11 best genealogy genealogies
Genealogy, often referred to as family history or genealogies in the plural form, is the study and documentation of one's family lineage and ancestry. It involves tracing and recording the relationships between individuals across generations, uncovering their origins, and documenting their life stories. Here are some key points related to genealogy:
Research Methods: Genealogists use a variety of research methods and sources to trace family history. These include official records such as birth, marriage, and death certificates, census records, military records, immigration documents, wills, and probate records. They also use oral history, family Bibles, letters, and photographs as valuable sources of information.
Online Databases: The digital age has revolutionized genealogy research. Numerous online databases and resources, such as Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, and MyHeritage, have made it easier for individuals to access and search for historical records and build their family trees.
Family Trees: A family tree is a visual representation of a person's ancestry, typically organized in a tree-like structure. It shows the connections between individuals, with the oldest generation at the top and subsequent generations branching out below.
DNA Testing: DNA testing, such as autosomal DNA, Y-DNA, and mitochondrial DNA testing, has become a popular tool for genealogists. It can help individuals discover distant relatives, confirm family relationships, and uncover ancestral origins.
Genealogical Societies: Many regions and countries have genealogical societies that offer resources, support, and educational opportunities for people interested in researching their family history. These societies often maintain local archives and libraries.
Publishing Family Histories: Some genealogists compile their research into books or digital publications to share with family members and future generations. These family histories provide a comprehensive record of a family's lineage and stories.
Professional Genealogists: Some individuals hire professional genealogists to help them research their family history, especially when they encounter challenging research problems or when they lack the time or expertise to conduct extensive research themselves.
Cultural and Historical Context: Genealogical research often involves understanding the cultural and historical context of the time and place in which ancestors lived. This contextual knowledge can provide insights into their lives and motivations.
Genealogy is a rewarding and often deeply personal pursuit. It allows individuals to connect with their heritage, learn about their ancestors' experiences, and pass down their family's history to future generations.Additionally, genealogical research can reveal unexpected stories and connections that enrich our understanding of the past.

User questions & answers
Question: | can you send a chart by email |
Answer: | Theoretically you can. However you would need to save the Chart 'report', then attach it in an email just like any other media or document. There is an email feature in RM 7 in the Addresses of a Person Record (that is Addresses of your living relatives) but it would require the use of a product like Outlook with email setup on the computer to utilize it. |
Question: | Is RM7 available for Mac Mini with OSX |
Answer: | I bought the bridge for RM7 to work with the Mac OS X, but it does;t work very well. I now use it just on my husbands PC. Works great on that. |
Question: | Can I download this cd to my lap top and desk top or is it a one use deal |
Answer: | I've loaded my copy on both my desktop and my laptop. I only registered it on the desktop but use the laptop for backing up extra copies and adding information while traveling. |
Question: | Does this create a website for you to upload to an independently hosted site such as GoDaddy |
Answer: | Yes. It's something like you create a web site that would go on their site but on your own computer and upload it to your own server space instead. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do the results give countries or just continents? I would like one that gives specific countries |
Answer: | Just a general response to all the older responses to questions. All of the DNA companies are constantly changing their DNA results. The more people that have the test, that more data goes into improving the accuracy and/or improves the ability to be more specific. Therefore, just wanted to say, as time goes on, the older responses may no longer be valid. |
Question: | Do you get both maternal and paternal lines with this test |
Answer: | Not distinct, separate lines, no. But you do get those results, just mixed up. AncestryDNA tests only autosomal chromosomes; that is, non-sex chromosomes. These are the 22 chromosomes everyone has regardless of gender. That means your results will show both your parents' ancestry, even if you're female, but it'll be combined - you won't be able to tell which parent provided which country or DNA result. For maternal- and paternal-specific ancestry (mtDNA and YDNA, respectively), 23andme provides this testing. AncestryDNA stopped doing it in 2014 (see https://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2014/06/12/comments-on-y-dna-and-mtdna-tests/). I recommend doing both AncestryDNA and 23andme for a more comprehensive picture of your background. And if you're female, ask a male relative (father, brother, paternal uncle) to do 23andme so you can extrapolate your paternal YDNA and haplogroup, since females do not carry the Y sex chromosome. Again, this is not available via AncestryDNA.If you are only interested in overall, general, "big-picture" results, and aren't concerned with specifics like which part of the world your maternal/paternal line came from per se, or your haplogroups, then AncestryDNA is the way to go. |
Question: | Are these results on a par with 23andme? Are they identical or is there more info or less |
Answer: | Depends on what you’re using it for. I took Ancestry and my sister to 23andme. We were looking to confirm our relatives not our ethnicity. We had way more matches and have been able to find common ancestors with other DNA matches. 23 and me is harder to sort through the matches and I’m not sure If you can even see other people’s family trees as i haven’t figured it out in almost a year |
Question: | How many past generations does this test go back? Will it test going back a few hundred years |
Answer: | That depends on your ancestry and the number of people of similar ancestry who have tested. Biggest group is European heritage. I have 6th and 7th generation matches going back to colonial New England because there was a good degree of pedigree collapse (genetic reinforcement due to small populations intermarrying) The majority of matches will be in the 4th cousin range. However, matches are pointless unless you have a decent family tree (at least 4 generations) and respond to messages because you will not be able to make the connections otherwise. |
