12 best set graphic equalizers
Graphic equalizers, often referred to as "EQs" or "graphic EQs," are audio devices used to adjust the frequency response of audio signals. They play a significant role in car audio systems and are commonly used to fine-tune and enhance the sound quality in vehicles. Here's what you need to know about graphic equalizers in the context of car audio and electronics:
Functionality: Graphic equalizers allow users to adjust the amplitude (volume) of specific frequency bands within an audio signal. They typically feature a set of vertical sliders or controls, each representing a different frequency band. By moving these sliders up or down, users can boost or cut specific frequencies to tailor the audio output to their preferences.
Frequency Bands: A typical graphic equalizer in a car audio system consists of multiple frequency bands, often ranging from six to 31 bands. Common frequency bands include bass (low frequencies), midrange (mid frequencies), and treble (high frequencies). More bands provide finer control over the audio output.
Sound Enhancement: Car audio enthusiasts use graphic equalizers to fine-tune the sound in their vehicles. They can adjust the equalizer settings to compensate for acoustic characteristics of the vehicle's interior, correct frequency imbalances, and create a more pleasing and balanced audio experience.
Presets: Some car audio systems come with preset equalizer settings for different music genres or listening environments (e.g., "rock," "jazz," "concert hall"). Users can select these presets to quickly optimize the audio for specific scenarios.
Customization: Graphic equalizers also offer the flexibility to create custom EQ settings. Users can adjust the sliders to emphasize or de-emphasize specific frequency ranges based on their preferences. This customization allows for a more personalized listening experience.
Installation: Graphic equalizers are typically installed as part of the car audio system. They can be integrated into the car's head unit (stereo), mounted separately in the dashboard, or installed as external units. Proper installation is essential to ensure effective control over the audio.
Display: Some graphic equalizers feature LED or LCD displays that provide visual feedback, showing the positions of the sliders and the frequency response curve. This display can assist users in making precise adjustments.
Crossover Functionality: Many graphic equalizers also include crossover features that allow users to direct specific frequency ranges to different speakers or subwoofers. This helps optimize audio distribution and prevent distortion.
Boost and Cut: Each slider on a graphic equalizer can typically boost or cut a specific frequency range by a certain number of decibels (dB). The amount of boost or cut available varies depending on the EQ unit.
In summary, graphic equalizers in car audio systems are valuable tools for adjusting and optimizing the frequency response of audio signals. They allow users to tailor the sound to their preferences, compensate for acoustic characteristics, and create a more enjoyable listening experience while driving. These devices come with various frequency bands, presets, and customization options to accommodate different musical genres and individual tastes.

The Rockville REQ231 is an extremely high quality professional rack mountable equalizer. This is a 2 channel equalizer with 31 bands per channel. The main focus on this was sound quality and making it rugged and tough. We wanted to build a professional product that will instantly make a good speaker sound better, and after months of testing we know we did it!
This graphic EQ also has a low cut crossover filter switch, with status LED, that helps remove rumble from mics. Another great feature is the bypass switch, with LED indicator, which is very convenient when doing sound checks.
We added a sub output with frequency controls which is something that we see a need for. Many brands for some odd reason do not give you a sub output and sub controls. We made sure to include this important function.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i connect speakers to the equilizer |
Answer: | Mixer to eq then eq to powered speakers or mixer to eq then eq to amp then amp to unpowered speakers |
Question: | can this EQ to subwoofer |
Answer: | Its good i hve 1 single channel but it qorks great.. |
Question: | Would this work to boost the bass up a good bit in my home 2 channel stereo? I like a lot of bass without a subwoofer |
Answer: | As any equalizer it is just going to help arrange the different frequencies. If you want more bass you should get a subwoofer. What an eq does is re-arrange what power is already there. You could make it sound more bassy by turning down the higher frequencies but that's working backwards. If you want more bass I would suggest using the money to buy a more powerful amplifier. (Or again getting a subwoofer) |
Question: | Is the output for each channel stereo or mono |
Answer: | Mono per side. Use both channel for stereo. For few bucks extra I suggest you to get Behringer EQ instead. Amazon always have great price for those EQ. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work will stock radio |
Answer: | If you use the level control all the way up, yes. I use half way and works just fine, no increasing on noise. You have to “play” with to fine tune. For me it rounds up the sound and makes nice and smooth. I hope that helps. |
Question: | what are the dimensions of this unit |
Answer: | No it does not, you will need to buy two separate pedals for that. Check out the Boss RC-3, and the MXR M85 Bass Distortion. -Steve, Prymaxe LLC |
Question: | what is the output volts on this |
Answer: | The pedal I have for sale doesnt come with a power supply, and the way it's packaged it looks as if you'd have to buy it seperate. The packaging is only large enough for the pedal and nothing else. |
Question: | Does it come with the mounting hardware? Thanks |
Answer: | RCA |

The HQ231 Dual 31-band Graphic EQ is perfect for any live sound application where there is a high feedback potential including monitor mixes, side-fill cabinets or high powered front-of-house mixes situations. The HQ231 features ARTs proprietary FDC Feedback Detection Circuit, with constant Q circuitry capable of delivering a 3 center frequency accuracy. Professional features like LED level metering, selectable 6dB or 12dB slider range, active balanced and unbalanced input output connectors, RFI filters, independent variable Hi Pass low cut and Low Pass high cut filters, variable input level control, passive bypass switch, clip level indicator, ground lift switch, and selectable line voltage switch make it ideal for any professional application or touring system. FDC Feedback Detection Circuit - FDC Feedback Detection Circuitry designed and developed by ART Engineering instantly illuminates an LED on the corresponding EQ band fader with the greatest sustained signal. The LED indicators can immediately show which band corresponds to the feedback frequency, allowing the sound engineer to reduce gain in that band to quickly kill the feedback while having a minimal impact on the sound of the live program material. The FDC also acts as a simple spectrum viewer while the concert proceeds showing where the hot areas are. During system setup and sound check, the FDC may be used to help identify room and sound system resonances. By increasing the gain until feedback, it is easy to identify those frequencies that are likely to be problems. Reducing the gain in these bands helps tune the sound system, and, remove problem areas before the show begins. It also helps increase the gain margin before feedback.
