Answer:	TLDR: Generally, yes - but only if you want internet. However, this depends entirely on your type of internet service. Let's start by discussing the difference between a modem and a router... A modem provides a connection to the global internet by transmitting, receiving, and converting data from your internet service provider (ISP). Typically these will connect to the wall with a coaxial cable and will produce a live ethernet port on the back of the modem. A router connects your local devices together and provides a WiFi connection to assist in this process. Routers do not provide access to the global internet without a modem. You need to connect the ethernet cable from the back of your modem to this router in order to supply your local devices with a connection to the global internet. I have ziply fiber with internet only service and my wall port is not a coaxial cable but rather an ethernet port. Answer:	This is a lot harder to answer than a simple number. In my home I have about 75ft diameter from the router. My home is about 2000sq ft and I have signal from one corner to the other. My farthest device is separated by about 4 walls and still pulls in about 400mbps down.
