User questions & answers
Question: | im trying to make my own test leads for different applications, will these work/fit with a voltmeter |
Answer: | Depends. It should fit as the multimeters use standard banana plug socket innerds, but for years commercial test leads have no longer used bare plugs because of the hazards associated with accidental contact which would be shockingly dangerous if working with high voltage (yes, these meters are routinely used in high voltage electrical applications - my meter carries a CAT III rating for use with 1000V, CAT IV for 600 V). BUT, I mainly use my meter on ham radio stuff and sometimes on cars - all low voltage DC applications.I just ordered these to make a current (amperage) test rig with Anderson Power Pole sockets. Again, I stress that I am working with voltage running significantly less than 30V (sometimes 24 V systems in aviation or other automotive systems), but I will wrap the plug bodies in heat shrink insulation to minimize likelihood of contact. |
Question: | I've read that these plugs can accept 12-18 AWG wire; however, I'd like to know what you all have used/what is working best |
Answer: | I use 12 gauge on my fronts and 14 on my surrounds with no issues. The 12 gauge was a little difficult to get wrapped back around and then screw down, but I really don't know of any banana plug that would we easier, without going to the kind where they use a screw to fasten. This is the easier, cleaner look in my opinion! |
Question: | The description says: "Can accept bare wire and spades. " How do you connect spades |
Answer: | As PCKIDZ replied, this is a two function connector. The banana plugs are pushed into the hole in the end.If you unscrew the barrel which is knurled, the smaller shaft is exposed, where you can slip on your spade lug and then tighten the knurled shaft to secure the lug. |
Question: | whats the differance between open screw and closed screw banna plugs |
Answer: | "Open Screw" type plug (side wire) allows for daisy chaining or stacking additional banana plugs to the back. This is desirable in DJ applications if you're running a speakers in parallel and if your amp can handle the low impedances. Closed Screw type has the wire at the back. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I buy last time this banana plugs for my receiver denon avr 6500h i try to inserted but it can't go through i thought this standerd for avr &spea |
Answer: | When new, the plugs are somewhat of a tight fit. Hold the AVR and push firmly. They will fit. |
Question: | My Yahmaha amplifier has flip/squeeze plugs, not the round ones I'm seeing here. Will these work |
Answer: | I tried it on a flip style and they were too big. The measurement of the plug is 0.15" or 3.85mm at the tip, at the widest 0.20" or 5.3mm. Your flip connectors may be larger than my example, a quick msr of the max gauge wire you can use will answer. |
Question: | Can i use these plugs with the speaker cables "rattlesnake 6" with a profile of 6mm^2? or what plugs are to prefer for these cables |
Answer: | This would not work with your speaker cables as FOSCBL-2312 is 4mm. Hope this helps. Thank you. |
Question: | is this a 4mm plug |
Answer: | Yes you are correct, this is a 4mm Banana plug. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which end of the banana do you plug it into |
Answer: | The top, where the stem attached to the tree -- where you normally start peeling the banana. But, no need to peel first before using these, as they will plug right into the stem. |
Question: | which is thicker a 12 gauge wire or a16 gauge wire |
Answer: | I read somewhere that says the gauge number is actually a fraction of an inch. So the higher the fraction the smaller the wire. e.g. 1/12" is larger than 1/16" |
Question: | Is the banana plug the same as an rca plug |
Answer: | No. It's a single conductor. |
Question: | The female connection each plug is said to have is hard to visualize. Is there a picture demonstrating its use |
Answer: | It is pretty simple. You should have a whole in the middle of where your speaker wire hooks in. Instead of using raw wire you can attach it to the plug and then plug it in the receiver jack. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these fit most recievers, or are they too large, like some say in reviews? I dont know what to trust |
Answer: | I have a High-End Denon and these plugs work just fine. They have a nice heft to them. You'll see. I was pleasantly surprised when I recieved them. A special note: I dont know what gauge wire you are planning on using. I bought 8 awg wire and it barely fits in these plugs. 12 awg or smaller will give you ZERO problems. Don't sweat the petty reviews. I assure you these bad boys are WELL WORTH THE MONEY! |
Question: | Will these work well with klipsch speakers and denon av receiver |
Answer: | They should work very good with Klipsch speakers but may be to big in diameter for the Denon Receiver. They were to big to fit into my 1980's Kenwood 9400 Receiver speaker outputs. Randy |
Question: | I see the gold plating but what is the base connector material, brass or something else |
Answer: | Kay,As I draft this response I am holding one of these darlings. The flyer that comes in the box doesn't state the make up of the base material, however I can say it is very heavy for it's size and if I had to guess I'd say it is brass. The silver collar you see in the picture appears to be aluminum with a rubber grip, but the interior of the collar itself appears to be brass as well. The manufacturer provides customer support contact info on the flyer:Customer Support:Phone: 856-216-8222E-Mail: [email protected] hope that helps. |
