User questions & answers
Question: | Does the tray move independently from the vertical support? I am hoping for the height to stay the same when I move the tray |
Answer: | Yes, the tray, upon which a canvas would rest, moves independently from the vertical support, which holds the top bracket. They each clamp separately to the frame of the easel. So you can leave the overall height fixed and adjust the lower tray up or down to accommodate canvas size. |
Question: | The description claims that the base is laminated. Does it mean the wood isn't solid? What is laminated |
Answer: | The Dulce Floor Easel is a professional-grade solid wood easel with a beautiful stained-finish. |
Question: | how easily can this be broken down for storage, does it fold up on the bottom? If so, Apox how much space does it take up in storage, fit under a bed |
Answer: | This easel can be broken down to lay flat easily. The two black knurled plastic knobs on either side can be loosened which allows the whole structure to fold down without needing to remove or dissemble anything. The smallest dimensions when down are 23"w x 56"l x 6.5"h. Hope this helps! |
Question: | What is the max weight this can handle |
Answer: | I am not sure about the weight, but I have been working with 24 by 36 canvases, the easel handled very well. I just bought a few 36 by 48, but I have not tried yet. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this easel be sturdy enough to hold a tv |
Answer: | The easel itself is made out of hardwood so yes it would support a TV. However what would not is the mechanism used to lock the tray in place from moving up-and-down. Also, wood is susceptible to weather changes and humility so I wouldn't trust its ability to hold up something Heavy. |
Question: | Can this Easel be locked into a horizontal position |
Answer: | Parallel to the ground with a canvas to work on? If this is what you're talking about then no it will not. If you're talking about collapsing flat to slide underneath a bed then yes it will do that. I will say that I own two of these easels and by far best easel I've ever used. One of which I put through serious Stuff. It fell off my loading dock from above waist height twice unscathed. Best does make a studio easel that will articulate and lay flat for you to work on a piece. I actually have one that I'm trying to sell! |
Question: | What kind of wood |
Answer: | Oak or some other kind of hard wood. Whatever it is it's very durable. I own five Best easels. Also if anything goes wrong with it. Easy to have them replace it . |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this tilt at all |
Answer: | It does tilt back to a pretty far angle and up I think almost vertical. The easel is awesome. I got it for my wife for Christmas in 2013 so we have had it for a year now and it has been a really nice thing for her to use. She can raise the height very easily which is the adjustment she uses the most. It is quite tall, and we did have to cut a piece off the top to make it work correctly in the room where she paints but after that it has been perfect. I saw much smaller, less nice ones in an art store recently for the same price and was very glad I got this one. |
Question: | is it very sturdy |
Answer: | Yes it's extremely sturdy. I've put up to 15 lbs on mine and it holds up great. I know it could hold much much much more than that. |
Question: | How long is the ratchet system? I want to know how high the shelf can move |
Answer: | About 36 inches |
Question: | Does this also adjust well for smaller canvases and panels. For example finishing plein air paintings in studio |
Answer: | Yes. The base rail and upper bracket rail adjust independently of each other, so you can set your working height for whatever you need it to be and lower the upper bracket to fit your medium. The one limitation is that the upper bracket can only be lowered to just above 4 feet off the floor. So if you have a really small panel or canvas, you will need to raise the lower rail up to hold it. Still not a bad height if you are working seated. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How stable is the easel if I'm using it at a 45 degree angle with a (heavy-ish) cradled scratchboard? will it hold the angle without slipping |
Answer: | The easel is very sturdy. I tend to use mine at a very slight angle (80 degrees) with very heavy cradled panels. The angle isn't exactly the same but I haven't had any issues with the hardware slipping as long as I tighten it properly. Over time the hardware over the whole easel does tend to loosen and you have to go back and tighten the whole thing up but I love this easel! Best studio purchase I ever made. |
Question: | Can the wheels be locked to keep it in one place |
Answer: | Yes and no. The wheels themselves do not lock. But by each wheel is a long wingnutted bolt with a rubber tip. You can adjust these four bolts so that they press into the floor and take the wheels out of play. Not as convenient as locking wheels but does the job. |
Question: | what are the dimensions of this product |
Answer: | It would be easier if you just viewed the PDF at: http://www.mabef.it/download/pdf/M-18.pdfMabef has one of these for each of their easels and they are quite detailed. If you still have questions let me know. |
Question: | What's the difference between the Mbm18D and the M |
Answer: | I purchased the 18D because it is able be moved into any position, and I frequently work flat. It is easy to move from upright to any angle. However, "caveat emptor!" Had my brother, a true mechanical engineer, not been visiting, the hundreds of parts and pieces would still be in its box. The directions were terrible. For me it was an excellent choice at an affordable price, because the M18 didn't appear to move-or at least not enough. Hope this helps. |

Question: | How high does the easel extend exactly and is it easy for someone who is 5'2" to stand and paint |
Answer: | I happen to be 5' 2" as well. The easel adjusts both upward and downward so it's easy to deal with a large canvass by lowering it to the right height to paint areas at the top of a large canvas. The easel will hold a 60-inch tall canvas, but that would put the top of canvas at about 85 inches above the ground. This means I would have to use a stool or chair to reach the very top parts of the canvas when the canvas is positioned in an upright position.. However, I have been using the easel for about half a year and have found it easy to adjust as necessary. In addition, the easel swivels so the canvass can be flat which gives additional access to different areas of the canvas. With a 60 inch canvas, this is how I would reach the top areas of the canvas if I didn't want to use a stool or chair. I believe you would have a simiilar problem with any other easel unless the bottom of the easel where the canvas rests can be lowered all the way to the floor. With this easel, that bottom rest is 25 inches above the ground. By the way, I really like this easel. It is well made and has become my favorite easel. |
Question: | How do you get this easle to fold to chair height horizontally. When i fold mine horizontally its standing height |
Answer: | Please, I recommend you go to YouTube and type in "working your Lobo Easel". Good Luck |
Question: | looked for a youtube video not to be found. Is there anyone you can tell me how to fold this easel horizontally to chair height? I am disabled |
Answer: | There are two side knobs that adjust for tilt angle. There is a third knob on the back that is in a grooved channel. If you loosen all three knobs and pull the easel gently back it will slide down the channel and become fully horizontal. This is probably not going to work for you, because it is too high for a chair when set horizontally. Unfortunately the bottom shelf and other adjustments don't allow it to go any lower. The folks at Jack Richardson Company provide excellent customer service through their website or by phone and may be able to suggest a custom fix. |
Question: | Can this easel be used for work as small as 9x |
