Answer: | No. The dimension of the screw is much larger than that of the magnet mount. Plus the size/resistance of the fiber glass antenna to the wind would make your magnet unstable. I do recommend the fiberglass over the one you currently have however. A couple of drill holes and a 90° adjustable connector will keep the antenna low profile when not in use. Answer: | Most police, fire and aircraft are within range, not exactly sure what a SDR USB receiver is. However, where I use it more is just above 470mhz. SWR is 1.1 I can tx and rec from my repeater which is 48 miles and on the opposite side of a hill with normally no issues. Hope this was helpful |

Answer: | No. The reason for the 2-band utilization of this single antenna is harmonics (of wavelength in this case). It would work just mediocre on receive (almost any antenna of 50-ohm can be used for receiving, it's just a matter of how well it will work), but would not work properly on transmit and would likely burn out your finals in the radio if you tried to use it for transmitting after a few minutes (too much power would be reflected back into the radio). Don't buy this for 164-166 MHz. Find the correct antenna. |

Answer: | This antenna takes the larger PL259 coax ends, as found on most 50 Ohm coaxial cables. I ordered that from Amazon as well. Radio Shack has the cables in 20 foot and 50 foot a bit cheaper, but doesn't seem to be the same quality as what Amazon has. As far as the pipe goes, the mounting bracket that comes with the antenna will handle 1 inch to 2 inch pipe. I split the difference with 1-1/2 inch pipe. |

Answer: | Hi Gadget,They are both wide-band HF-VHF-UHF receive antennas. They are full broadband for receive only (like for a scanner) and are both optimized for Amateur Radio bands for transmitting. For transmitting, the 1410 is limited to VHF & UHF frequencies at 200W max. The 1411 will transmit on all three bands with 300W max on HF and 200W max on VHF & UHF; this one has tuned radials and an additional vertical whip for HF. Answer: | I seriously doubt that ATAS-120A would work with this mount. First, the connector here is a CB mount connector and not UHF connector. Second, ATAS 120A requires direct connection to the body of the vehicle since the antenna is tuned by DC current and not AC. Unlike RF, DC cannot pass through the rubber and roof paint. |

Answer: | For a 2m/70cm antenna, you do not need this beefy of a mount. A 1/4 wavelength antenna is about 19 inches high. I use a Diamond MR77 mag mount that works great. If you were to use a 5/8 wavelength 2m antenna, something like a 5" mag mount would be good. This is more suited to a 7 1/2 foot HF type fiberglass whip or "maybe" one of the CB whips. I have one as a backup and like it. As of this writing, my primary HF antenna is a series of MFJ Hamtennas and a Diamond K-400 mount. Just make sure with this mount that you minimize capacitive reactance as good as possible if running HF or with an amp. I would put two mix 31 toroids in-line with about 6 turns each to make sure there is no RF on the coax if you use it for HF. For a 2m/70cm antenna, don't worry about any chokes. And also, for 2m/70cm, you do not need anywhere near the ground plane that HF requires. |

Answer: | Rubber covers would increase capacitive reactance...defeating any ground plane your car could offer as the other half of the antenna. The mount needs to make contact with the metal in order for the vehicle to serve as the other half of the antenna. While I'm sure it would have some effectiveness being close to the metal, it will not establish a ground properly. It does have a Mylar film on the bottom of the magnets, but moisture and scratches will get under any mag mount. Over time, any mag mount will rust around the edges where the Mylar film meets it. Some the contaminants are regular grit and grime, while some is brake dust and other components. I have this as a backup mount for vacations in other cars, etc. It would be possible to use it as a base antenna mount if 1/4 wavelength radials were fun out from the base. I use a Diamond K-400 mount as my primary mount. The mount is only part of the equation. It requires a decent antenna. My own antennas are an inexpensive answer. I use MFJ Hamtennas (fiberglass whips) for each HF band I use. They are about 7 1/2 feet high, but with a quick disconnect, it is closer to 8 feet high, plus the height of what they are mounted on. I would like a Scorpion screwdriver antenna if I had a spare $900 laying around... Any mag mount is only so strong. If mounted on the roof, I would recommend a cable to your rack in case you have a frontal collision. The mount would turn into a missile. That super grip is on thick metal in the ham radio or CB store. While it seems like a strong mount when you are trying to pull it loose from the roof of a car, it is in fact not nearly as strong. |

Answer: | I am amateur radio operator N8VJM. I use antennas like this one and its "Big Brother" the 8' (co-phase) version. They tune up well enough to be used on 2 m (144-148 MHz Amateur Radio Band) a-well-as on 70 cm (420–450 MHz Amateur Radio Band). I run up to 50 watts without damaging the finals in my transceivers and more power with external amplifiers. GMRS and FRS have many channels at power levels of 5 w and lower, but some are as high as 50 w. Don't be fooled by thinking that SWR readings are an accurate measure of how useful an antenna and transmission line system are. The gain you achieve with a 46" antenna (in this case) should far outweigh the losses of the mismatch (as shown by higher-than-normal SWR) versus a 6.3" plain whip intended for GMRS/FRS use. I don't gamble, but I would be willing to bet money that people in-the-know (experienced radio operators, techs, and engineers) are using similar antennas successfully. The seller cannot recommend that you try using this antenna OOB (out-of-band) because they would then be liable if it didn't work well for you or damaged your equipment. You might even try a split ferrite bead about 6 or 7 inches down the coax from the antenna. It should serve to lower your SWR to protect your finals and may even improve performance. Bottom line, this is a $40-something antenna. I think you can probably shell out that much for an experiment. Worse case scenario, sell it on eBay for just about what you paid for it (if it doesn't work well for you). |

Answer: | Yes. The antenna can be broken down into two halves, and the antenna inside the hard (and quite durable outer casing) is adjustable. The inner antenna connect in the middle and the connector is tightened with a provided hex wrench. The casing has screw together connector that can be tightened by hand. By the way, the antenna has markings to show exactly where the two halves come together for a very close if not spot on swr. I followed the indicator and had a low ratio. |
