User questions & answers

Question: Two questions!! if my source is a 1tb drive but only contains about 350gb, can i do a standalone copy to a 500gb ssd? also, how fast is cloning
Answer: Unfortunately no you cannot. The destination drive has to be bigger. I tried to clone a 500gb ssd to another 500gb ssd with only 200gb of data, and it did not work, tried it 3 times with no luck. I upgraded my destination drive to a 512gb ssd and it worked. It’s a slow process also- don’t know the speed but it took a solid 45 minutes to clone for a 512gb Drive, so it might take longer for a 1tb Drive. Hope this helps. Jamil.
Question: Will it clone all your programs as well ( i.e Photoshop, Office, Outlook etc
Answer: it clones everything on the drive, even the OS if it is installed. this isn't a copy, but a complete clone of everything.
Question: whats are the steps involved the in cloning a drive. How about speed. tom
Answer: It's so easy, but make sure you don't get your drives mixed up! I put some labels on mine. The front slot I marked as Target and the rear slot I marked as Source. Put your old drive (Source) in the rear slot, and put your new drive in the front slot (Target). This does not require you to hook up to a P.C. Turn the unit on and wait for the front circle turn blue for both the Source and Target, push and hold the circle until it starts to flash and then let go and quickly push it again. You should now have a blue flashing indicator on the circle showing the cloning progress. When it's done make sure that you turn off the power before removing the drives.
Question: Can you access data on both drives at the same time? ie. can I plug in two hard drives and manage both of them from my computer at the same time
Answer: The dock's external power supply is too weak to power two high power drives being accessed at the same time. That's why the the unit keeps resetting. A more powerful power supply is needed to do this, but the manufacturer should have included this.Fortunately, a good 4 or 5 amp, 12 volt power supply can be purchased for around $10 to $15.

User questions & answers

Question: Is it safe to use this for media files and run
Answer: Absolutely. I have had mine connected to my PC for 2 months 24/7, and it runs just like an internal Sata HDD. Have a good one!
Question: Will this product support a 6TB
Answer: My 6TB Seagate hard drive didn't work for this product. On Amazon website said 3TB desktop, it might be up to 3TB.
Question: Is the power supply universal (110-240V
Answer: 12v ps. Provided...do not use 12v supply with 5v drives. Some drives are ranged 5v to 12v . Some just say 5v.
Question: I have a 1TB internal hard drive which I want to convert to external for backup storage. Is this a viable solution
Answer: Depends on the HDD or SSD you are using and how you intend to use it. This drive is really made for fast-access to a variety of different drives for shorter periods. The interface is high-speed, but the case does NOT seal out dust, it does not give any sort of shock/impact damage protection, and not having any sort of cooling, it can get very hot with high speed HDDs. I have a 10k RPM WD Raptor from quite a few years back that I wanted to pull music off of. Over about an hour of usage, it got quite hot. While perfectly fine for intermittent usage, this is not ideal for frequent or prolonged usage given heat is a major catalyst of premature hard drive failure. So with higher RPM HDDs, this is not as good a choice for constant usage as a dedicated enclosure with some shock protection and a cooling fan/heat sinks. With a SSD, this is obviously not of concern. So if your 1tb is a HDD and you want to have it running constantly for backups, an external with a fan and shock protection would be a better match, IMO. Depending on the age of your drive though, it may be worth considering buying a new drive outright given you can get enterprise grade drives like the WD RE4's in that size for under $70 and SSDs have even gotten very affordable. While predicting when a specific drive fails is very difficult to do, standard consumer-grade HDDs tend to have failure rates increase at the 3-4 year mark and really spike at the 4-5 year mark (Google's study on this is the most detailed I know of to date.) An enterprise drive would give you a more reliable backup system with a longer reliable service life, and usually read/write speeds that are 2-3 times faster than standard internal HDDs (of which you would need to use USB3 or ThunderBolt to take full advantage of.)Sorry for the long response.

User questions & answers

Question: I bought this and tried windows 10, linux (ubuntu, arch) and macos and I can't get any drive to show up. Does anyone have the manual? Firmware update
Answer: Hi Jake. I'm not sure of the model drill press you have but I'll give you dimensions of the vise and you can determine if it will fit. The vise is 5"w x 4-3/4"long. The 4 slots are 1/2"x2". The slots are 4" on center and 1/2" from each side making up the 5" width. There is 1/4" metal between each slot making up the 4-3/4" length. I believe it's made well enough for small work and is fine for my table top drill press. It is smaller than what you will find at Home Depot or LOWES, which were a little too large for my drill press. I hope this helps.
Question: does it supports 220v europ
Answer: Yes, the vise is steel jawed and magnetic.
Question: will this copy a sd card to usb
Answer: The other answers are incorrect, all of Wilma's products are imported, usually from China. Their main office is in Seattle, but no manufacturing.
Question: During cloning the 50% light has been flashing for a couple days now. What does that mean
Answer: The two side mounting slots are about 2 inches long with about 1/4 inch distance between the two slots. The slots are about 1/2 wide. The base is 5 inches long and 5 inches wide.

