I pushed the middle of the string through the small hole on the side of the lens cover, then shortened one of the tag ends and tied the shorter one off near the lens cover. Trimmed any excess length off and melted the end to keep it from unraveling. Then with the long tag end, I wrapped it around any recess (between the body and the focusing ring) toward the end of the lens, making sure there was enough length to fit the cover onto the lens. I tied this off with a knot, cut the excess and melted that back too. "f8 & be there."

I have that same lens and have lost and replaced the lens cap several times with whatever 67mm replacements I could find.
