11 best 8 zone speaker selectors
An 8-zone speaker selector is a device used in audio distribution systems to manage and control the playback of audio in multiple zones or rooms within a building. Here's what you need to know about 8-zone speaker selectors:
Purpose: The primary purpose of an 8-zone speaker selector is to distribute audio from a single source (such as a stereo receiver, amplifier, or audio source) to multiple sets of speakers located in different areas or zones.
Zone Control: The "8-zone" designation indicates that the selector can distribute audio to up to eight different zones or rooms. This allows users to play music or audio in specific areas while muting or adjusting the volume in others independently.
Speaker Connection: Speaker selectors typically have terminals or connectors for connecting multiple pairs of speakers. Users can connect speakers from each zone to the selector.
Source Input: These selectors have input connections where you can connect your audio source device, such as an amplifier, receiver, or a central audio distribution hub.
Volume Control: Some 8-zone speaker selectors come with individual volume controls for each zone. This enables users to adjust the audio volume independently in each zone to match the preferences of the occupants.
Impedance Matching: To ensure proper impedance matching and prevent damage to the amplifier, many speaker selectors include impedance-matching technology. This is especially important when connecting multiple pairs of speakers to a single amplifier.
Protection Circuitry: Some models also include protection circuitry to safeguard the amplifier and speakers from potential overload or short-circuit conditions.
A/B or A/B/C Switching: Some 8-zone speaker selectors allow users to switch between different audio sources (A, B, and sometimes C) for each zone. This can be useful if you have multiple audio sources you want to distribute to different areas.
Remote Control: Advanced models may come with remote control capabilities, allowing users to control audio source selection and volume adjustments remotely.
Installation: Speaker selectors are typically installed in a central location, like an equipment closet, where they can be easily accessed and connected to both the audio source and the speakers in various zones.
Multi-Room Audio Systems: 8-zone speaker selectors are commonly used in multi-room audio systems, home theaters, commercial spaces, and outdoor audio setups to provide a seamless audio experience across different areas.
Wiring: Proper wiring is essential when setting up an 8-zone speaker selector. Users should follow the manufacturer's guidelines and consider the gauge and type of speaker wire used for optimal performance.
8-zone speaker selectors offer a convenient and organized way to distribute audio throughout a building or property, allowing users to customize their audio experience in different zones and rooms. They are a valuable component in creating a versatile and immersive audio system.

User questions & answers
Question: | My Yamaha Receiver (750) has A and B speaker outputs. Would I connect the ISS4 inputs to the B outputs and then run 4 separate speaker pairs from the B side of the receiver leaving the A side for the main listening room speakers |
Answer: | It really depends on the type of speaker configuration you have in your main zone. If you have a 5.1 environment in your main zone the best option is to connect the iss4's inputs to the zone 2 terminal on the back of your 750. This will allow you to listen to different sources in each zone at the same time. For instance you could watch a DVD in your main zone and in zone 2 you could be listening to an iPod or the fm tuner. Hope this answers your question, if you choose this option then remember you can only listen to analog sources in a zone 2 setup. |
Question: | I can see how to select zones, how do you select the source? I have a phono amp and home theater amp I need to switch between, one set of speakers |
Answer: | There is an round A/B button next to each rectangular zone button. Undepressed your are selecting source A. Press the button in and you are now selecting source B. |
Question: | Can I run the 6 pairs of speakers at the same time? If this can be done, the volume drops |
Answer: | Of course the volume drops. You will have 6 parallel circuits, each getting 1/6 the current. Basic rules of electricity. |
Question: | I've bought this and I have connected it to 4 zones of in-wall speakers but the volume is extremely low! Do I need a receiver before the input |