Question: | Do these work with speakers that have the "push in" type of connectors and not the binding plug like the back of a receiver |
Answer: | Depends on which type of "push-in" connector you mean... there's the (square) "spring terminal" connector that is most common in speakers and has a small hole for inserting the cable, and there's also the newer (circular) "push-in binding post" that will accept either the banana plug or the bare cable. |

Get the most out of your home audio system by ensuring the best connection from your speaker cable to your receiver with the Sewell deadbolt banana plugs. Using self crimping teeth These plugs provide a simple, secure, and low profile connection without requiring soldering or screws. These 1.6” inch plugs are extremely low profile making it so you can put your speakers or receiver closer to the wall. Unlike other banana plugs that use low quality metals like zinc alloy The Sewell deadbolt banana plugs use pure copper and high Quality brass with 24K Gold plating. Installation one of the best things about the deadbolt banana plugs is that installation is quick, secure, and requires no tools. Just follow these steps. Feed the cable through the bottom piece. Push the cable back over the teeth on the bottom piece. Screw the top piece to the bottom one. You're finished. All in all you should only need 10-20 seconds for this entire operation. What are banana plugs? Today, many electronics use the banana plug interface, also known as binding post (referring to This connection in its female form). this female binding post connection that accepts this banana plug is found commonly on virtually all audio/video receivers, speaker wall plates, and more. Banana plugs offer an alternative to inserting a bare speaker wire into the equipment. Often a bare speaker connection is not as reliable as a guaranteed banana plug connection. Wires tend to get pulled out or frizzy after time passes. Banana plugs require only one install, giving you a permanent and robust connector at the end of your speaker wire.
- 24k Gold Plating on Connector and Crimping Teeth
- Fast Lock technology makes it easy for self crimping a reliable connection.
- Heavy Duty Brass Casing for maximum durability
- Wider base minimizes shorting for maximum signal transfer.
- Maximum Wire Size 8 AWG (10 AWG suggested)
User questions & answers
Question: | Are these 4mm or 2mm diameter pins. I need 2mm but none of the good banana plugs are labeled |
Answer: | 4mm. All banana plugs come in one standard size. |
Question: | Can i use these on a 12v system as power feeds? if so how many amps? looking for at least 15a on 12v |
Answer: | That should work fine on a 12v power supply, we use those plugs for a similar purpose on the variable power supply that we have here in the lab. |
Question: | Can I use with 18 gauge speaker wire |
Answer: | Yes 18 gauge stranded wire will work fine. |
Question: | I have the old style speakers that have the connection that you press to push the speaker wire into. Will this work with the new style plugs |
Answer: | If you are asking if the banana plug will fit into the connectors you push the speaker wire into then the answer is probably no. For that type of connector I would consider coating the ends of the speaker wire with a thin layer of solder once the ends are in good shape so they will be easier to connect and disconnect. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would these be a tighter fit on the back of my car receiver where i have 3 ( sets ) of rca outputs and of course 2 amps |
Answer: | You can't replace RCA plugs with banana plugs. Two different animals. RCA carries the signal in the center plug and ground on the outer portion. Banana plugs are just one connection, not two. |
Question: | Will this fit polk speaker t15 and t |
Answer: | Will fit any make speaker or receiver with with banana plug setup |
Question: | are these compatible with an early 1990's yamaha receiver and yamaha speakers |
Answer: | Possibly. It fits mine which is a Yamaha RX-V730 Av receiver. |
Question: | Is the body conductive? Is there a danger of accidental shorting out |
Answer: | I got home today and ohm'd them out. Yes they are conductive from the gold banana plug to the silver colored metal jacket. Again they fit pretty snug into the banana plug receptacles on the amp and they are far enough apart I'm not worried about them getting shorted. Unless your dropping metal on them or something like that they should be fine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you connect these to a 12 volt "go Box" cover |
Answer: | I do not know what a "go box" is. |
Question: | When you disconnect the plugs, isn't it easy to short them by touching each other? looks like the whole piece is the same conductor |
Answer: | If I understand your question correctly, once the plugs are disconnected from the receiver, there is no signal going through them, therefore no danger of short. You shouldn't be connecting or disconnecting the speakers with the unit on. Actually more likely to short out trying to install using bare wire connections instead of banana clips. The clips cover the bare wire so no chance of a stray strand or two shorting across the back of your component. |
Question: | I have used open screw plugs for years; are there any substantial advantages to the closed screw type |
