12 best audio graphic equalizers

An audio graphic equalizer is an electronic device used to adjust and fine-tune the frequency response of audio signals in various settings, including car audio systems and home audio equipment. It allows users to modify the levels of specific frequency bands to shape the overall sound quality to their preferences. Here's what you need to know about audio graphic equalizers:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of an audio graphic equalizer is to control the tonal balance or equalization of audio signals. It enables users to boost or attenuate specific frequency ranges (bands) within the audio spectrum to achieve a desired sound profile.

  2. Frequency Bands: Graphic equalizers are divided into multiple frequency bands, typically ranging from 5 to 31 bands or more. Each band corresponds to a specific range of frequencies, such as bass, midrange, and treble. The user can adjust the level (amplitude) of each band individually.

  3. Controls: A typical graphic equalizer features a set of sliders or rotary knobs, one for each frequency band. These controls allow users to increase (boost) or decrease (cut) the intensity of specific frequency ranges.

  4. Adjusting Sound: Users can tailor the sound to their liking by emphasizing or reducing certain frequencies. For example, they can boost the bass frequencies for a more pronounced low-end or reduce the high frequencies to mellow out the treble.

  5. Balancing Audio: Graphic equalizers are used to balance audio in situations where the acoustic properties of the listening environment or the characteristics of the audio source need adjustment. This can be in a car, a home audio system, a live sound setup, or in professional recording studios.

  6. Car Audio: In car audio systems, graphic equalizers are often used to compensate for the acoustic challenges of the vehicle's interior and road noise. They help drivers and passengers achieve a more pleasing and balanced audio experience.

  7. Home Audio: In home audio setups, graphic equalizers are used to customize the sound quality to suit personal preferences and room acoustics. They can be integrated into stereo systems, AV receivers, or stand-alone units.

  8. Live Sound: Audio engineers and musicians use graphic equalizers in live sound setups to adjust the sound of microphones and instruments during performances, ensuring a clear and balanced audio output for the audience.

  9. Recording Studios: In recording studios, graphic equalizers are employed during mixing and mastering processes to fine-tune the audio signals and correct any frequency imbalances that may have occurred during recording.

  10. Digital Equalizers: While traditional graphic equalizers use analog circuitry, digital graphic equalizers have become popular due to their precision and versatility.Digital equalizers often offer more bands, presets, and advanced features for precise audio control.

In summary, audio graphic equalizers are versatile tools for adjusting the frequency response of audio signals. They are widely used in various applications, including car audio systems, home audio setups, live sound, and professional audio production environments to tailor the sound to specific preferences and acoustical conditions.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with denon avr 2112ci receiver
Answer: Yes you can. I only use 2 channel receivers. Not into cinema and avr receivers. I use an external audio source selector. Available on Amazon. Mine handles 3 sources. But selectors with more source inputs are available. I run my sources to the inputs on the selector. Then run the single output to the auxiliary input or in the case of newer receivers, input 1,2 or 3. For my application it works very well. Technically you can connect this eq to your Denon or any other receiver without the in out loop.
Question: what would cause this to make an awfull hissing sound ? right now its useless
Answer: Trying to diagnose sound equipment is not always easy. A hum usually means a bad ground. A his could be a lose connection or a bad cable. First see if the noise is on both sides or just one. Single side noise try changing a cable from the left to the right to see if the hiss changes sides. If it does change does change out the cable. If the his stays then you have a speaker problem. If the his is on both sides check your ground. Hope this helps.
Question: Can I connect this to a yaqin mc-13s
Answer: You should beable to if u use aux cables for it
Question: Can it be connected straight to a 200 watt am/fm home reciever
Answer: Yes it will work very good with all types of recievers And 200 watts that's enuff to do alittle bit on thumppin I also have 200 watt receiver and with ROCKVILLE SOUNDS EVEN GREAT DEPENDED ON UR SPEAKER SIZE I HAVE 2 15 AND 2 SURRENDER NICE