Answer: | What are you powering the speakers with?? In an ideal setup this device would be connected after the stereo amplifier or a/v receiver. It's is recommended to have an power source of at least 50W per channel supplying power to this volume selector. If you have impedance matching volume controls make sure the protection circuit button is in the off position(pushed out). If you have no volume controls push the circuit protection button in so that it equalizes the impedance. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will fit on slider rack shelf with 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep? thank you |
Answer: | Good question. There are two things you should know before you pull the trigger on this. Banana plugs don’t insert far enough to stay put, and since I have this box hooked up to amplified speakers I kept getting a buzz. I bought special banana plug pig tails which I ended up removing because of said problem. What did work very well for me was to remove the banana plugs and strip and solder the speaker wires then tighten the threaded part against the inserted wire in the hole on the shaft, a very tight connection and that worked great. The other issue is you can’t turn off one the speakers which was reported in one of the comments. It is annoying but for my application one set of speakers is downstairs with their own volume control so, I just adjust the volume on them when in use. Hope this helps. |
Question: | I don't understand the description. what does the a /b button at each speaker volume control mean? doesn't the speaker pairs selected play together |
Answer: | Hi, I have one of these (returning the 1st one due to poor speaker terminal , I find that it will accept a 4mm and thicker Banana Plug. Amazon's model was poor fit, but MediaBridge's plug in more securely. I have not fully connected my XtremePro yet, but I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can the speaker connectors take banana plugs as opposed to threading the wires |
Answer: | I may not be understanding your question correctly, but with this item I am using the volume control on my amp for the front speakers and the volume on this device to control the volume on the rear speakers. So yes, I can set one set of speakers at a different volume that the other. Again, if I am understanding your question correctly. |
Question: | So I can hook up 4 sets of speakers on my new Pyle unit all on one receiver without worry of damage? Looked like chart had impedence fall off to |
Answer: | Yes as far as I can tell. Aka-when I only have on speaker on and flip the switch to turn another group on, the volume drops. It’s not necessarily half the volume though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this on two sets of speakers, one set for front height & second set for side surrounds and switch between the two. Is it possible |
Answer: | While you can connect up to four pairs of speakers, this device will not work as a surround sound device like having front, rear, center channels like a Dolby or DTS system. This only splits a stereo signal to multiple pairs of the same exact stereo signal.Hopefully this helps. |
Question: | Does this switch allow me to control sets of speakers independently |
Answer: | You can control up to 4 sets of speakers independently or play all at the same time! I have switch A for patio speakers, switch B for inside house, sometimes I play A or B or A+B |
Question: | One person indicated what they believed the protection button was. Does anybody know? Pyle technical support apparently doesn't exist |
Answer: | In modern amplifiers the protection button is actually used to simulate a safe ohm load to the amplifier, not mask the lack of a load. When you connect multiple speakers of certain ohm ratings in series or parallel, it alters the ohm load presented to the amplifier. The switch allows you to attach multiple speaker sets while presenting and "buffering" a consistent/safe ohm load instead of the actual load. 2 x 8 ohm speakers in parallel on the same channel would show up as 4 ohm (divide ohm rating of speaker by number of speakers), which could cause your amplifier to fail (it needs to work harder) if not designed to drive speakers with that ohm rating. If you are using more than 2 pair of 8 ohm speakers simultaneously you would turn on the protection mode to present an ohm load of ~4 ohm instead. Most protection solutions present a 4.5 ohm load in this scenario. Understand that ohm loads are AC and thus are constantly fluctuating during playback. Speaker ohm levels typically will "change" @ different volume levels etc. Low impedance allows for a more efficient electric signal. Typically speakers are rated 4, 6 or 8 ohms. Lower end receivers can sometime have issues driving low impedance 4 or 2 ohm speakers. |
