Answer:	universally, barrel connectors are built with the collar as "-", with the protected pin in the center being the "+". This is based on the history of power terminals being either "hot" or "neutral", although a charger is in reality both voltages floating with respect to ground potential. SO with electronics as well as automobiles, positive + was, in every case I'm aware of, as the "hot", and the "-" was neutral, often even connected to ground at the source. The idea being that you can safely touch the "-" (ground), but the "+" on the center pin is safely protected by being recessed. You would see that same thing in light sockets, the small bit in the center is the "hot" and the large threaded ring surrounding the inside of the socket is "neutral", which is supposed to be grounded at the fuse box (unless someone goofed up the wiring). All that said, I tried to use this adapter to convert a 5.5 mm charger to charge my Lenovo laptop (uses USB-C). I am coming to learn there are like jumpers needed within the USB-C connector, as this device alone did not successfully charge my laptop. There is (apparently) a resistor within the "official" USB-C charging tips that dictate the voltage level to deliver, so one charger can deliver a variety of different voltages (darn the luck). I ultimately bought a regular USB-C charger for about $25. Sorry if that's a disappointment, but it is what it is.
