12 best liquitex fabric paints

Liquitex fabric paints are a range of high-quality acrylic paints designed specifically for use on fabric. They are a popular choice among artists, crafters, and textile enthusiasts for creating vibrant and permanent designs on clothing, textiles, and other fabric surfaces. Here are some key points about Liquitex fabric paints:

  1. Acrylic-Based Formulation: Liquitex fabric paints are formulated using acrylic polymer emulsion, which provides excellent adhesion to fabric fibers. This ensures that the paint adheres well and remains flexible on the fabric.

  2. Permanent and Durable: Once properly applied and heat-set, Liquitex fabric paints become permanent on the fabric. This means that they won't wash out or fade easily, making them suitable for clothing and other items that will be laundered.

  3. Vibrant Colors: Liquitex offers a wide range of highly pigmented colors, allowing artists to create vivid and eye-catching designs on fabric. The colors are designed to be both intense and lightfast, ensuring longevity.

  4. Flexible and Soft Feel: When applied correctly, Liquitex fabric paints maintain the soft and flexible feel of the fabric. This means that the painted area doesn't become stiff or uncomfortable to wear.

  5. Compatibility with Other Liquitex Products: Liquitex fabric paints can be used in conjunction with other Liquitex acrylic products, including mediums and varnishes. This allows artists to explore various techniques and finishes.

  6. Application Methods: Liquitex fabric paints can be applied using various techniques, including brushwork, stenciling, stamping, and even airbrushing. This versatility allows for a wide range of creative possibilities.

  7. Heat Setting: To ensure the permanence of the paint, it's important to heat-set the fabric after painting. This is typically done by using an iron on a medium heat setting without steam. The specific heat-setting instructions may vary depending on the fabric type.

  8. Compatibility with Different Fabrics: Liquitex fabric paints can be used on a variety of fabric types, including cotton, linen, silk, and synthetic blends. It's recommended to wash and prepare the fabric before painting to ensure proper adhesion.

  9. Clean-Up and Storage: Brushes and tools can be cleaned with water while the paint is still wet. For dried paint, a mild soap or acrylic paint remover can be used. To extend the life of the paints, it's best to store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

  10. Safety Precautions: As with any art supplies, it's important to follow safety guidelines. Liquitex fabric paints are non-toxic, but it's still advisable to work in a well-ventilated area and avoid ingestion or contact with eyes.

Overall, Liquitex fabric paints are a versatile and reliable choice for artists and crafters looking to add a personal touch to fabric items. Their permanence, vibrant colors, and compatibility with different techniques make them a popular option for fabric painting projects.

User questions & answers

Question: I have createx airbrush paint for nail art. The problem is it air comes out but no paint. Ive cleaned the needle still no paint spray
Answer: The number of reasons why your air brush is not working is huge. I would try and verify that you can shoot water through the air brush, if you can, the you can fiddle with air pressure, or thin the paint, or clean the brush, or go to a larger tip size.
Question: Can I use it as fabric paint to paint tshirts
Answer: Your better off using a medium that is designed to be used on fabrics. Both Liquitex and Golden brands have mediums to be used with acrylic paint on fabric.
Question: Can this be used to thin (Vallejo) Acrylic-Polyurethane liquid primers (for miniatures
Answer: I don't know. From what I hear you can use it to thin just about any acrylic-based paint. However, not sure how the polyurethane in the primer would react. I think a good test would be to mix it up and see. Start with the primer in a mixing cup (couple of drops), then add the airbrush medium a drop at a time (mixing each time and checking consistency, clumping, etc). If you get a good mix without clumps and about the consistency of low-fat milk, you should be able to apply through an airbrush. I would recommend testing on a test plate to see how it adheres before using it on your finish piece! Good Luck.
Question: i am not using an airbrush, but i need thin non-glossy glazes. would this work? thanks
Answer: I know this is late, but I use Golden Airbrush medium to thin my paint for glazes.

Finish

Varnishes are applied over a completed piece of work to change or unify the surface sheen and protect the painted surface from the environment and ultraviolet light.

User questions & answers

Question: I recently read that cheaper tubes of paint usually contain less pigment. How's the opacity of this brand
Answer: Cheaper paints often do contain less pigment, but that generally has nothing to do with opacity! Some colors are just less opaque than others, no matter how expensive. A lot of yellows, for example, may be less opaque than white. But so are some greens, blues, etc. These are good paints and I have used them professionally for years.
Question: If I get paint on my clothes, does this paint wash out easily
Answer: You can Google a few methods to getting acrylic paint out of clothing, but I certainly wouldn't consider it easy to clean. If you do get it on your clothing, act fast! For something washable, look into tempura paint.
Question: are these water soluable
Answer: Yes any acrylic paint is water soluble also you can water down the paint as well if you want to spread it out
Question: What are the exact names of the colors included in this set
Answer: they are basic primary colors! white, red, yellow, blue, green and black! read the info/details please.........sigh

Highest quality pigments

All Liquitex paints use the highest quality pigments and go through the same rigorous manufacturing process. The only difference is that with Basics we use a lower concentration of pigment than our professional paints. For Basics, fine art pigments are selected and milled using the latest basket bead-mill technology, in the same way as Soft and Heavy Body Acrylics. Pigments are ground with tiny reinforced ceramic beads to give fine dispersion, great color development, strength and brightness, before being added to the acrylic emulsion.

