Answer:	Hi, I did not pay attention to that part too much, because many leather shoes anyway has some sort of that type of smells. It might be stronger than others though. But it disappeared after wearing for a few times. I guess this product would be made in some country in South East Asia, but with this price, I weighed all potential risk and still think worth. One thing I noted - this leather is not stiff enough. Getting softer. Easy to wear but will not last more than 1~2 year if you wear every other day. I have several leather (including +$600 from Europe) and can see how leather quality matters. Still...this price, I really think this shoes is a good buy (I am thinking to get one more pair). I got a similar coloring of shoes from Cole Haan but it costed more than $70 and leather (sneak skin) part gets dirty so quickly.

Answer:	That is correct. The insole isn't glued in, it just has a snug fit. It is part of the reason I wear these shoes. They were recommended to me by an seasoned shoe salesperson in one of those specialty stores because I was looking for a good dress shoe where I could replace the insole with a gel insole. This makes them feel like a nice pair of tennis shoes even though I am wearing them with a suit and tie! I learned that all Rockports are like this and it is a big selling point for me.