- FDC Feedback Detection Circuit.
- Dual Channel 31-Band Graphic Equalizer.
- Output Level VU Metering on Each Channel.
- Constant-Q Filtering.
- Individual High and Low Pass Filters on Each Channel.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this unit be used with a home stereo receiver using 1/4" to rca adapter cords |
Answer: | It's not an amp. It's a equalizer unit to fine tune music. This unit goes between the head unit and amplifier. Most head units provide 2 volt signal to the amp, this eq will provide 7 volt signal to the amp. |
Question: | are the cables included with this EQ? If not, how much do they cost |
Answer: | If I understand your question correctly then yes, it does have a plug to receive hi-level input from your stereo |
Question: | I received a “three prong vertical” power cord but it does not fit into the back of the unit |
Answer: | Yes each of the 31 bands represents an octave spanning 20Hz to 20kHz. Never tried to turn off the LEDs. They are not real bright but when they flicker it helps to locate the frequency of the feedback. |
Question: | I want to know i put sound to equalizer than go to mixer or go to mixer than go to to equalizer |
Answer: | The HQ231 has XLR, 1/4 TS, and RCA inputs for each channel. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this buffered |
Answer: | It depends on the settingd |
Question: | One note on my guitar—e 7th fret on the a string—hums and booms super loud when played as a single note. will the boss eq take care of that |
Answer: | The 7th fret of the A string is the note E3. It has a frequency of 164.8 Hz. By reducing the bottom 2 sliders, at 100 and 200 Hz, but probably more attention on the 200 Hz, you can reduce the boominess of that note. However, you will also reduce those frequency components in all other notes played. You may be able to adjust an individual pole of your pickup(s) up or down depending on your particular pickup. Or may be able to adjust the pickup height on the Low E side. Again, such adjustments will impact a whole range of notes. Another option would be to find a pedal with a notch filter (such as a Boss AD-5 or AD-2) and use that to target the specific offending frequency. Best first step - make sure your guitar is properly set up by a luthier and discuss this issue with them prior to setup. |
Question: | What is the production year of this pedal |
Answer: | You are going to get varying answers as this pedal is still in production and there are many sellers. There's no guarantee what year you will get. |
Question: | these days i play exclusively clean, mostly with my fingers. my gear is great, but am looking to remove sibilance from my tone. any opinions |
Answer: | I'm guessing your speaking about playing an acoustic guitar, so that is what I will address... I bought this GE-7 to get rid of some nasty frequencies in the mid range of my acoustic guitar set up. Many piezo - electric pick-ups mounted under the saddle tend to over amplify the high frequencies, (string noise, tininess) and it can be tough to dial it out without adversely effecting your over all tone. Give this pedal a try, the GE-7 is bullet proof, and sounds very musical to the ear. Just start by dropping the 6.4k band by 5 dB or so. Small adjustments can make a huge difference. Experiment, have fun and remember that nobody can really tell what sounds perfect to you, but you. I hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the rack "ears" be cut off ? I have a very strict width limit |
Answer: | Any ears can be cut off, but I would be very careful. If you damage the corners, the integrity of the cabinet is gone. |
Question: | If using xlr to rca connector will it make noise |
Answer: | rca connectors are typically noisy on any application. |
Question: | Does this amp have low frequency’s for body shaking bass |
Answer: | It is not an amp. You will need an amp between this and your speakers. This adjusts the bass thru treble in 31 frequency bands from 10-20K HZ. I'd suggest Googling graphic equalizer if you are not sure! |
Question: | Can it be used in a car |
Answer: | At 19" wide and several inches deep, requiring a/c power, I can't envision a situation where it would be practical to use this product in a car. Also, electrical noise from car electronics would be a factor. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with denon avr 2112ci receiver |
Answer: | Yes you can. I only use 2 channel receivers. Not into cinema and avr receivers. I use an external audio source selector. Available on Amazon. Mine handles 3 sources. But selectors with more source inputs are available. I run my sources to the inputs on the selector. Then run the single output to the auxiliary input or in the case of newer receivers, input 1,2 or 3. For my application it works very well. Technically you can connect this eq to your Denon or any other receiver without the in out loop. |
Question: | what would cause this to make an awfull hissing sound ? right now its useless |