Economical

Push your budget harder with Basics. Use on their own or combine together with professional materials – if they’re made by Liquitex, they’re all intermixable. Perfect for everyday use, for sketching out preliminary ideas, for underpainting before laying down your final paint application and for covering large areas.

Archival quality

Hanging on a client’s wall. In a gallery. It needs to stay as you intended. As with all Liquitex paints, the pigments have passed extensive tests for lightfastness. Your work will have the greatest archival permanence possible, withstanding color shifting or fading to stay vibrant and true.

Sticks to most surfaces

Use Basics on canvas, paper & board, wood & masonry, metal, styrofoam, stone & ceramics, and textiles.

Medium viscosity

Basics paints come in a single consistency across all colors - a medium viscosity that is highly versatile and easy to work with.

Range of opacities

Each color is dictated by its natural pigment character. If you look at the packaging labels, you will see that some are opaque, others are semi-opaque and others are transparent.

User questions & answers

Question: can I use it for T-shirt? and, is it washable
Answer: I wouldn't recommend it for a t-shirt. This type of paint is more for canvas painting. I would suggest using a paint that is specifically for fabric for the best results. It is and isn't washable, it depends on how quickly you get at it.
Question: Can these paints be used for painting plastic models
Answer: These paints will adhere to the surface of a plastic model, however they are not a self-leveling paint, and will tend to leave brush marks on the surface. These also will not be as durable on plastic as they would be on absorbent surfaces like canvas, paper, or other fabrics. If you tried, you could scratch through the finish. These paints can be clear-coated with sprays such as those made by Krylon to make for a glossy finish, but otherwise these will dry with a satin sheen.
Question: are the tubes 250 ml each (8.5oz) or a total of 250 ml combined
Answer: It should say in the text that each tube only contains 22 ml. When you look at the picture, it shows that the tubes contain 250 ml each - they don't!Where I come from, we call that faulthy marketing information!
Question: what colors are in the kits
Answer: This item was a gift but I did look at it before I gave it to her. There were the basic colors, red, green blue etc. but there were many other colors that are called for in many of the pictures alot of people ues. I felt it was a good overall color selection. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. Johnette

Answer: Yup!
Question: Which series is this comparable to
Answer: The paint is great but for my taste and classical education , These are not the best mixing colors..I will use them but I'm disappointed in the colors. Next time I will pick true classic colors individually.
Question: On the picture for this set, it says "professional" acrylic. Is that what the tubes will say in the set I am considering ordering? Thanks

Answer: Liquitex paints are labeled with light-fastness, and "Transparent, Opaque, or translucent." It varies with the particular pigment or mix.

User questions & answers

Question: The vivid lime green, what Pantone color is this most related to
Answer: Hi Daniel, This is weird as I didn't buy 'Vivid Lime Green" Liquitex from Amazon. However, I do have a Pantone color guide in front of me (an even stranger "coincidence") and the closest match is Pantone #830c. BTW, don't know what your use is, mine is for solid art backgrounds, but I stopped using Liquitex as the nozzles clogged before I could get 1/4-1/2 way thru the can. After cleaning them thoroughly, shaking the can till my arms ached & spraying upside down to clear & buying new nozzles they STILL clogged. So frustrated that I contacted HQ for answers. They said it was their new formulathat lowered the VOC, and offered new nozzles. Didn't follow thru as I'd already done that. I bought some 50 odd cans at a Michael's deep discount closeout, thinking I was getting a 'deal', but what a pain! Now using Montana Gold, but you better have very good ventilation & plan on letting them cure for 2-3 days...in said ventilated space! Nearly asphyxiated myself! Note: I am not a graffiti artist. Hope this helps! SSF
Question: Use on foam
Answer: I bought this to use on styrofoam and it worked perfectly. I applied 2 coats, making sure to use short, sweeping bursts and don’t get too close to the styrofoam. The color was vibrant!
Question: Does this look good on fiber glass
Answer: Yes but it may not last well with moisture
Question: Looking to do some diy halloween decorations this year. does this spray paint show up well on metal
Answer: Yes, it should show up brilliantly on metal.

Low odor

We’ve made our spray paint a lot more pleasant and safe to use when working both in- and outside. Unlike solvent-heavy sprays, this solvent-light formula gives far less fumes and is non-flammable. And it won’t irritate your skin or eyes as much as regular spray paints can. So whether it’s a canvas, mixed media or big wall piece, you can breathe easily. Although our spray paints are non-toxic, we would still advise wearing a simple face mask.

Fine Art Pigments

You can rely on the highest quality color-intense artist pigments when you use Spray Paint. Our pigments are processed using the latest basket bead-mill technology, where tiny reinforced ceramic beads give fine dispersion, great color development, strength and brightness. You get true color purity and archival stability in a spray.

