14 best slime tire sealant directions
Slime tire sealant is a popular product used for repairing minor punctures in tires and preventing slow leaks. It's a handy tool for emergency tire repairs on the road. Here are the general directions for using slime tire sealant:
Materials You Will Need:
- Slime tire sealant (pre-packaged or in a bottle)
- Valve core removal tool
- Air compressor or tire inflator
Directions:
Locate the Puncture: Identify the puncture or leak in your tire. If you can't find it visually, you can listen for a hissing sound or use a soap and water solution to detect the leak.
Prepare the Tire: Position the valve stem at the 12 o'clock position (top) to ensure the sealant is distributed evenly. Use a valve core removal tool to remove the valve core from the valve stem. This step allows the sealant to flow into the tire more effectively.
Shake the Sealant: Shake the slime tire sealant bottle vigorously to ensure it's well-mixed.This helps distribute the sealant evenly inside the tire.
Install the Sealant: Attach the nozzle or hose of the sealant bottle to the valve stem, and squeeze the recommended amount of sealant into the tire. The recommended amount may vary depending on the size of your tire and the manufacturer's instructions. Typically, it's around 8 to 16 ounces (237 to 473 ml).
Reinstall the Valve Core: After adding the sealant, use the valve core removal tool to reinstall the valve core into the valve stem.
Inflate the Tire: Use an air compressor or tire inflator to reinflate the tire to the recommended pressure, as specified in your vehicle's owner's manual or on the tire sidewall. This helps distribute the sealant and reseal any punctures.
Rotate the Tire: To ensure the sealant is evenly distributed, drive the vehicle for a short distance (about a mile or two) at a slow speed. This helps the sealant coat the inside of the tire and seal any punctures.
Check and Monitor: After the tire is properly inflated and you've driven a short distance, check the tire pressure again and adjust if needed. Monitor the tire's performance, and if the sealant has effectively sealed the puncture, you should notice a reduction or elimination of the leak.
Repair or Replace: While slime tire sealant can effectively seal small punctures, it's not a permanent solution for larger or more severe tire damage. Consider visiting a professional tire service or replacing the tire if necessary.
Keep in mind that the specific instructions and recommended amounts of sealant may vary by brand and product, so it's essential to follow the directions provided on the slime tire sealant packaging. Additionally, some tire manufacturers or mechanics may recommend removing the sealant and repairing the tire properly for long-term reliability.

Previously I had to add air every use because of thorns and briars sometimes every couple hours. I can not believe I never installed Slime before this, what a timesaver. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you have to use all 3 CO2 cartridges to inflate one tire |
Answer: | Depends on how low it is. |
Question: | what is the max psi these can do on a bicycle tire? Don't care how many it takes |
Answer: | If you use two cartridges then you can get at least 90psi |
Question: | How many PSI increase can be expected from one cartridge |
Answer: | It depends on the size of your tire. For example, for a standard ATV tire, one 16 gram cartridge can fill a completely flat tire to 3 psi. But for a standard dirt bike tire, one 16 gram cartridge can fill a flat tire to about 15 psi. |
Question: | Is the microflate regulated or does it empty all the co2 into the tire |
Answer: | The CO2 inflator head in this kit is controllable/regulated. We call it Twist-to-Inflate technology. You attach the CO2 cartridge fully to pierce the cartridge, then place the inflator head on your valve stem. To inflate, simply untwist the cartridge slightly and CO2 will begin to dispense. When complete, tighten the cartridge to stop the flow of CO2. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can I use it in aluminum rims |
Answer: | From the Slime FAQ: " Slime can have an adverse effect on certain types of aluminum rims. Because alloys differ, it is difficult to predict how Slime will react with your rims specifically." |
Question: | How much do i put in a 20 in tube ..bike |
Answer: | I wouldnt put but a couple pumps in a bike tire |
Question: | How does this affect the ride of a car/suv? Does having that much material inside the tire affect the balancing, alignment or stiffness of the ride |
Answer: | There is no noticeable difference in any of your questions. However, most tire shops do not like it when you purchase new tires. |
Question: | Web page description indicates "pump" and "1 gallon jug". page image and video shows a 32 oz bottle. what is correct |
Answer: | It appears they have the wrong image loaded, based on description and price. If you use a LOT of Slime, the gallon and pump is good. If you only need a small amount, or occasionally, the smaller, 32-oz, which is just a squeeze bottle is good. If you keep it too long, it tends to oxidize and clump in the container (from experience, but which is what make it work on the tires). I have used for years on farm equipment tires, 4-wheeler tires, etc. and it works great. It is not flammable or explosive when the tire has to be changed. It will work on tubeless and usually on tube tires (unless large tear/hole). |