Answer: | Trying to diagnose sound equipment is not always easy. A hum usually means a bad ground. A his could be a lose connection or a bad cable. First see if the noise is on both sides or just one. Single side noise try changing a cable from the left to the right to see if the hiss changes sides. If it does change does change out the cable. If the his stays then you have a speaker problem. If the his is on both sides check your ground. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Can I connect this to a yaqin mc-13s |
Answer: | You should beable to if u use aux cables for it |
Question: | Can it be connected straight to a 200 watt am/fm home reciever |
Answer: | Yes it will work very good with all types of recievers And 200 watts that's enuff to do alittle bit on thumppin I also have 200 watt receiver and with ROCKVILLE SOUNDS EVEN GREAT DEPENDED ON UR SPEAKER SIZE I HAVE 2 15 AND 2 SURRENDER NICE |

User questions & answers
Question: | How would you wire this to a head unit that has a front, rear and subwoofer channel? Would you only use the front and rear and toss the other set of r |
Answer: | So with only one input from the head unit does the eq convert it to front and rear sound? What I mean do you loose the rear sound or does it just double and split the front channel? |
Question: | Does this product light up |
Answer: | Yes it lights up blue cleaned up my audio very well |
Question: | Anyone els experiencing a popping noise when you take key out ignition if so any ideas on how i can stop it? I already tried grounding it to radio |
Answer: | Had the same issue with ankther brand EQ. Problem went away when I switched the positive from the EQ and attached it to the yellow cable straight to battery not the red to ignition. That should fix it. |
Question: | How would you do the power wire i see theres one in picture with a fuse but isint that to short |
Answer: | Hello, No the Red wire with fuse holder is not to short. The longer side of the Red wire goes to the Scar SKA7EQ, On Back of the SKA7EQ is the power, ground, and Remote terminal. The Red wire will be extended with a 14awg wire to your power source. Source could be the car battery, or an Accessory fuse circuit of 10 amps 12volts DC current. Extending this red wire is Normal in the audio installation world. The coupling will be needed to successfully butt the two wires together and crimp both sides, if u like install the double red wire size with Heat Shrink Tubbing, then Couple the wires with the "Butt Connector" , slide the heat shrink over it and heat the heat shrink with a Heat Gun, or powerfully hair dryer, then run the Red wire to the Accessory, or Battery positive Red Terminal. The same thing for the ground wire, black wire has no fuse in line so Run from your battery Negative Terminal Black, to the Scar SKA7EQ next to the Red wire, and Tighten it down to the SKA7EQ. The Remote wire is "In the business of Audio Installation" Traditionally Blue, Or Purple, Strip 4mm, or 3/8" and Install it into the Scar SKA7EQ at the R terminal, R stands for "Remote" or "Trigger" this Blue, Or Purple wire goes to your amplifier, and at the amplifier you will see a Positive terminal, a Negative Terminal and the R, "Remote" terminal the Blue or Purple Remote wire tightens onto the amp in the R terminal spot. The wire should be all 14 AWG for this. Wiring your amps u should at least use 4awg for both Power and Ground, Directly to the car/boat/atv Battery. Use small spools of OFC Copper, Red Positive, Black Negative, and Blue/Purple Remote from amazon, You have to have Amplifiers in your system to use the SKA7EQ. Get an Amplifier install kit, plus the three spools of 20ft of 14 AWG Red, Black, Blue from amazon....Good Luck. |

Question: | i dont have rca plugs int he back of my stereo. how i can conect this eq to my stereo thanks |
Answer: | You could probably use a product like this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H94D77V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I use one in a similar application. You would need to add a 3.5mm stereo plug to two RCA cable. |
Question: | I cant get the slide controls to change any kind of frequency. Can you help |
Answer: | There is a button that says EQ , if you do not engage the EQ your in bypass mode and there will be no Equalization . So press that button , but turn the volume to a lower level , because when the the EQ is engaged the volume will bump up . And also make sure your connections are correct, stereo out to EQ in . If your not sure if your hook up is correct refer to you Stereo owners manual. |
Question: | i have a sherwood receiver and yamaha speakers for outside deck, would this eq work for this |
Answer: | Depends upon the inputs and outputs for your receiver. Also depends upon whether your receiver supports an equalizer loop. Also depends upon whether you pipe other sources into your receiver or not. Don't take this equalizer outdoors, of course. |
Question: | How does the spectrum analyzer work |
Answer: | Very pleased....good rich sound |