Answer: | The big advantage is when installed correctly, you won't have any chance of stray wires sticking out. So then less chance of shorting the wires. On 14 gauge and smaller wire, it shouldn't be that hard to do to install correctly, easily. On 12 gauge wire, the maximum recommended for the monoprice plugs, the insulation doesn't fit very well into the body of the plug, so you just have to strip more insulation off to get it to go easier. One possible downside to them is that the wires stick straight out the back instead of coming out of the side. If you have wall mount speakers with a narrow clearance, that could be an issue. But you could get the open screw style to fix that. At the receiver, it was beneficial to me. |
Question: | How do you connect these (closed and open type) to the speaker wire |
Answer: | First I unscrew the banana connector, splice the wire and stick the open wire through the hole and fold it over the threading, then I screw the banana connector back together. I use two pairs of vise grips as it gets a little tough screwing them back together by hand since the wire catches the threads on the banana connectors. Hope this helped |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a bunch of these banana plugs. tips are screwable. my tips are too thin, and wobble in the loudspeakers terminal. can i buy only thicker tips |
Answer: | If you are looking for just the larger tips to add to your existing banana plugs, I have never seen the tips sold separately. |
Question: | Cab i plug them on denon 3600 av |
Answer: | I've used them on Marantz and Onkyo w/out prob. Pretty standard size. |
Question: | How long are these plugs |
Answer: | Dear customer, The WG-3333 banana plug length is 1.69 inch . WGGE |
Question: | Has anybody used these with CL3 12 or 14 gauge? How snug does each channel wire fit into the insertion end of this connector |
Answer: | 12 awg is as big as you want to go in these depending on the size of the jacket on the wire. I had to use a bit of flux on some of them to get the jacket to slide in to the end. I have also used 18 awg with these and find that its a bit small of wire for these to work but they did work. I would say 16 is as small as I would run these with. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will these work with onkyo receiver and klipsch speakers |
Answer: | It depends on the speaker. My RB-61s have capped binding posts, so I used the mediabridge spade connectors. My Onkyo TX-8270 has banana plug posts, though. I think they all do. |
Question: | Can you tell me the actual length of the shank? i see the overall length is 1.6 but i had ordered the deadbolt banana plugs and the shank is to long |
Answer: | I do not know the actual length of the shank however they do fit in standard banana jacks. If your banana plugs are too shallow then they are not true or standard banana jacks but maybe something less or older equipment. these do fit standard plug of 5 way binding posts. |
Question: | Will these speakers work with a pyle pttcsm70bt bluetooth stereo system? the speakers are connected to the console by rca plugs |
Answer: | No. These are for what is refered to as a component type recievers and amps with screw type terminals. They only connect one wire per spe2. RCA plugs are both connections at one plug. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions of the male end? circumference & diameter |
Answer: | Hi, these are "standard of the industry" banana plugs - diameter of the male end is 4 mm - it is standard. For some computer and laboratory applications, you may have 2 mm (very small), for audio/DJ/PA - if it is a "Banana Plug", it is 4 mm (millimeter). It will mate into "Banana Terminal Posts" on the back of amplifiers or back of your speakers. It is all standard. Hope it helps, Ciao, L |
Question: | I received a 12 pack of these but found a couple without screws. Can i get extra ones |
Answer: | Not sure. And since you brought it up thanks I'm going to check the rest of mines. Never thought to! |
Question: | The jacket of this plug is condusive, so if they touch, my system is prone to shock. Would heat shrink around the jacket help add protection |
Answer: | Heat shrink wouldn't be necessary. These are meant to plug into the red and black posts in the back of your receiver and speakers. There wouldn't be any electrical shock, but would get feedback or potentially damage your speakers if touching other wired speaker connections. |
Question: | How do you unscrew these? I'm about to throw them all away |
Answer: | They unscrew opposite the direction you'd expect. Looking down at the metal tip, turn the metal clockwise or the turn the shell counter-clockwise. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these work with 12 gauge speaker wire |
Answer: | yes. I used them with Monster cable heavy speaker wire, plenty of room to make connection. They are excellent quality. |
Question: | do they fit in spring clip |
Answer: | I have one older set of speakers that I used these with and the do fit--just. Pretty tight and not sure best use as if the spring clip breaks or no longer has enough tension will not work later w bare wire. If you want to use connectors rather than bare wire get "pin" style connectors instead. |
Question: | Is the outer barrel made of metal or an insulated material |
Answer: | metal |
Question: | Will these work with 10 gauge speaker wire |
Answer: | Yes it should work fine with 10 gauge. |
