The thread and fit is exactly the same, except this filter is about 3/4 inch longer, which does not interfere with anything. The 7317 (by my guess) has ~50% more filter material than the 6607. This filter is also specified for the Nissan Titan trucks, if I recall.

Answer:	It will fit but I upgraded to the FRAM XG4967 Ultra Synthetic Spin-On Oil Filter and use Mobile1 synthetic oil. It's pricier but adds a lot more protection for the Generac especially in very cold or hot weather. I live in Michigan and the Generac cranks easily with quick start-ups in really cold temps. These machines start running @ 3600 RPM and this filter has a check valve to ensure lubrication available immediately.

Answer:	I can only say that I have used this filter and the Motorcraft Super duty 15-40 diesel motor oil in my truck since 1999. I change the oil every 6000 miles and have had zero issue with the engine. I have not used this filter with other oils.

Even the Bosch homepage explains it's only for conventional oil or SEMI-synthetic oil. The reason why you should use synthetic material filter for synthetic oil is for longer life of the filter. Cellulose filter only lasts 5,000 miles but synthetic filter lasts 10,000+ miles.
