Answer:	The phone case itself is slightly raised around the face of the phone. Further, the case is designed so that the front of the phone faces into the holster and is fully protected. That said, if desired to have the phone facing out, the holster can function in that way as well. I have been using this and similar case/holster sets for a couple of years now (most always with phone facing in) and have dropped the phone several times, both in and out of the holster and have never had any problems with damage (noting that I also use a high quality screen protector).
