Answer:	iNetMike is incorrect. It most definitely is active. I took one apart that died just to see what all was inside it and posed a review with a picture of it. There is no way you are going to convert digital only DisplayPort to Analog only VGA without electronics. It gets its power from the 3.3v DisplayPort pin. Also, it only works one direction... DisplayPort output to VGA input. It will not take a VGA output and convert it to a DisplayPort input.