Question: | How do I hook this up to my 5.1 receiver |
Answer: | Hello Dan,This device is for other areas of a home where you have additional speakers and is not made to be used with the surround sound system. It can be used with "Stereo Receivers" or with 7.1 A/V Receivers where your only using the 5.1 portion of the receiver. What that means is if you have a surround sound system in your home, then all the speaker outputs of the receiver are dedicated to the surround sound and at that point there are no more speaker terminal outputs to be used. However, if your receiver is a 7.1 A/V receiver and your only using it as a 5.1 Surrond Sound System, then you will have 2 additional speaker outputs that aren't being used.At that point you can attach those terminals (via 2 speaker wires a left & a right) to the Pyle 4 Channel Speaker Selector. Now connect the other rooms to the outputs on the Pyle Speaker Selector. ***Make sure you have the correct speakers paired to each individual room when you connect these wires. You can easily determine this by taking a battery from your remote control and placing the ends of the speaker wires to the battery. Positive end of the wire + to the positive end of the battery and the negative end off the same wire to the negative end of the battery, You can hold the negative wire tight to the battery with your thumb while you release and then retouch and release and retouch the positive end a few times. you should hear a popping sound coming out of the speaker. This will let you know which wire goes to which speaker in which room or area. I usually use a "Sharpie" Marker and label the wire "Living Rm" or "Dining Rm" or what ever the room is that the wire goes to. *****Now, and this is most important or you will "FRY" your Pyle unit, make sure the negative wire that is connected to the Pyle output is the same negetive wire that is connected to the speaker terminal in the room where that wire goes and the positive does the same. IF YOU CROSS THE WIRES AND PUT THE NEGATIVE WIRE IN THE POSITIVE TERMINAL, YOU MOST LIKELY WILL GET BAD RECEPTION TO THAT SPEAKER OR FRY (DAMAGE) THE PYLE UNIT AND MAYBE EVEN YOUR RECEIVER. ALSO, MAKE SURE NO BRAIDS OFF OF THE SPEAKER WIRES TOUCH THE CHASSIS OF THE RECEIVER OR EACH OTHER. THIS WILL SHORT THE UNIT.Finally, you may have to go into the setting of your A/V Receiver and select the "Speaker Settings" and scroll to where the "Surround Back" or "Zone 2" Speaker set up is and select "NO". This will deactivate the use of those speakers to be used in the room where the Surround Sound is and will allow them to be used for "Stereo Music" to other rooms. In about 90-100% of all A/V Recievers have to use "Analog" or "RCA Cables" from the device you want to hear the music or sound from in the rooms that the Pyle is hooked up to. FM Tuner (or radio stations), Pandora and Internet Radio Stations are already incorporated in the receiver and will play with no problem. Now just select "Zone 2" on the Receiver and press the "Input" selection you want to hear in those other rooms. Raise the Zone 2 Volume Level for those rooms and you should hear music or audio. Please note that some receivers have a time period of 5-6 seconds for you to do these steps, so when making your audio selection and volume level, know where your audio selection button is that you want before performing these steps or your Receiver timer will time out and you will have to permorm them again. It can be frustrating at first for a novice. It was for me. Sometimes still is. LOLA couple of things to know. I would only use this device if I had "Individual Volume Controllers" in each of the rooms or areas where I want Music or Sound. If you don't, then the "volume level" will be the same in all those areas. Volume Controls allow you to do what they say, they can "Control" the volumes level. If the Music or Sound is too High in one room, it might be too Low in an other room. Volume Controls correct that.If you don't have individual Volume Controls in the rooms where your speakers are, then you want to purchase the Pyle Home PSPVC4 4-Channel High Power Stereo Speaker Selector with volume Control. http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PSPVC4-4-Channel-Speaker-Selector/dp/B0013CH7UK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376744129&sr=8-1&keywords=Pyle+Speaker+Selector+with+Volume+Controls If you have any issues getting the sound to pass through Zone 2 of your Receiver, contact the units manufacturer and ask for tech support.I hope this helps.Ken Nichols, PresidentSIGHTS & SOUNDS OF SOUTH FLORIDA, INC.3801 Environ Blvd.Fort Lauderdale, FL 33319305-788-1895 |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this replace my Pyle Pro PT |