Question: | Are the whole things aluminum? Or just the handles and stopper |
Answer: | I've tried "Slime" on, cars, farm tractors, lawnmowers, bicycles and it works on all of them. I would use it on a motorcycle too, if I had one. Good stuff ! |
Question: | What is the rubber cement for |
Answer: | The 50107 Smart Spair Tire Repair Kit is a two-part system. The user first has to insert the Slime sealant and then separately has to air up the tire. The Slime 70005 Safety Spair is a one-step system. Simply attach the hoses and sealant + air are injected at the same time. Answer: | Happened to me also. if you have all the little parts when it fell apart, put it back together , I had a bit problems with the order of the parts because when it fell apart they tumbled on the floor without any order, but I tried various way and after a bit of trial and error, it worked again. Just check in the future from time to time that it does not unscrew again. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it safe to use the slime with tires thet have internal pressure sensors |
Answer: | Yes, I have a BMW 328xi and have had no problems with my tire pressure sensors. It also states that it is safe to use on cars with these type sensors on the box. |
Question: | I have a BMW that reads the sockets should not exceed 140 watts at 12 volts. Is it safe to use this one with these measurements via cigarette socket |
Answer: | You should be fine. They are made to work on an automotive 12v system. I don't know the watts rating of the compressor, but the max amperage draw shouldn't exceed 11A. Your cig plug should be a 15A. I have a BMW and no issues running under load. |
Question: | can i use this unit to just inflate tires with low pressure and if so does the unit indicate the psi of the tire as it is inflating |
Answer: | Yes and Yes. The unit consists of a normal 12V tire inflator with pressure gage. You can use it with or without the Slime sealant. It comes with instructions to do both |
Question: | Is it safe to store it in the trunk of my car in any weather condition? Heat of Summer, cold of winter |
Answer: | I live in Western north Texas and last summer we had temps reach 118 degrees in the shade and our car is black and had no problems with the slime or the pump. The slime container is not under pressure. No problems this winter as well. Our temp got down to around 8 degrees. Hope this answers your question. |

Safety Warning WARNING: For high speed application (over 65 mph) use only as a repair (exception: trailer tires). May cause excessive vibration when installed in front tires or all four tires. To ensure safety, have treated tire inspected by a tire professional as soon as possible after puncture occurs. Slime will not seal sidewall punctures or bead leaks and should not be used with faulty valves or damaged rims. Eye protection must be used during installation. Slime Tubeless Tire Sealant prevents and repairs flats in tubeless tires caused by punctures up to a quarter-inch. Non-flammable, non-toxic and non-aerosol, this sealant installs easily through the valve, and for bikes, between the rim and the tire bead. Slime works repeatedly -- when a puncture occurs, the escaping air forces Slime with FibroSeal technology in the puncture wound to seal the puncture. This product is virtually mess-free, cleans up with water, and lasts for up to two years.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work in inner tubes |
Answer: | You have to watch the gauge, however, be aware that it is slow and will only run for 10 to 15 min before it shuts down on overheat(normal). I have six tires on my boat trailer at 80 psi the unit is useless for me. Bought a nitrogen tank at 2000 psi. tops off my tires in no time. Wish I could sell you mine. Only used twice |
Question: | How much do you put in tire |
Answer: | My Slime 40026 2K pump came in a hard cardboard box only and not some kind of hard plastic case or box. The cardboard is fine with me as it serves its purpose in containing all the accessories. |
Question: | is this green slime the one used in riding lawn mowers |
Answer: | I got this as a cheap way to air up after off-roading adventures. It will take all four 32" tires from 18-32psi without overheating as long as I shut it off for a couple of minutes between tires. On a 90 degree day in Colorado I had it crap out on me when I had finished 3 tires and the 4th was only at 30psi. If I try and run it continuously and move between tires it will overheat after 2 tires. It's cheap, there are always trade–offs with cheap. |
