Memory is what the system, in this case the Tablet, and the apps uses to run programs/apps. All Tablet A 10.1" (2019) models support an external storage of up to 512GB. As for the use of expansion storage for installing apps, it depends. Some apps allow you to install it directly onto external storage, some don't. After the apps are installed (onto internal storage; in this example the 32GB internal storage): -- some apps can be moved to external storage along with all their data -- some apps can't be moved to external storage, but their data can me moved onto external storage -- some apps can't be moved, nor can their data, to external storage. You definitely can download your movies, music, books, documents onto the external storage (up to 512GB) and watch/read them at any time. You can even put them into multiple external storage cards and swap them any time you want.