Answer: | No, not the devices have the same functions! |
Question: | Ok, I bought the PT510 amplifier, and the PSPVC6 speaker selector, but not sure how to connect them together. Can anyone help |
Answer: | Ok I'm going to try and keep it simple. Normally, once the amp is connected the 'sound' travels out of the red/white or left/right speaker connectors that are attached then to the speaker system. In your case, think of the speaker box as a 'conjunction' (like the words 'and/ but' in a sentence)..so just connect the 'speaker out' on your amp to the 'speaker in' on the speaker selector box...then connect the speaker box to the 6 speakers...be ready with a small flat head screw driver to open each the speaker connection ports...it's a bit more tedious but assures a professional non clip in/out connection...good luck...and make sure every thing is off to avoid 'blowing out' of the speakers and/or unit. |
Question: | Does this have impedance protection - control against low ohms driving multiple speakers |
Answer: | http://manuals.pyleusa.com/PDF/PSPVC4-6.pdf The last few pages of manual shows impedance of turning on combinations of speakers It is the amp that needs to be 4 ohm stable, I have a Denon AVR 3300 and AVR 2500. The more speakers active, the lower the impedance, (ohms Law) and the more power needed from the amp According to Crutchfield, we need a 4 ohm stable amp, and the Denon family provides overload protection, and the Denon amps have a 8 ohm (default) and a4 ohm setting I already fried an Onkyo amp, running all the speakers at once, for an extended period. |
Question: | Is the Pyle PT510 240 Watt Amplifier a good receiver to use with this. I want to put sound in many rooms in my office |
Answer: | I am by no means an AV expert. This amplifier was recommended to me by our AV guy in order to amplify the sound for distribution into several rooms in which we have speakers. We primarily use this amp in connection with an Apple TV device to play music from our iPhone or iPad in our kitchen, den, family room and outside speakers. Hope this response is helpful for you. Kind Regards, Robert |

User questions & answers
Question: | Also anyone experience problems with it maintaining an 8 ohm load with the volume knobs set to different levels? I've heard thats a common problem |
Answer: | Absolutely Laurie, that is one of the things I liked about this speaker it is very universal on speaker mounting and sound positioning angles as I wanted to be able to point them downward from the higher locations. I definitely recommend these as an (addition) to an existing surround system. |
Question: | Can I use this to power a sub woofer through one of the channels |
Answer: | This is a single speaker. (I bought 1 and learned that so I bought another)It is worth the price for a pair. They are pretty good above 75-80hz and handle mids and highs well. They take a 30-40w amp. I like them for the money. |
Question: | Is this speaker selector Autofromer based or Resistor based |
Answer: | They lock perfectly. Not very strong sound, but for some music they do the job well |
Question: | I don't see a power cable? Does it not require any |
Answer: | Speaker wire is NOT included. You will need your own wire to connect to an amp / receiver. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am installing in-wall speakers in multiple rooms. My question is what is the best cheapest in-wall volume controller that would work with this speaker selector |
Answer: | There is no difference in for the install if you mount speakers in the wall or ceiling. |
Question: | Several questions, How do you hook it to your stereo, I am hard of hearing so I hooked 3speakers to my stereo system, this is hooked to my tv when I turn it up some times it turns off by it self I do not understand that I would like more speakers all the 5 star reviews makes this product sound real good. the receiver |
Answer: | I think so. They mount with a screw and clamp. The screw is accessible behind the removable front grill. The speaker comes with a template so you know what size to cut out in the wall or ceiling. After you insert the speaker into the recess, as you turn the screw, it tightens the clamp onto drywall, securing it in place. Although it is designed for drywall, I think it will work on anything with approximately the same thickness (~3/4 inch thick). |
Question: | How Do You Hook A PSS6 Speaker Selector To A Pyle PCAU46A |
Answer: | I would recommend a 5.1 home audio receiver. |
Question: | can i play all 6 speakers at the same time |
Answer: | The pyle pta44bt would be a good amp for the speakers. |