Answer: Just in case you didn't know w10 and like ubuntu (Linux) natively have the drivers if you are using it as storage. For storage try 1st turn the pc on and then plug in and turn on the box, but a side note if you are trying this with a brand new drive like in w10 you have to use disc management 1st format it and assign a drive letter. But if you are using already used drives like to pull data off of try leaving the external box powered up and unplug the usb cord and replug if that doesn't work try a different usb port or a different pc all together. Just a reminder if you are trying to duplicate / clone a new hard drive from your old hardrive keep the usb cord unplugged from the pc and push the button in the back of unit until if flashes and then push it again and the cloning will start. Hopefully this helps, myself like many others this works great or maybe you have a doa unit. Last I checked there was not a updated firmware available yet. Good luck
Question: What is the average time to clone a 2TB harddrive? We are at 6 hours and still not done
Answer: Dear customer, our power supply can be used with 110-240V voltage, but this is a US power supply, you need a converter. Or you can go directly to our European site to buy it.
Question: Can i use this on my macbook pro 2018 - using it to hold a high performance drive running final cut pro
Answer: Not 100 % sure. I use mine mainly for direct HD to HD copy and cloning, and occasionally copying from my PC to to HD using a USB cable. I would contact the seller or manufacturer for a more definitive answer!
Question: Can i clone my xbox one x hdd to ssd
Answer: Dear customer, According to your feedback, it may be that there are bad sectors in your hard drive, making cloning impossible. This will not lose the data on the source disk. You can use the software to check your hard drive to confirm the problem, if so, bad sectors cannot be repaired, it may need to be reformatted(Please backup data in advance). If your hard drive cannot be recognized on the computer, it may be that the hard drive is damaged.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I plug a drive in this and use it to clone the system drive in my computer
Answer: I did not attempt cloning. However, as part of a security wipe I did write several passes of zeros using disk management tools and it worked perfectly. Therefore, I think it should work for cloning as well but as with most things "computer", no guarantees...
Question: can I copy just some files from a hard drive or can it only clone the full hard drive
Answer: FYI, if you want to initiate to offline clone, then it will clone the whole content, OS and spare space included, of source drive to target drive once conducted successfully. It is not available for choosing just some files to be cloned. Actually, you may paste the part files from one drive to another via computer if needed. Hope this helps.
Question: Can I use this to erase data on hard drives
Answer: You can access the data through this docking station so long as it is connected to your computer. So I would say yes you can erase the data off of the hard drive through this device.
Question: I have two hdds with data. if i insert both, will each be recognized as separate drives
Answer: Yes, they will be recognized as separate drives.

Question: Is this compatable with xbox one
Answer: Yes it works with Xboxes.
Question: Will i be able to use this to upgrade my windows 10 system 3.5 inch hd to ssd using the cloning software? sounds too good to be true
Answer: Yes
Question: Off-line cloning doesn't seem to work even with identical (MBR) drives & the target freshly formatted. Are others finding this feature works
Answer: Thanks for your question, we are gald to help you.Hard Drive Duplicator FunctionHDD A----Source HDD HDD B----Target HDD1.Make sure there are no connection on the USB.2.Ensure the Power Switch on the rear is in the OFF Position and plugged in properly.2. Insert the HDD A in the rear near the power plug and insert the HDD B in the front.3.Offline clone is from HDD A to HDD B. Make sure your Main Drive is in HDD A and slave in HDDB. The capacity of HDD B must be equal or bigger than HDD A.4. Press and hold the offline clone button for 3 seconds, the LED indicator will light up. Thenquickly press the offline clone button and the offline clone operation will start. Each LEDrepresents 25% completion. It is only when every 25% of HDD A is offline clone to HDD B thatsuch LED will remain constantly on. When offline clone operation is fully completed, all LEDs willconstant on until the device is power off.Unable to clone: Please check if the capacity of Disk B is larger or equivalent to that of Disk A.Here the capacity means the actual capacity that can be used, instead of the one marked on theproduct. For example, the actual capacity of a disk marked 500GB might be 480GB only. Theactual capacity of disks with the same marked capacity differs if they are produced by differentproducers. To ensure two disks of the same marked capacity have the same actual capacity, theyshould be produced by the same producer in the same batch with the same model number.b. Indicator light stops flashing up during offline duplicating: it might because of disk bad sectorsso that data couldn’t be cloned as usual. It’s better to change a good disk.c. After cloning, the rest capacity of B disk is showed and operated via ”Computer management -Storage - Disk management”.d. Why over 2TB hard disk couldn’t be identified by USB? Because the maximum capacity of harddisk which Windows XP can supports is 2TB and couldn’t be identified by system if over 2TB. Itonly supports after upgrading the operating system above Vista (64 bit) version and we suggestchanging hard disk into a GPT disk partition, or the operating system will not support over 2 TBdisk partitions.e. Please make sure that B hard disk data can be covered before cloning data. Because once youstart cloning, B hard disk partition methods and data are completely cloned as A hard disk. Ourcompany does NOT undertake any responsibility for data or economy loss which could bring bydamaged data.f. Please do not remove your hard drive or insert a new one while the other hard drive is beingaccessed, as doing so the other drive temporarily disconnects and this could damage your harddrive and result in data loss.Hope the above information helps! Question: I dont need nor want clone function. will this just work fine as external hdd? i dont want to accidentally clone my HDD. Is it that easy to clone
Answer: I don't use the clone feature. It's a great dock, but only if you have USB 3.0 or 3.1 available. Otherwise the speeds will be limited.

