the unit
Question: Can you use a phone to ethernet splitter for voice to work
Answer: I have never heard of a phone to internet splitter, at least not expressed in those terms. However, for VOIP (which means Voice Over Internet Protocall), you must have at least one phone jack in a modem, or a modem-router combination. Some modems have two such jacks, which could provide two different "lines." Most importantly, you must have your internet service provider's PERMISSION to install and use such a modem, or modem-router combination! My own ISP (Wow, aka Wowway.com) REFUSED to give such permission because that would cut into their profits, since they would no longer receive a monthly FEE to RENT their age-old junk, much of which are at least five years old, which is like a millenia in this day of super-fast-paced electronic offerings. I had to send back every VOIP-capable modem I bought from Amazon and other places because my ISP REFUSED to enable them to work with their so-called service(s). Talk about anti-competitive business practices ... U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), are you paying any attention?
Question: I understand that this modem says it will only work with xfinity. but has anyone tried this with spectrum? (aka time warner cable
Answer: Hello. I am writing this Dec 2, 2020 and just activated this modem 2 days ago with Spectrum. It is not on the list of approved modems, but oddly enough the CM400 is. I just told the tech support who activated it that it was compatible and it's worked fine with no problems. I went from 100-120 mbs on my 100 mb plan to 250 to 450 mbs, still on the 100 mb plan. This modem is not on the list of approved models but it seems to work fine so far without periodic latency/drops like the Arris model from Spectrum had.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with charter spectrum? Cable tv
Answer: Yes I called the seller they told me that this modem will work with Spectrum cable Tv.
Question: Where do i find the devises user id and password
Answer: It's printed on a label on the modem itself.
Question: Will this work with optimum
Answer: It’s Amazon... buy it and if it doesn’t work, return it.
Question: I bought and finally connected. I can only get 1 of the 4 ports to work at any given time. It doesnt mater what port I plug in 1 works other no
Answer: The additional 3 ethernet ports are reserved for port aggregation, which is currently not supported on the CM1150V. I guess you would call them reserved for future use. The CM1150V does not include built in router. Most ISPs, like Xfinity only provide a single IP address with your service, so you would not be able to get multiple computer or other network devices to work without a router connected your modem. What you would need to do is connect a router to one of the ports on the CM1150V, then connect your devices to the router.

User questions & answers

Question: What does "AC1200" mean
Answer: AC means that the router has support for the 802.11ac (or Wi-Fi 5) wireless networking standard, which offers fast WiFi network connections on the 5GHz frequency. 1200 means the max Mbps is 1200
Question: Does the box come with the necessary cables? (e.g. power cord and coax cable
Answer: It does come with a power cord and either net cable. A coax is not needed since cable company should connect their end directly to the modern.
Question: Does this modem have netgear genie
Answer: Hello Thank you for contacting us. It has Netgear Genie App Management. Any questions please contact us again. Thanks.
Question: I see many ppl asking about a router and answers say “modem only” but the description says wifi modem combo. what am i missing
Answer: The confusion is due to the illogical way Amazon links questions and answers to products. There are several different products listed on this one product page. Some are just modems, others are modem/router combos. Unfortunately, all the different products on this page share the same questions and answers which aren't relevant to one another. If the description on the product you have selected says it's a modem/router combo, then it's a modem/router combo. The people saying it's only a router are answering the question based on the product their viewing or have purchased. This is a problem that effects many products throughout the Amazon site.

User questions & answers

Question: Cm600-1aznas ($89.99) vs cm600-100nas ($109.99), what's the difference
Answer: 1aznas is an amazon sku, 100nas is the retail sku. Otherwise they are the same modem.
Question: Does this modem have a router built in
Answer: NETGEAR Gigabit Cable Modem 32x8 DOCSIS 3.1 Max speed 6 Gbps | For XFINITY by Comcast and Cox. Compatible with Gig-Speed from Xfinity (CM1000-1AZNAS) This model, nope, that's a no router model and the one Ethernet port is indicative of that. Netgear does not make any Cable Modems are dual units if there is only one Ethernet port, that's the point, no router, if there is a router, there's at least two ports. And the liars here, says up to 6 Gbps, with one single 1 Gbps port, that's a defined 1 Gbps port and there's only 1 so no bonding. Anything that connects to THIS cable modem will only ever, ever, ever be able to max 1 gb up or down, and we know you'll never see that speed but Cox Gigablast, yeah it's insanely fast. I just don't get why it 100 % is lying and does not ever, under any condition support a connection beyond 1 gb, obviously they are referring to what the cable (coax) is capable of doing per docsis 3.1 but that's misleading, that doesn't matter, it support whatever the slower port is, in this case, the limiting port is actually the Gigibit Ethernet port so that's the max speed 1 Gbps, please correct.
Question: Can the stand be removed
Answer: The stand on the CM1150V can easily be removed by removing one silver screw from the bottom of the unit. For this particular modem you need a Torx-8 screwdriver or equivalent. An earlier review, presumably for a different modem indicated a Torx-9 was required.
Question: Does this device increase the Internet Speed? Why i buy it
Answer: For someone to tell you, "yes"....really doesn't understand how the internet speeds work or do not understand your question. In basic terms....."No", this will NOT increase your internet speed that you subscribe too and pay for. You can't pay for a low internet speed and expect to get fast internet speeds because you bought a piece of equipment. The speeds do not work that way. HOWEVER.....using my current situation for example....I'm a time warner customer. I am paying for the 50 meg speed and I have an Arris 6141 modem. Time Warner just increased all their speeds for free so now I am able to get 300 meg speeds for the same price that I'm currently paying for ***BUT my Arris 6141 modem will only allow roughly 100 megs to get through to me...*** SO I am buying THIS modem because it allows all 300 megs to get through. The internet speed really isn't increased....it's still 300 megs, but by buying a different modem it allows the speed of what I'm paying for to get through. I hope this is a better explanation for you and others wondering about this topic. The answer can be more complicated because of how many "channels" a modem has, ect...but this is a simplistic answer. A modem with 24 downstream channels will allow more speed to get through than a modem with 8 or 16 channels. And a 32 channel will allow more speed to come through than a 24 channel. Allowing more speed to come through isn't the same as increasing the internet speed you have paid for. If that makes any sense.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this router quiet/almost silent
Answer: I don't hear it. The fans inside to cool it are quiet. Not like a Comcast DVR that you can hear from another room. You can even disable lights from flashing so it won't stand out.
Question: Is this router works with verizon fios
Answer: No
Question: Do i have to use "smart connect," or can i choose for myself which band i connect each device to
Answer: As long as the device you're trying to connect can see both bands, you can connect to either one.
Question: can a phone line be added to this unit
Answer: There isn't a phone jack, per se, but you can use any Ethernet service like Obi200 (provided they don't do any 'Mandatory upgrades' Shenanigans, again) and Google Voice. It works perfectly, just you gotta use ethernet and not phone line/Cable company provided Junk.
