| Answer: | This is how much power the crossover attenuates, or "absorbs" before it goes to the tweeter. Every 3dB that a sound is increased or decreased requires double or half the power respectively. So, 0dB allows the full power to hit the tweeter... lets say it's 50W. Most of the time, the tweeter will be way too overpowering and loud in comparison to the rest of the system if you run it at the same power. Therefore, most crossovers allow for attenuation of the highs to balance the system. In this case, connecting the positive lead to the -3dB will reduce the power from 50W to 25W, providing a more balanced sound without having to turn down the gain on your amp. The -6dB just reduces the power by half again, (12.5W in this example) and so on... hope this helps. |

I have two of the DS18 Elite 8 inch subs in my vehicle and had to upgrade to a 3000 watt amp to push two 8's. If you have the power and mounting depth they will work. My 8's hit like 12's, I have yet to have anyone guess the size of my system correctly yet. |
