It’s way too loud because you are literally receiving the full and complete signal, without any volume control at all. You’d want to either plug your headphones into whatever device the HDMI cable plugs into (TV, monitor) or plug some other device into the 3.5mm jack (some kind of audio controller or speaker or sound bar or something) and plug your headphones into that device.

Question:	Is there a way to make the volume from the headphone jack lower? its way too loud
Answer:	I bought this to connect a new 55" TV to the Wii, the new TV's have no RCA inputs so the standard Wii cables don't work. This worked great and saved Thanksgiving, just plug the converter into the Wii then run the HDMI cable to the TV. Could not have been easier!

Question:	Does the hdmi cord take care of the audio through the tv speakers without an additional audio cable
Answer:	My unit worked perfectly. I simply plugged it into the Wii component and the unit now works perfectly again. Make certain that the item you purchased is the correct replacement for the product you have. Mine was for the Nintendo Wii, which now works great again.
Question:	So i got the hdmi plugged in, it's on the right input, but the tv screen is telling me "not support!" so idk wtf
Answer:	Old question, but for future clarification to anyone else, I believe the asker was connecting the Wii to an AV receiver that is then connected to the projector, as is typical of home theaters. According to the specs the audio transmits from the Wii through both the HDMI and the 3.5mm jack. So I would assume you can simply plug the Wii in to the AV receiver like any other HDMI source and the AV receiver will play the sound through the connected speakers. Worst case, most AV receivers allow you to manually select the audio source for a particular input so you can buy a 3.5mm to stereo RCA and select the analog audio input as the audio source for your Wii HDMI input.
