User questions & answers

Question: Work on battery
Answer: Might work on the plastic case - but I would not use in contact with battery acid
Question: Can this be used to fix a small crack in a dashboard
Answer: Yes! I used it to repair the vacuum
Question: Will this work on hdpe
Answer: I used this on a PVC job and it worked well for that, but I mixed it on a plastic lid that was HDPE (#2 recyclable) before applying it. There was some left on the lid, and after it dried, it pealed right off the lid, so I'm not too sure about using this on HDPE.
Question: I want to bond glass to polypropylene. Does this work? If not any good epoxy that works for this
Answer: I did not know if the plastic bonder would stick to glass, so I tried it on some empty glass jars and old prescription pill bottles which were made of Polypropylene, (type 5 plastic). I cleaned and sanded both the plastic bottles and the glass jars. I applied the JB Weld Plastic Bonder to one sample and also tried PC-11 Marine Power Epoxy Paste on another, (the jars and bottles were put together bottom to bottom). After they had cured I tried to pull them apart. Both the Plastic Bonder and the Epoxy Paste held with light pulls and twists. Both came apart with a medium/heavy pull. Both the Plastic Bonder and the Epoxy Paste stuck tenaciously to the glass jar, and came off cleanly from the plastic bottle. So it does stick to glass rather well, while holding, but not bonding to the Polypropylene bottle. I would try some on your particular application, (a sample), and see if the medium holding power to the Polypropylene will work for you. The Plastic Bonder was much easier to mix and apply than the Epoxy Paste. The Plastic Bonder cured in about two hours while it took 24 hours for the Epoxy Paste to cure. Both had about the same results as far as the holding power, but the Plastic Bonder when mixed is like a gel, while the Epoxy is a much thicker paste, which means you could use it to fill gaps and holes. It was easy to file/sand the Plastic Bonder after it had cured, the Epoxy Paste could be worked after it had cured, but it was much harder to do so.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work on a small engine plastic gas tank
Answer: Actually, the Data Sheet from Loctite states: Chemical and Solvent Resistance: Resistant to water, salt water, unleaded gasoline, diesel fuel and motor oilhttp://www.loctiteproducts.com/tds/EPXY_PLSTC_S_tds.pdfI'd be certain to follow all of the preparation instructions listed in that document though... cleaning, roughing-up. etc.
Question: Depicted on the package is a white polypropylene lawn chair. Will this product do a repair of that item
Answer: I haven't found many plastics to which it will bond, so I'd say no...it would not work. Especially something you expect to hold a person off the ground.
Question: Will this bond hdpe to hdpe
Answer: I disagree. HDPE is a slick nylon-like plastic and this stuff fails miserably on any of those compounds.
Question: What color is it when it dries? Clear
Answer: Hello, I would say it's more grey but one the clear side though. I am not sure if the percentages of the mix makes a difference. I mixed it 50/50. Hops this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Will in work on ldpe tank crack
Answer: Don't recommend it. Polyethylene's are difficult to adhesive bond. Would think thermal welding would be a better choice.
Question: Will this work on kayak cracks
Answer: Possibly. I'm assuming your kayak is molded ABS (Acrylo-Nitrile-Styrene - Royalite, etc.) Clean well with 91% Isopropyl (Rubbing) alcohol and abrade with sandpaper where accessible before bonding. If it's Kevlar, carbon fiber or fiberglass-reinforced epoxy, polyester or other thermoset resin, there are probably better choices to avoid compromising the structure.
Question: Will this bond hdpe to pvc
Answer: Haven't tested it, but suspect not too good. Polyethylene and High Density Polyethylene are both almost as bad as Teflon for bondability. PVC is fine. If you have to do it, rough up the HDPE bind area as much as possible and use 93% isopropyl alcohol to make surfaces grease- free. I believe J-B-Weld Plastic Bonder is a urethane resin (Not Crappy like Gorilla Glue) that I've found works well fur most materials. - pab
Question: Anyone use this on a urethane bumper cover? I have a small hole in an urethane front air dam that I want to fill and repaint. Thanks
Answer: It may work i used it to repair cracks on a plastic golf cart body but you do need to prime it a couple times and resand for it to look good.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this designed for low energy plastic such as polypropylene
Answer: Could’t tell you. I used it to bond two pieces of solid, cast epoxy resin together because they were basically made of the same components. It’s pretty strong so it might melt polypropylene.
Question: will this work polypropylene
Answer: It may work, but the Henkel spec sheet doesn't list it. If you try the Loctite Plastic Bonding System (Amazon 681925) it specifically calls out polypropylene.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this make a strong bond glueing polyethylene and/or polypropylene to itself
Answer: I have used this to glue Teflon to itself, I think PE or PP shouldn't be a problem.
Question: does this bond clear PET plastic
Answer: Loctite's website says its designed for polyethylene plastics so I would give it a try. Other glues that seem to bond anything to anything are the various GOOP glues and E6000, which I prefer because it isn't so thick. GOOP and E6000 are basically the same type of glue (synthetic rubber based) with the latter being a little easier to work with, especially for small components. Both are made by the same company. But I would try the Loctite glue -- it makes a really strong bond. Be sure to follow the instructions EXACTLY and make sure you put a substantial amount of the activator (contained in the pen component) onto both surfaces and wait 20 seconds to dry before applying the glue component to one of the surfaces and putting the parts together. Hold the two parts together for at least 30 seconds to set/cure.
Question: Anyone know what the activator is? Can I use the activator with other glues
Answer: I'm still searching myself--perhaps this will help someone: IF n-Heptane works as an activator to bond plastics, you can buy a pint can of (apparently 100% pure) nHeptane on Amazon for under $14: "BESTINE Solvent and Thinner for Rubber Cement...16 Ounce Can". Amazon's link: https://www.amazon.com/BESTINE-Solvent-Thinner-Rubber-Cement/dp/B004O7HM38/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1534190132&sr=8-1&keywords=heptane&dpID=51xQHaC%252BC6L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch I would very much like to know if this would work as an activator to bond polyethylene to polypropylene using a glue (such as a super glue, and perhaps others)?
Question: What is the real difference between loctite epoxy plastic bonder and loctite super glue plastics bonding system with activator
Answer: The difference is in what you want to bond. Epoxy is a 2 part glue that is mixed in equal parts, it will bond plastics such as ABS, PVC, nylon, and Acrylic which are "NON" waxy plastics. The loctite super glue plastics bonding system is a Cyanoacrylates type glue and can be use on plastics such as polypropylene , HDPE, PE, etc which are a "Waxy" type of plastics.