Water-soluble

Using water-based technology, you can take advantage of a slightly longer drying time than you have with regular sprays. Try using the extra time to work the paint in different ways. You can also spray color into the cap and apply with a brush, or manipulate and blend your color layers, apply wet in wet and get new effects. And like all Liquitex paints, you can you can easily wash your hands and tools with soap and water when it’s still wet. Just don’t let it dry first, or it’ll become permanent.

Surface versatile

Low solvents means it’s safe for more substrates and techniques. So you can use Spray Paint where and how you like, on a wider range of materials, including styrofoam. Use it to paint, to create special effects, to intermix with other paints and media. To lay down an even coat of color over vast areas and uneven surfaces. Each 12oz can covers 21sqft/2sqm and the spray nozzle ensures color gets into every nook.

Permanent when dry

Water-soluble when wet, yet permanent and water-resistant when dry. You get the best of both worlds. Once sprayed, all the water in the paint evaporates quickly in the atmosphere to leave a flexible acrylic film of color behind. This is permanent and doesn’t move - which means you can over-paint without bleeding and achieve multi-layered surface effects. No smudging.

Opacity

Sheer or solid color, or something in between? Each pigment has its own unique character and this dictates its opacity. Our professional spray paint is formulated to let the pigment express itself fully, so you’ve got a choice of opaque, semiopaque and transparent colors to help you achieve a range of effects. Check the opacity symbol on the can.

Archival quality

On a client’s wall. In a gallery. Your work needs to stay as you intended. As with all Liquitex products, the pigments in Spray Paint have passed extensive tests for lightfastness. This means your work will have the greatest archival permanence possible – at least 50 years+ in gallery conditions – with no color shifting or fading, to stay vibrant and true.

User questions & answers

Question: How long can this product stay mixed with the paint? Can I mix this with my acrylic paint and let sit overnight to use the next day
Answer: It’s probably safe to just treat it like you’d treat straight acrylic paint. It might be okay if you put it into a sealed container. I wouldn’t let it just sit out in the open overnight though.
Question: My wife got this gallon size for the first time. Can't figure out how to open the container. I'm not there right now. Can anyone tell us how
Answer: Check out "How to Open Liquitex Pouring Medium" on YouTube. I posted this after being confounded by the gallon container myself.
Question: Hello! Does anyone have any recipes for making the pours that are in the pictures? I'm a beginner and still learning
Answer: We can recommend the you tube channel "Woodypoo" and then select Annemarie Ridderhof for tips on paint pouring, including use of pouring medium. Pouring medium is an excellent final coat if that's what you are looking for. Floetrol is cheaper for mixing with colored paints when pouring.
Question: How do you use it
Answer: I mix it in with my acrylic paint, pour the mix onto a canvas, move canvas around to cover the whole thing (gets messy and a lot will drip off!) and then let it dry overnight. by the next morning you'll find the pour medium will react to the acrylic paint and do some really cool things. What I went to sleep seeing isn't the same thing I see in the morning, which is pretty cool. There may be other ways to use it, but this is the way I learned.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this product suitable for rock painting
Answer: Yes it is, but if rocks are kept outside after awhile the acrylic will wash off somewhat
Question: Is this product is also used for the nails? ...for nail art
Answer: I used to do elaborate decorative painting on my fingernails with acrylic paint. It works great. You can do some really cool things with it that you can't do with nail polish. Just cover with a couple coats of clear nail polish (Crystal Alford).
Question: Will this Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paint Titanium White work well on the ceramic Christmas trees that Amazon sells
Answer: Yes. I generally paint paint on canvas but have painted ceramic with it too.
Question: How many square feet of wood will this paint
Answer: depends if you prime the wood with a latex based paint first. i paint on wood. wood absorbs a lot of water and swells so uses a lot of pain... the solution is to prime the wood with some latex primer you can get at your hardware store. a thin layer keeps the texture of the wood while sealing the wood so you can pain with acrylics. i like to keep the wood texture but prime it so that i can paint as if it were a non pourous surface. that's what i'd advise... prime with latex paint, then paint with acrylic thinning to no more than 30% water. which is what acrylic is meant to work as...

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a Mettalic acrylic paint additive
Answer: Not that I know of... but Liquitex makes an iridescent additive. A little brightens the color, a lot creates a shimmery shine, but the more you add the runnier it gets.
Question: where are the color options
Answer: Silver
Question: Can you mix this with liquid latex to paint a prop made of brushed latex
Answer: I've never done it, but I googled it and as long as the liquid latex is water based it should be fine. It also said the wet shade of your mixed color will dry to a darker shade.
Question: What is the approximate dry time? (Painting with a pallet knife
Answer: there are so many variables to the dry time of thick paint applications. how thick it's applied? did you add any mediums? what's the temp and humidity?..... but, in general, i'd give it a day before painting over a thick application and i'd wait a week before varnishing.
