A "dual link" DVI has SIX extra pins in the middle of the connector interface. If you have a dual link, it will support 2560 x 1600 body. The other issue is whether your HDMI is 1.4 that supports what is called "Deep Color," or 36-bit/px. Then you have to ensure your output hardware can support that resolution.Also keep on the lookout for an "active" cable, they cost about $120 that will get you to a higher resolution. Provided that the hardware you're using for your output is fairly recently made, like within a couple of years or so, there shouldn't be an issue with the conversion.