User questions & answers

Question: How would you wire this to a head unit that has a front, rear and subwoofer channel? Would you only use the front and rear and toss the other set of r
Answer: So with only one input from the head unit does the eq convert it to front and rear sound? What I mean do you loose the rear sound or does it just double and split the front channel?
Question: Does this product light up
Answer: Yes it lights up blue cleaned up my audio very well
Question: Anyone els experiencing a popping noise when you take key out ignition if so any ideas on how i can stop it? I already tried grounding it to radio
Answer: Had the same issue with ankther brand EQ. Problem went away when I switched the positive from the EQ and attached it to the yellow cable straight to battery not the red to ignition. That should fix it.
Question: How would you do the power wire i see theres one in picture with a fuse but isint that to short
Answer: Hello, No the Red wire with fuse holder is not to short. The longer side of the Red wire goes to the Scar SKA7EQ, On Back of the SKA7EQ is the power, ground, and Remote terminal. The Red wire will be extended with a 14awg wire to your power source. Source could be the car battery, or an Accessory fuse circuit of 10 amps 12volts DC current. Extending this red wire is Normal in the audio installation world. The coupling will be needed to successfully butt the two wires together and crimp both sides, if u like install the double red wire size with Heat Shrink Tubbing, then Couple the wires with the "Butt Connector" , slide the heat shrink over it and heat the heat shrink with a Heat Gun, or powerfully hair dryer, then run the Red wire to the Accessory, or Battery positive Red Terminal. The same thing for the ground wire, black wire has no fuse in line so Run from your battery Negative Terminal Black, to the Scar SKA7EQ next to the Red wire, and Tighten it down to the SKA7EQ. The Remote wire is "In the business of Audio Installation" Traditionally Blue, Or Purple, Strip 4mm, or 3/8" and Install it into the Scar SKA7EQ at the R terminal, R stands for "Remote" or "Trigger" this Blue, Or Purple wire goes to your amplifier, and at the amplifier you will see a Positive terminal, a Negative Terminal and the R, "Remote" terminal the Blue or Purple Remote wire tightens onto the amp in the R terminal spot. The wire should be all 14 AWG for this. Wiring your amps u should at least use 4awg for both Power and Ground, Directly to the car/boat/atv Battery. Use small spools of OFC Copper, Red Positive, Black Negative, and Blue/Purple Remote from amazon, You have to have Amplifiers in your system to use the SKA7EQ. Get an Amplifier install kit, plus the three spools of 20ft of 14 AWG Red, Black, Blue from amazon....Good Luck.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this equalizer support stereo
Answer: Stereo just means a left and right channel as compared to "mono", which means a single channel. So, yes, this EQ does have left and right channels. No, radio or stereo that I know of today has just a single channel, unless it has one speaker.
Question: Where would i find a mounting kit to house this and a single din head unit in a double din opening
Answer: It come with a kit for mounting it to something mines is under my ash trash.
Question: will this run main and aux at the same time because i have a four channel amp and obviously front play diffrent sounds than the rear
Answer: The signal that comes out of your head unit is the same whether it is front or rear (90 percent true). That is why running the two outputs from the head unit to the EQ and then the EQ four outputs to the amp will not change anything. The only sound differential you will have is your fader, tone, treble settings which you can control and adjust with the EQ. NOW THAT BEING SAID. This true for 90 percent of the head units out there. I know my head unit has HPF and LPF filter setting and bass curves for the sub channel. You are losing all those. The only signal signal will be for the two that you hook up to the EQ.
Question: will this fit in a single din dash (2001 chevy silverado) with a deck
Answer: i realize this is an old question but for anyone with a 99-02 silverado, this is for you: you can use a single din head unit with a 1/2 din in dash eq. You simply need to get a dash kit that has single din plus eq. metra used to make one for 1999-2002 silverados but it was discontinued a while ago. the part number is Metra 99-3003. idk if scoche or AI makes or used to make one but i DO know that metra 99-3003 works. you can still find them around the internet. i just bought one for a buddies truck.

EMB - Eqb75 - Dual 10 Band Stereo Equalizer With Spectrum Analyzer

Based on 303 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Product Highlights: Most equalizers used for live sound mixing will allow you to affect frequencies across a variable frequency range. In general, if you’re trying to tune a sound by emphasizing desirable frequencies or pulling back less important frequencies, then you’ll be better off keeping the bandwidth fairly broad. On the other hand, if you’re trying to notch out hum, tame hiss, or carve out some other unwanted sound, then you’ll preserve your overall sound better by narrowing in on the frequencies you want to remove. Once you get into the world of digital mixers, studio-style fully parametric EQs become more common. These equalizers not only allow you to adjust the center frequencies of the mid bands, but they also allow you to dial in the bandwidth to make precise alterations to your sound, boosting board frequency ranges for added warmth or notching out an annoying resonance at 1.5kHz. While this surgical precision can be incredibly useful, it’s important not to get mired in minutia that can take up time you simply don’t have in live music production. That's why we are introducing our best Spectrum Equalizer for the price. It's an all around EQ's that everybody love. Great Sound! Great Light! Technical Details: Dual 10 Bands EQ With Blue LED Four Audio Source Line Input 4 RCA line input 2 RCA line Output Removable Rack Mount Brackets Spectrum Graphic Display Screen 110V/220V Switchable Power Source Dimensions: 16.9'' x 9.3'' x 2''

Answer: No your source is put into the EQ and out to your amp
Question: What are the actual dimensions. Is it 2” or 4” tall
Answer: Around 4" it is a piece of junk I threw mine in the trash. Go to ebay they have lots of equalizers on there.
Question: When in operation, what does the center window display
Answer: The center window is NOT spectrum analyzer. It is one color only, and they all move at the same time. This equipment is junk, it is not worth more then 20.00
Question: Can i hook this up to my home component cd player, or do I need a reciever also
Answer: you can hook this up in line between a component, cd player, going to an amp. this will not power speakers.