User questions & answers

Question: Does anyone have any idea what linux kernels are supported? If a list is unavailable could someone report which ones they have tested it out on
Answer: Yes, if your computer is with a USB-A port, you could use a USB C Female to USB-A Male adapter to work. Kindly be noted, it would be better to purchase the one under USB3.0 for better use. Thanks & Best regards, WEme Customer Service
Question: Will this work with Mavericks? Also, is it compatible with SATA III? This page has conflicting specs (II in some places and III in others
Answer: I’ve cloned about 25 drives, all 500gb. They all took about 85-90 minutes each. Not sure you could extrapolate that - but - 2tb is 4 x 500gb - which would put you near 6 hours. One difference is that I was cloning hard drive to SSD. Hard to hard would take slightly longer. That’s just my observation and opinion- not a scientific measurement.
Question: Is the power adapter 110v-240v? or is it just 110v
Answer: WEme hard drive docking station supports any 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives. If your hard drive is a SATA interface, then you can use it with our docking station. Thanks & Best regards, WEme Customer Service Team
Question: Question has anyone tried using one of these on a raspberry pi
Answer: Yes you can clone drive from hdd to ssd . I attempted last month and absolutely regret it because of xbox one x just doesnt play nice . ( its not this dock's fault though) instead search for offline USB update for xbox and follow the instructions. There are videos from Andrew Paul . Id suggest you not to do it unless you want brick but decentconsole. I am still struggling to get my xbox one x up and running . From my own experience my headache just has begun ever since i attempted to upgrade ssd .

User questions & answers

Question: does anybody use this for use with a Directv Genie. How big can you use
Answer: D.W.I have a Fedora 20 system currently running kernel version 3.14.9-200. I have a pci-e NEC USB 3.0 controller (uPD720200) card installed. This USB caddy works great. I cannot provide information about other specific kernels, but the USB caddy has worked with every version of the kernel I've used with Fedora 20.
Question: Why does my drive only work in this unit? i can't use the drive in any other dock. and if I clone the drive { in diff dock]-- exact same problem
Answer: I'm using this dock with Mavericks and it will transfer at SATA III spec. See http://www.cablematters.com/pc-439-101-superspeed-usb-30-to-sata-hard-drive-docking-station-supports-3tb-hard-drives.aspx
Question: Does this come with a USB cable
Answer: The 12volt...2.5 A Power Supply Model SW-1202000A..Plate Reads..... Input: 100-240VAC, 50/60HZ,0.8A( I used it only on 115 VAC)
Question: Would this docking station support SSD, or only HDD (platters and read heads)? Thanks
Answer: You're probably considering this device because it has its own external power supply, which prevents your Raspberry Pi's power supply from becoming overloaded. Right? I just got this device in the mail today and I had no problems hooking it up to my Raspberry Pi 2 and reading some of my existing hard drives. I found the disks with "sudo fdisk -l" and they show up as /dev/sd? devices.I did have a problem with a few drives mounting in read-only mode. This is more of a Raspberry Pi problem (not having the correct drivers). To get around this, I had to do the following: "sudo apt-get update" "sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g" then a command such as "sudo mkdir /sda2" "sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda2 /sda2"You can find other documentation on-line, like how to get it to automatically mount at boot with /etc/fstab entries. Mine is "/dev/sda2 /sda2 ntfs-3g defaults, noatime 0 2". The "noatime" tells it not to constantly update the directory attribute to record each time a file is accessed. But back to your core question -- yes, it absolutely works great with a Raspberry Pi 2 (and by extension, shouldn't have any problem with Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+, and probably other version as well). Enjoy!
