Answer:	The 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB drives are all SMR, which means they are slow for random writes and not suitable as boot drives. (Google "Why SMR drives are sub-optimal for write-intensive workloads".)

Answer:	I have two WD Mybook 10TB HDDs and they act oddly, too. They vary between 130MB/s to 30MB/s for no known reason on a dedicated USB3.1 port. NO other drives are in use other than the NVe 128GB internal drive on Win10home 64bit system. Either HDD can start at 130MB/s and within seconds be bogged down at 30MB/s for 5 minutes at a time...briefly go back to 110MB/s, then right back down to 30MB/s. This is while transferring files from the internal NVe drive to the MyBook HDD. It may be cache management that is perhaps screwing around with the drive I/O. Either that or there is some "wear management" going on in the HDDs and it is alternating between PHYSICAL inner and outer tracks on the drive. Typically as you fill-up more of a standard HDD, the MB/s decreases and it can be significant...but this happens even when these MyBook HDDs are brand new, with no new added data as yet. My lower capacity WD HDDs (1TB and 2TB) attached via a Wavlink HDD USB3.0 docking station do NOT act like these higher capacity drives. They have consistent and as expected I/O speeds typically exceeding 120MB/s.

Answer:	As long as you have a modern PC. It's typical SATA III interface. The only issue is with older PCs because you need a BIOS that can deal with GPT partitions. But really, if you have something that came out after around 2010 - 2012, the BIOS should be more modern. BIOS, being software/hardware = firmware that's involved with the basic functionality of the hardware that's part of the PC, which is what brings the PC up to the state of being able to load an operating system, such as Windows or Linux.

Answer:	I emailed them this question about the 8TB Seagate Exos 8TB Internal Hard drive, and at least they were honest. (saberPC). I chose not to waste my money on a 'questionable' 5 YEAR warranty from a company that may very well not be around in 5 years, and even if they are, a company with a 10% 'unsatisfied' customer raises some serious red flags. Better to spend an extra 50 bucks and get a real warranty from Seagate. 5 years is a LONG time. 'The Seagate hard drives that we are selling are OEM drives which are all brand new and sealed from the factory. The warranty is from us that we offer an industry standard 5-year warranty on all hard drives and we have been in business for over 12 years. Answer:	USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 share the same physical connection type (USB-C). USB-C devices can be connected to Thunderbolt 3 ports, as TB3 supports USB-C devices. However, TB3 drives cannot be connected to USB-C ports on computer. So, this USB-C drive will connect to USB-C ports, Thunderbolt 3 ports, or using included cable, USB 3.0/2.0 ports.
Question:	Can I take the hard drive out and use it as a regular desktop hard drive
Answer:	I’ve done this with about 30+ 2tb, 4tb, and 8tb drives over the years- converting an external to an internal- and they are all still running fine to this day. Usually $30-40 cheaper than the internal and you get a free usb cable to boot. Just make sure you don’t hurt your hands while doing it. Twisting a flathead screw driver in the seams seemed like the way to go if I recall. They don’t make the cases easy to open. For someone below: Don’t use these for RAID. NAS rated drives are different because they handle higher heat, able to run 24/7 with cross checks, etc. read more about what makes the iron version a NAS approved drive compared to the standard barracuda.

Answer:	Just reformatted the external hard drive using Disk Utility. Works for Mac :) Im not a tech savvy person, so I found this website to be useful when selecting what option to select when erasing the hard drive. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4276140?start=0&tstart=0I chose to use Journaled as I am using this for a Time Machine back up, like Matthew Chellew suggests in the first answer.

Answer:	Like a charm, exactly what I purchased it for. Plug into any of the three ports (all 3 of the original XBox One ports are 3.0) and give it a minute. The XBox will recognize it and you have to choose for storage or media. Choose storage for games and you are up and running. Do be aware that this HDD does require its own power supply. I was transferring games within 5 minutes. FWIW within half an hour there was a power outage in the middle of a transfer and the external drive, the XBox One and the data are were ok when power came back on. If a data transfer is interrupted for any reason simply delete the failed portion on the destination drive and start the process over.

If you are doing a DIY NAS or a SAN for that matter; these drives are a great value. If you a replacing drives in a Buffalo or a similar device then get smaller size drives say 4TB Max. SATAs. I bought them to test them on a legacy motherboard that has 2 SATA III ports , 4 SATA ll ports and 8 SAS ports. The SAS drives are roughly 40% faster on reads and 25% faster on writes. I configured the drives in a soft 0 raid array to get this result. SATA vs SAS under Windows 10 PRO. I am sure if I set this up under FreeNAS, RockStor or similar software. I Could get similar or probably better results. Hope this helps
Question:	The title says 512n, but the description says 512e. Which is correct
Answer:	The model number is specified as 512E per Seagated white papers. 512e is the transition between 512n and 4kn and is generally compatible, but may find some issues with older controllers.
Question:	Why can't these work for regular pc? is there not a sas to sata adapter that could make them work
Answer:	Yes there are adapters, both cable and pci-e cards. But if you get a get a SAS adapter cable your drives will run at SATA speeds, not at SAS Speeds. If you get a PCI card you can get full through puts. I use mobile hot swap enclosures. This solves the problem because some of them are SATA and SAS compatiable. So if you have a motherboard that has SAS connectors you can use them and if you only have SATA you can use them. It also make swapping or replacing drives much easier. Just keep in mind if you don't have SAS connectors (native SAS drivers) either on the board or a PCI card you wont get the same performance.

Answer:	manufacturer considers 1 Megabyte to be 1000 Kilobytes, 1 Gigabyte to be 1000 Megabytes, 1 Terabyte to be 1000 Gigabytes and so on. This is correct considering that kilo means 1000 and mega means 1000000 (10^6). However, computers calculate on base 2 and to them, 1 MB is actually 1024 kilobytes, 1GB is 1024MB and 1 TB is 1024GB. This difference in the method of computation is responsible for this "missing space." Let's take an example of a 500 GB hard disk. From a manufacturer's point of view, the 500GB will have 500*1000*1000*1000 = 500000000000 bytes. From a computer's point of view, 500GB is actually 500*1024*1024*1024 = 536870912000 bytes. So, a hard drive that promises to have 500 GB storage space will actually display 465.66GB, 536870912000-500000000000 = 36870912000 bytes (34.34GB) less storage space when connected to a computer. Answer:	I have two NAS drives in my computer, and they work great. I bought two easystore external hard drives and removed the hard hard drives from the case. The hard drives are 5400 rpm drives. I only archive things on those drives, and they work great. The 7200 rpm drives are better for gaming but more expensive. The easystores only costed me $150. They also have a 256mb cache.