Ultra-Compact 9-Band Graphic Equalizer with FBQ

If we all lived in a perfect world, there would be no need for audio equalization. Sound systems would be perfect and would reproduce perfect signals in all their glorious perfection. Also, everyone in that perfect world would like the same amount of bass, midrange and high frequency, and there would be no such thing as feedback. But the world isn't perfect, is it? Even the best sound system can benefit from the use of a good EQ--like the FBQ800.

Even the best sound system can benefit from the use of a good EQ. Click to enlarge.

1/4-inch and RCA inputs and outputs.

Nine steps of graphic EQ.

How Does it Work?

Imagine the frequency range of the sound you hear as a highway, a very wide one with nine lanes. Each of these "lanes" represents a single octave of the sonic spectrum. The first four lanes, labeled 63 - 500 (Hz) contain the really low frequency sound content, mainly bass, bass vocals, and the kick and tom drums. The three lanes labeled 1 k, 2 k and 4 k (Hz), make up the fundamental zone of most musical instruments and the male and female vocals. 8 k and 16 k cover the frequency range of cymbals, snare drums and higher pitched percussion instruments. The FBQ800 allows you to control the flow of audio traffic in each of these nine lanes. When properly applied, EQ makes it possible to hear all of these frequency ranges equally, thus the term equalization.

Feedback Elimination

When a specific frequency, or range of frequencies, reaches too high a level, feedback occurs--that all-too-familiar squeal or howl you get when the mic is too close to the speaker. Basically, feedback happens when there is so much of a particular frequency that it is picked up by the mic and run through the system again. That's why feedback typically gets louder and louder the longer it's allowed to occur. Needless to say, this kind of feedback is very undesirable.

This is where the FBQ800's Feedback Detection System really works its magic. In this ingenious circuitry, LEDs on the individual faders light up when that frequency band is approaching the danger zone. All you need do is lower the illuminated slider until the LED blinks out--voilá, feedback problem solved! What once required a highly trained ear is now an activity that even a child can master.

Sonic Toolkit

That really is the best way to describe the FBQ800. With its nine frequency bands, you easily fine-tune your sound and instantly eliminate feedback. And each fader can be used to boost or cut the frequency range it controls by as much as 12 dB (and that's a lot!).

Special attention is paid to the low frequency zone. In addition to low frequency faders, the FBQ800 features a Low Cut filter for removing unwanted low frequencies such as fl oor rumble, room resonance, electrical hum, etc. This is especially handy if your system is being used for speech rather than music.

To Boost or to Cut, That is the Question

Raising and lowering specific frequency bands can improve the frequency response of any room's acoustics. For instance, if the room you're in is "bass-heavy," lowering the 63 and 125 Hz faders can help eliminate an overall "boomy" or "muddy" sound. Likewise, gently boosting the 8 and 16 k sliders can add sparkle to a somewhat "dark" mix. Are the vocals getting lost in the mix? Raising the level of the 1 k slider can help bring them out.

It's important to note that raising a single fader level is not always the best solution; it's often better to lower the bands surrounding the frequency you want to bring out, and then boost the overall volume level to achieve better headroom.

Built for Accuracy and Reliability

Speaking of headroom, FBQ800's 6-digit LED Input/Output meters and level control are provided for precise level maintenance. Longterm reliability is ensured, thanks to high-quality illuminated faders and switches, and our ultra low-noise audio operational amplifiers provide outstanding sonic performance. In addition, all Mini Series components may be stacked to create an ultracompact signal processing solution.

What's in the Box

Behringer FBQ800 Ultra-Compact 9-Band Graphic Equalizer, Power Supply, User's Manual

  • Ultra-compact 9.5" graphic equalizer for studio and stage applications
  • Revolutionary FBQ Feedback Detection system instantly reveals critical frequencies and can also be used as Audio Analyzer

User questions & answers

Question: What type of cables are required to hook this up between an amplifier and yamaha receiver? Much appreciated
Answer: Both
Question: Can you adjust each channel (left/right) separately
Answer: Nope, the only things lit are the little indicator lights for power +/- 12dbs and something else.
Question: I see many mention that they use this for helping hearing loss by using this unit with headphones. My question is how do you use this with headphones
Answer: They are very clean sounding eqs.
Question: does it connect to amplifier
Answer: First, this is not a player. This is a tone control with instead of just the normal bass, treble and high, divides it into 31 (from 20HZ to 20KHZ). Also, this model is mono (1 channel). You can get 2 of these or get the stereo model. You still need an amplifier and a player. You hook this up between a like a CD player and your amp.
